geodon for mood swings

I still have problems with mood swings. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions about how to handle mood swings? Can they be tamed?

It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.

I've been on Geodon for 18 months and Remeron for 6 months. They stabalized my anxiety, but have bad motivation and gave me a flat personality. I successfully weaned off Remeron without any problems. I started to taper Geodon from 60mg to 40mg and got really bad anxiety. Is this my anxiety returning or is this withdrawal? I've had the anxiety for about 5 days now.

Right now with how inconsistent I am taking medication, no matter how hard I try I just seem to have mood swings that could probably be avoided.

My son currently takes vyvanse for his adhd wich seems to be helping him alot in school,but he has been taking geodon and clonidine for about 6 weeks or so and he has become alot more aggressive once he vyvanse weres off he is totally out of control phyc says leave him on it since he gets good sleep but everything i a constant fight and he tears everything up wich he did prior to the meds but he just seems worse could he be taking the wrong mix of medicines or does it just take more time worried

hi...i've since taken my self off of geodon. as a refresher i was taking 120mg and dropped down to 60 mg for a week. i've read lots of exteme withdrawal symptoms but in the 3 days i've been off i'm not experiencing anything. i'm thinking it's going to take about 2 weeks for my brain to adjust without any geodon and another 2 weeks to hopefully see if my sleep returns. would that be a good time frame to expect a change?

I agree completely with ILADCOCATE. I have (and currently) been off and on Geodon for a long time. It is a life saver for me. But I also take other medications as well, including several mood stablizers. Lamictal is great, Lithium. Call the doc and try to demand a sooner appointment. If it takes that long to see the doc, maybe there is someone else out there. My pdoc allows me to call him anytime if something suddenly comes up.

It makes sense to discuss any life issues with your therapist but feelings of this kind can occur regardless of what happened when mood swings occur and all of this should be treatable.

Geodon is an antipsychotic that is also used as a mood stabilizer. I'm not aware of its use for anxiety but you'd have to ask your psychiatrist more about that. It does seem that things need to be adjusted and/or changed but you'd have to speak to your psychiatrist to find out if the anxiety is just something untreated or a minor side effect of the Geodon and if it will go away in time. Think about when the anxiety started to get worse and speak to them about all this.

I don't have Bipolar 1 but Geodon helps my depression for sure along with of course my psychosis since it's an atypical antipsychotic. It's FDA approved to treat Bipolar mania and my therapist told me even though it's not FDA approved to treat depression it still has a mood stabilizing effect. It might not be working right for you as medications work differently for everyone.

That would probably be an agitated mixed state. A mixed state has aspects of both mania and depression. I've experienced agitated mixed states before my current recovery and certainly when I was off a mood stabilizer (except because I have schizoaffective disorder mine had aspects of psychosis). That is relatively common and some mood stabilizers treat mixed states better than others. Speak to your psychiatrist about that.

I just tapered down from Geodon and I'm completely off of it now. I was feeling panic, anxiety, depression, overall feelings of doom. My pdoc told me that he thought I was having bad side effects from the Geodon, so now I am off of it. Right now, I am taking Lamictal 400mg per day (for bipolar 1). I still feel confused, sedated, and overall just bad. I feel like I have the flu almost. This has gone on for months and I can't seem to shake it.

Anyone else having mood swings? I am 30 weeks & 2 days and for the past week I have been so moody! Everything has irritated me and when I do get mad I stay mad for a little bit and I hate it.. I try to hold it in but then I explode and feel bad for yelling at husband. I feel like a huge cow, can't sleep, & it's hard to move around. I can't stand my dog either. She annoys the crap out of me..lol. I'm just ready for this pregnancy to be over lol.

I had all the typical symptoms of menopause even though mine was surgical menopause. My ongoing problem is severe mood swings. About 5 years ago I found myself actually hysterical and didn't know what to do. I was to the point where I almost admitted myself to an Emergency Room for some kind of help. I asked my pulmonary doctor for something and he gave me something (I don't remember what) with the stipulation I see someone. I did.

deep breaths, reminding myself of the biological cause for the anger(hormones + bipolar disorder for me) and listening to music helps me a bunch.

m 20 weeks and my mood swings are crazy, I cry, get mad, happy, ect. All for no reason sometimes. Lol.

i am exactly the same lol , people are just lucky am pregnant so i know when to keep my cool , but my moods are juat changing too much lol

It was like that for me, for some reason I was Really really mood around 5 weeks, I'm 11 weeks out But it's not as bad anymore, so I think that's normal

Last couple of days, Ive been having mood swings, I want to cry, eat, I get frusterated and I've been getting headaches, for no reason. I'm not depressed or anything, I'm happy.. I've been moody too. For me I think it's the lack of sleep and the being uncomfortable all the time that sets it off. I understand the looking for a new job thing. I actually have an interview later today. Needless to say, I've been stressed out and that adds to the pressure. I think that we, as women, take on waaaaay too much. It was never meant to be this way. Can you (as IT) work from home? That might be a good option for you.

Is anyone else dealing with having mood swings and / or being grumpy??!? I find myself these days extremely sensitive & irritable!! I don't seem to have the patience I had before ... and at times feel as though I am crying for no reason.. Anyone else experiencing this?
