Geodon for anxiety

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon for anxiety

geodon

Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
142722 tn?1281533616 I take 80mg Geodon. It does not cause anxiety for me and does not help my anxiety unless i'm in an up swing to mania. Then it calms that down. Give it some time. If you are that anxious and lost that much weight, I would call your pdoc and see if he can help you out. Sometimes medications can cause a side effect in one person and not someone else. I don't have any problems at all with the medication.
Avatar m tn I was on Geodon for 2 wks about 1.5 months ago. During that time I was on the 40 MG for about 10 days and 80 MG for about 4 days. I had a slew of very bad side effects. However, I was forced to stop taking Geodon when I was rushed to the ER with a heart rate of 160 BPM. I was forced to stop Geodon cold turkey because of this and went on a Beta Blocker. Plus, I had bloodwork, CT scan of heart, numerous EKGs...all normal. However, long after stopping Geodon, I still am having heart issues.
Avatar m tn I've been on Geodon for 18 months and Remeron for 6 months. They stabalized my anxiety, but have bad motivation and gave me a flat personality. I successfully weaned off Remeron without any problems. I started to taper Geodon from 60mg to 40mg and got really bad anxiety. Is this my anxiety returning or is this withdrawal? I've had the anxiety for about 5 days now.
Avatar f tn I just tapered down from Geodon and I'm completely off of it now. I was feeling panic, anxiety, depression, overall feelings of doom. My pdoc told me that he thought I was having bad side effects from the Geodon, so now I am off of it. Right now, I am taking Lamictal 400mg per day (for bipolar 1). I still feel confused, sedated, and overall just bad. I feel like I have the flu almost. This has gone on for months and I can't seem to shake it.
Avatar f tn I had so much more energy, I felt like I was coming out of a long period of being a zombie. Unfortunately I had to stop Geodon because it started causing anxiety. So went back to Seroquel XR last year and have gained 20 lbs and back as a zombie. Now I'm starting Latuda, which apparently does not make one gain weight. I don't know whether it will make me feel anxious like Geodon did. Any comments will be appreciated.
596143 tn?1226648054 t take another dose and had my doc put me back onto the seroquel. Geodon is a miracle for some, but a nightmare for others.... some say the side effects lessen, but after two weeks of not knowing if i was coming or going, i gave it up... just became too scared about the effects i as having..... i was off the geodon for two full days before i saw my pdoc and the withdrawal from it was pretty intense... flu like symptoms, hot/cold chills, shaky, extreme anxiety... it was truly a nightmare.....
Avatar f tn bless you honest i mean how good are you to speak about it ,i cant help you really with the meds, just wanted you too know that i think you are amazing to still be able to talk to us after all that and let you know we are here to try and help.
2010625 tn?1329372056 Last I read Geodon can send a patient into mania if they have the potential for that, even though it can be used to treat mania. The side effects should subside after a few weeks.
Avatar m tn hi...i've since taken my self off of geodon. as a refresher i was taking 120mg and dropped down to 60 mg for a week. i've read lots of exteme withdrawal symptoms but in the 3 days i've been off i'm not experiencing anything. i'm thinking it's going to take about 2 weeks for my brain to adjust without any geodon and another 2 weeks to hopefully see if my sleep returns. would that be a good time frame to expect a change?
Avatar f tn I was also recently put on geodon. My side effect is also anxiety and I feel like I cannot catch my breath. Like scary .... I am so short of breath like I cannot get enough air in. Do you have this side effect?? I am also on Clonidine for anxiety and high blood pressure. Maybe it is the combination of the two? I am so confused. The medicine is supposed to help anxiety not cause it!!
Avatar n tn ive been on geodon... about a lil over a year and in the residental im in they wont give me a direct connection about stopping meds.. im also on cogentin with geodon and zoloft. so i brought it upon myself to cut cold turkey.. i have been off since sat... its now tues. ivebeen experiencing dizziness and other feelings.. what does stopping geodon cold turkey do to you?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Geodon 40 mg x1@night for anxiety related to PTSD 2 weeks ago & have untreated hypertension that has been running extremely high the past 2 days & nights. What are the chances that Geodon's the cause?
Avatar n tn I've heard that the withdrawal symptoms for Geodon are pretty harsh. Someone I know in another online support group goes down 20mgs a week at the doctor's orders.
685321 tn?1230951152 so i have been diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression. i only get depressed when i am severly anxious. i constantly worry and dwell over one thought. i usually dwell until i get an answer! i have recently developed floaters, but have been told that is because of anxiety, they're annoying as heck! anyways i recently went into the hospital (state hospital) and lied about being suicidal because i thought i was losing my mind!!
Avatar f tn ive been on Geodon for about 2 months now. I loved it at first, but now the Anxiety attacks and dizziness make it not worth taking.
Avatar m tn for me geodon was awful, i got really depressed on it. I know it depends on a person. so you can try it and see how it affects you.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder since '95, but through a lot of research and getting completely sober I really feel that I actually have Borderline Personality Disorder with Severe Depression and Anxiety. I just got prescribed Lamictal because I've tried everything over the years and nothing works for long. I'm still on Topomax, Geodon, Prozac and Desyrel.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know a way to decrease the anxiety when tapering off Geodon? I'm already taking Klonopin, and Benedryl doesn't help. I've been on 20mg with breakfast and 40mg with dinner for six months now. Doctor has no further suggestions. Please reply if you know how to control the rebound anxiety!
547014 tn?1214861617 the ssri's are not really the best for anxiety and panic. Ask your doctor about medications like klonopin or xanax. You should also try psychotherapy.
Avatar f tn My main issue was the binge eating at night when i was on geodon and seroquel. Ive been on geodon for 10 years and eventually was On such a low dose 40 mg that I just quit cold turkey. I did up my seroquel to 400 mg to eliminate the withdrawls. (im quite the pharmacist) I have actually been loosing weight rapidly. So glad I found the right cocktail! i'm 29 its about damn time!!
Avatar f tn he was briefly put on meds for a few months the 1st time and this last time he was put on Geodon. Im confused, the psychiatrist that put him on the meds org said that he would probably need to take them for a year or 2...He went back to work and had to have a physical and that doctor said that people usually dont stay on geodon to long...but his after discharge psychiatrist made it sound like he was going to be on geodon forever..he has never had depression either..
663901 tn?1232649671 I'm not sure if I'm diagonosed correctly with bi-polar disorder. Between March and now I've tried several different medications. One of my main issues is sleeping and I was prescribed Seroquel. I took 200mg for several months and finally told the pdoc that I wasn't happy with it because of the weight gain and skin (terrible breakouts) issues. He switched me on October 14th to Geodon. I took 40mg a day for two days and then was bumped up to 80mg.
311051 tn?1193416206 I have had anxiety for over a year now. Lately I started geodon and take 3mg of klonopin a day. I also take warfarin for a blood clot I had in my lung. The past week or so my eyes have been dilated and it is scaring me. The Doc's say there is nothing wrong, but they haven't done any tests. Has anyone had this with anxiety or panic disorder or from meds. Please let me know. Thanks so much!!!!!
Avatar n tn I went a few months without any medication, before receiving a prescription for Geodon. GEODON IS A TERRIBLE DRUG. I took 20 mg a day for four days, and during those four days (and for several days after) I experienced lightheadedness/feeling faint, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, akathesia, irregular/rapid heart beat, racing thoughts, EXTREME anxiety, insomnia, and flu like symtoms. All of these were so debilitating, it was difficult for me to even get up and walk around.
719785 tn?1232901518 I found Lamictal to be the most tolerable. And Geodon is activating so it can occasionally cause anxiety. There are other antipsychotics as well. Speak to his psychiatrist about all this.
Avatar f tn I am considering (yes, I know, I have to speak with my doctor but he doesn't seem concerned) tapering off of Geodon. I seem to feel dizzy, confused, sedated, have blurred vision, have anxiety attacks, just overall crummy. I think it's the Geodon that I went on a few months ago after Abilify didn't work so well. Is anyone having any issues with taking Geodon? Such as side effects or positive effects.
Avatar n tn My sister has been taking geodon for 6 months now. She is wanting to come off of the drug because it is not working any more. The drug has made her vision worse and her heart is not acting right. She is scared to stay on it. I have done some research and have found nothing good about this drug. She has all side effects. She is on day 1 with NO geodon.
Avatar m tn My question is about withdrawing from psychiatric medications. I was on 1200 mg of trileptal twice daily and 160 mg of geodon nightly. I withdrew of off the trileptal first and the geodon second. As i started withdrawing off of the trileptal i started to feel numb in my head. It is now about nine months later and the same annoying feeling is still there. My question is if withdrawing from the medication in the way i did was the cause of this numbness.
