geodon

Avatar m tn The childrens hospital ER doctor could not admit her because of how violent she was and the mobile psychiatric crisis team could not place her because 4 years old is the minimum age limit for short term psychiatric hospitalization so she was sedated using Geodon (bipolar/schizophrenic medication) and Ativan (benzodiazipene). She was sent home with a prescription for Geodon at 10mgs (20mg capsule with administration of half of the contents) twice daily.
735919 tn?1236444549 thank you for the info on Lamictal, but does anyone take Geodon? I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better, but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
Avatar f tn I didn't gain weight from Geodon but I sure did from Abilify.
1346724 tn?1282322904 It depends on the severity of his autism. There is no cure for autism but when therapy is started at an early age, there can be great progress.
Avatar m tn That actually appears to be one side effect of Geodon but given that all (current) antipsychotics have anti-cholinergic side effects that could happen with any antipsychotic and given that people react differently to each one perhaps it was the medication you were transferred to rather than the Geodon helping it as Geodon is less likely to cause anti-cholinergic effects than some other antipsychotics.
Avatar f tn My main issue was the binge eating at night when i was on geodon and seroquel. Ive been on geodon for 10 years and eventually was On such a low dose 40 mg that I just quit cold turkey. I did up my seroquel to 400 mg to eliminate the withdrawls. (im quite the pharmacist) I have actually been loosing weight rapidly. So glad I found the right cocktail! i'm 29 its about damn time!!
Avatar m tn but i keep getting a notice that all the questions that can be asked for the day have been used, that no more questions addressed to this doctor can be asked for that particular day. what do i do? i need to ask him about medication-related chills or sensations of cold that i want to cease.
Avatar n tn Geodon works great for some people and horribly for others, like any psych med on the planet. It is less likely to make you gain weight compared to others in the same class, and may be less sedating, but you'll really have no idea how it will work for you until you try it. I think it's also the least likely to cause metabolic problems out of the atypical antipsychotics, but any of them can potentially do that.
Avatar m tn hi...i've since taken my self off of geodon. as a refresher i was taking 120mg and dropped down to 60 mg for a week. i've read lots of exteme withdrawal symptoms but in the 3 days i've been off i'm not experiencing anything. i'm thinking it's going to take about 2 weeks for my brain to adjust without any geodon and another 2 weeks to hopefully see if my sleep returns. would that be a good time frame to expect a change?
Avatar f tn I have been on a combo of lithium and geodon now for the good part of ten years, and a high dose of neurontin was added a while back to treat mania, anxiety and fibromyalgia. I just dealt with a severe case of cycling for almost ten months, and this good set of meds could not effectively end my acute mania. I ended up getting the Abilify shot, followed by a few days of a high dose of Seroquel, then I resumed on the above mentioned cocktail of lithium 900 mg, geodon 240 mg, neurotin 1600 mg.
Avatar f tn The ONLY time I feel stable is about 45 minutes to an hour after I take the Lamictal at night. When I get up in the morning, I am confused, tired (exhausted), paranoid, racing thoughts, severe anxiety, naseous (I have lost over 50 pounds in six months (a lot because I can't eat during the day). The loss of appetite is about the same time that I took Geodon. I'm now off of Geodon. The symptoms haven't improved. I really haven't felt well for about a year.
Avatar m tn I'm on Geodon 80mg. with Clonazapam 1mg. and Trzadon 50 mg./ for Bipolar Disorder and have been for many years. The only complaint I have is really a BIG ONE to me. Weight Gain like the past three months 30 lbs. But The worst was the Generic Zyprexia 80mg. I had to stop taking it beacuse ai felt like a tic ready to pop! Even my bra sizes kept getting bigger and bigger thats how much weight I gained, After I stopped taking it' The Dr. put me back on the name brand GEODON!
Avatar m tn Hi (sorry in advance for the long post), I am a twenty year old male in Las Vegas and have been struggling with mental health problems for my whole life, but only realizing my thoughts were abnormal for the past 2 ½ years. I was first diagnosed as a child with anxiety but we thought nothing of it.
Avatar n tn I took Geodon and lost a bit of weight on it. It didn't work as good as Abilify does for me but it's a great option for avoiding weight gain. It's supposed to be the best of all the mood stabelizers for that.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
497950 tn?1255863927 I am about to ask my dr for Geodon because it is cheaper for me with my insurance. Can anyone share their experience with Geodon?
Avatar f tn bless you honest i mean how good are you to speak about it ,i cant help you really with the meds, just wanted you too know that i think you are amazing to still be able to talk to us after all that and let you know we are here to try and help.
Avatar m tn If one looks at the history of treatment of young children with autism, one finds a long list of treatments that have been espoused to be the next cure for autism. Many of these treatments have been embraced with no scientific evidence to back them up.
Avatar f tn The genetic testing was to possibly find out why he has Autism and to provide data for research purposes. His father and I have also given blood for these tests but have not been given our results. I find the whole thing very interesting. I do believe that Autism is a genetic disorder. If blood tests could be refined for the purpose of diagnosis, it would be quite helpful. I've read that some studies have linked this specific deletion with autism.
Avatar m tn //bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/geodon/geodon-side-effects.html From Wikipedia in relation to your question about the heart problems associated with it: "It also slightly increases the QTc interval in some patients and increases the risk of a potentially lethal type of heart arrythmia known as torsades de pointes. Ziprasidone should be used cautiously in patients taking other medications likely to interact with ziprasidone or increase the QTc interval.
2010625 tn?1329372056 Last I read Geodon can send a patient into mania if they have the potential for that, even though it can be used to treat mania. The side effects should subside after a few weeks.
Avatar f tn I take geodon and have for about a year. I started taking 160mg a day. If I remember right, I had problems then with drowsiness. Now I've been tapered down to 60mg a day. I didn't notice any withdrawal symptoms going down but everyone is different. I've always taken herbal liver support and my liver enzymes have always been spot on. One thing I have definitely noticed while taking geodon is cold shivers and goose bumps. Seriously it's weird.
Avatar n tn There are many alternatives available that do not cause these side effects and remember that everyone is different, so side effects are often different for each person. So another medication may not be as difficult for you and sometimes initial side effects fade after taking the medication for awhile. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn So, My daughter has bipolar, we've tried a few medications. Abilify caused massive wieght gain - so we've switched to Geodon. She's been taking the Geodon for over a yr now and we've had this problem that I can't seem to change with anyother variable.... thus I'm asking if anyone else has this issue with Geodon.
Avatar m tn I was on Geodon for 2 wks about 1.5 months ago. During that time I was on the 40 MG for about 10 days and 80 MG for about 4 days. I had a slew of very bad side effects. However, I was forced to stop taking Geodon when I was rushed to the ER with a heart rate of 160 BPM. I was forced to stop Geodon cold turkey because of this and went on a Beta Blocker. Plus, I had bloodwork, CT scan of heart, numerous EKGs...all normal. However, long after stopping Geodon, I still am having heart issues.
