Geodon for agitation

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon for agitation

geodon

Avatar m tn for me geodon was awful, i got really depressed on it. I know it depends on a person. so you can try it and see how it affects you.
Avatar m tn I'm prescribed Zyprexa in the "Zydis" rapid-dissolve form, 5mg, as needed "for agitation". I'm bi-polar, and sometimes I get worked up to a state that is more frustrated & agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues.
969163 tn?1281105479 He has recently been put on geodon, I had some experience, bad ones, with geodon, but for him it seems to work. He is notorious for not taking his medication, either at all, on time, or without food. Once in awhile, when he'll take his nighttime geodon, he becomes very groggy and falls asleep in a chair, on the steps, eating dinner, etc. when we try to coax him to go to bed he gets belligerent and nasty.
1167245 tn?1353878500 Hey y'all, The past two days, I've had some pretty bad problems with extreme agitation. Yesterday it was accompanied by depression, and today accompanied by hypomania. But each time, I wanted to be able to crawl out of my skin. Nothing felt comfortable, nothing felt right. The usual things I could turn to in an attempt to distract myself from my negative feelings, even for a moment, stopped being at all effective.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know of any medications other than Geodon, Depakote and Lexapro to treat Bipolar? I have been depressed for over 3 years, and I've also tried Lithium, Lamictal, Cymbalta and Buspar. I wake up dreading the day, and I feel very anxious all day, like I don't want to stay unoccupied. My thoughts are all about how I'm never going to beat this thing; it feels almost like something alien has taken over my brain. I also can't yawn anymore.
1610967 tn?1314811101 I took Geodon at one point in time for the psychotic symptoms associated with the diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. It worked pretty decently in some ways where other medications don't work so great but then the other medications work better in the ways it doesn't work so great.
Avatar f tn As I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder which was originally thought to be schizophrenia, I experience psychosis all the time regardless of my mood so I take antipsychotics for the psychotic aspect of my illness. Geodon worked better for my positive (hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, etc.) symptoms and not so great for my negative (loss of pleasure, lack of affect, lack of motivation, etc.) symptoms. Abilify works better for my negative symptoms.
Avatar f tn I had a noticeable increase in my anxiety and agitation while taking Zeldox/ Geodon, which was just made worse by the profoundly sedating effects. I would be exhausted but buzzing with anxiety, uncomfortable to do anything or be anywhere. Luckily, I was only given Zeldox to manage some rapid cycling that had popped up, and I was able to stop taking it once the cycling was under control. Unfortunately, you might just have to request a med change it this is indeed the culprit.
Avatar f tn I took Prozac for many years and really good success, really worked great for me and after several years it lost it's effect on me. Sometimes it it a matter of increasing your present meds. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn Does it work as well as the atypicals? It should for how much it costs. I also take lamotrigine 200mg/day and trazodone 50mg for sleep.
Avatar f tn Could you add a symptom to it? "Agitation" I know it's vague, but it's different from anxiety and I don't have a way to indicate it...
1255530 tn?1269867619 anyhow any suggestions on what worked for anyone else after having bad side effects. I need something for mania, insomnia panic and anxiety attacks. Side effects of amilify where as follows Hard time breathing, hyperventilating, feeling sick in respiratory, slight swelling of tongue, fast heartbeat, restless, dizzy, speech changes, tremors and shacking, eyes feel like there rolling in back of head, seeing spots when closing eyes for bed, insomnia, Mania returned in two days, agitation.
Avatar m tn Thanks for responding dear friend. It was my first experience with an antipsychotic and it terrified me.My Pdoc started me on this risperdal for a questionable hypomanic episode and it almost ruined my life.Thankfully I reduced it myself to 0.5mg from 3mg in two months and will be off it in 3 days.I feel my energy levels are better and I feel better now.Stay off Risperidone,it is awful.
735919 tn?1236444549 thank you for the info on Lamictal, but does anyone take Geodon? I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better, but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
Avatar f tn I didn't gain weight from Geodon but I sure did from Abilify.
Avatar m tn That actually appears to be one side effect of Geodon but given that all (current) antipsychotics have anti-cholinergic side effects that could happen with any antipsychotic and given that people react differently to each one perhaps it was the medication you were transferred to rather than the Geodon helping it as Geodon is less likely to cause anti-cholinergic effects than some other antipsychotics.
Avatar f tn My main issue was the binge eating at night when i was on geodon and seroquel. Ive been on geodon for 10 years and eventually was On such a low dose 40 mg that I just quit cold turkey. I did up my seroquel to 400 mg to eliminate the withdrawls. (im quite the pharmacist) I have actually been loosing weight rapidly. So glad I found the right cocktail! i'm 29 its about damn time!!
Avatar m tn but i keep getting a notice that all the questions that can be asked for the day have been used, that no more questions addressed to this doctor can be asked for that particular day. what do i do? i need to ask him about medication-related chills or sensations of cold that i want to cease.
Avatar n tn Geodon works great for some people and horribly for others, like any psych med on the planet. It is less likely to make you gain weight compared to others in the same class, and may be less sedating, but you'll really have no idea how it will work for you until you try it. I think it's also the least likely to cause metabolic problems out of the atypical antipsychotics, but any of them can potentially do that.
Avatar m tn hi...i've since taken my self off of geodon. as a refresher i was taking 120mg and dropped down to 60 mg for a week. i've read lots of exteme withdrawal symptoms but in the 3 days i've been off i'm not experiencing anything. i'm thinking it's going to take about 2 weeks for my brain to adjust without any geodon and another 2 weeks to hopefully see if my sleep returns. would that be a good time frame to expect a change?
Avatar f tn I have been on a combo of lithium and geodon now for the good part of ten years, and a high dose of neurontin was added a while back to treat mania, anxiety and fibromyalgia. I just dealt with a severe case of cycling for almost ten months, and this good set of meds could not effectively end my acute mania. I ended up getting the Abilify shot, followed by a few days of a high dose of Seroquel, then I resumed on the above mentioned cocktail of lithium 900 mg, geodon 240 mg, neurotin 1600 mg.
Avatar f tn The ONLY time I feel stable is about 45 minutes to an hour after I take the Lamictal at night. When I get up in the morning, I am confused, tired (exhausted), paranoid, racing thoughts, severe anxiety, naseous (I have lost over 50 pounds in six months (a lot because I can't eat during the day). The loss of appetite is about the same time that I took Geodon. I'm now off of Geodon. The symptoms haven't improved. I really haven't felt well for about a year.
Avatar m tn I'm on Geodon 80mg. with Clonazapam 1mg. and Trzadon 50 mg./ for Bipolar Disorder and have been for many years. The only complaint I have is really a BIG ONE to me. Weight Gain like the past three months 30 lbs. But The worst was the Generic Zyprexia 80mg. I had to stop taking it beacuse ai felt like a tic ready to pop! Even my bra sizes kept getting bigger and bigger thats how much weight I gained, After I stopped taking it' The Dr. put me back on the name brand GEODON!
Avatar n tn I took Geodon and lost a bit of weight on it. It didn't work as good as Abilify does for me but it's a great option for avoiding weight gain. It's supposed to be the best of all the mood stabelizers for that.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
