Geodon dosage for bipolar

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon dosage for bipolar

geodon

Avatar n tn Is Geodon at a small dosage (20mg) safe for an individual with no history of health problems? My doctor put me on this and I think it is really helping, but after reading all of the scary side effects I am reluctant to continue. Thank you.
192368 tn?1224204130 I have only read that Geodon is great for schizophrenia, and those other symptoms. Will it work for me and bring me out of this blue funk Ive been in for months? Im really concerned. Any input is great! thanks!
Avatar n tn My daughter has been taking Geodone for approximately 2.5 months. She says her dosage is 180mg daily at dinner time. she has begun loosing her hair and has decided to take herself off the medication immediately. Can anyone help me - I am very fearful of her doing this without a weaning process.
Avatar f tn She’s been on psychotropic medications for over 20 years now (starting with Stelazine, has also taken several other psychotropic medications, and finally has been on Geodon for the past 5 years). This year she developed tardive dyskinesia of the jaw/mouth and also respiratory dyskinesia. Her neurologist wants her to get off the Geodon and onto Clozaril. Her psychiatrist has been slowly weaning her off the Geodon and slowly increasing the Clozaril.
Avatar m tn does geodon help you with ur bipolar?? ( explain please??
Avatar f tn in cases of mild bipolar depression, is it normal for lows and highs to last only a few hours, rather than days or weeks? i have occasional week-long depression periods every once in awhile, but usually the hyper feeling or the depression will only last a few hours. is that normal in mild bipolar disorder? im a teenager if that makes a difference.
Avatar n tn Geodon works great for some people and horribly for others, like any psych med on the planet. It is less likely to make you gain weight compared to others in the same class, and may be less sedating, but you'll really have no idea how it will work for you until you try it. I think it's also the least likely to cause metabolic problems out of the atypical antipsychotics, but any of them can potentially do that.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar f tn he was briefly put on meds for a few months the 1st time and this last time he was put on Geodon. Im confused, the psychiatrist that put him on the meds org said that he would probably need to take them for a year or 2...He went back to work and had to have a physical and that doctor said that people usually dont stay on geodon to long...but his after discharge psychiatrist made it sound like he was going to be on geodon forever..he has never had depression either..
Avatar n tn I was in a psych unit for 12 days for no reason. I was only taking this high dosage for only twelve days until I started detoxing myself before I saw the therapist who told me I did not fit the symptoms of Psychosis. My question to you is since this medication has only been in my system for only 12 days will my insomnia go away? The heart palpitations have already minimized and the Hallucinations are gone but I still get body movements and am going on my second day of no sleep.
Avatar m tn I don't have Bipolar 1 but Geodon helps my depression for sure along with of course my psychosis since it's an atypical antipsychotic. It's FDA approved to treat Bipolar mania and my therapist told me even though it's not FDA approved to treat depression it still has a mood stabilizing effect. It might not be working right for you as medications work differently for everyone.
1354001 tn?1281392593 However it generally is able to start to work more quickly than some other antipsychotics such as Zyprexa and Seroquel which take a long time to build up to a proper blood level (all this I was directly informed and remember from taking it). For some people Geodon can be sedating. However for others it can be activating. Both side effects can improve with time.
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with medications for bipolar for twenty years now. Although everyone's bipolar is unique to them, I have bipolar I with psychotic features that only appear when I am medication free. I have been on a combo of lithium and geodon now for the good part of ten years, and a high dose of neurontin was added a while back to treat mania, anxiety and fibromyalgia.
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
Avatar f tn So, My daughter has bipolar, we've tried a few medications. Abilify caused massive wieght gain - so we've switched to Geodon. She's been taking the Geodon for over a yr now and we've had this problem that I can't seem to change with anyother variable.... thus I'm asking if anyone else has this issue with Geodon.
Avatar m tn I've been on Geodon for 18 months and Remeron for 6 months. They stabalized my anxiety, but have bad motivation and gave me a flat personality. I successfully weaned off Remeron without any problems. I started to taper Geodon from 60mg to 40mg and got really bad anxiety. Is this my anxiety returning or is this withdrawal? I've had the anxiety for about 5 days now.
518117 tn?1429276273 This was a listed side effect however but I think it also happens for some other antipsychotics. Sometimes on Geodon I also was rather quiet (even for already not talking a lot) and subdued but this went away after stopping it. Also a psychiatrist told me someone if someone starts hallucinating only after taking an antipsychotic it means they didn't need it in the first place or are at too high of a dose.
Avatar f tn Ever since I was diagnosed with Bipolar I, I have struggled with depression. Mine almost always stays in the depressive cycle. I haven't had mania in awhile, but the depression just lingers on and on. I currently take Lamictal 400 mg, Risperdal 1 mg, daily. He tried me on Abilify and that was a nightmare - made me feel "crazy". Also have tried Geodon - not good on that one either. I miss being happy - even if it was induced by mania.
497950 tn?1255863927 I was on Geodon after Abilify made me gain weight. The Geodon , for me, didn't work for bipolar symptoms but I am a diificult case. Abilify was the only med that worked. However, I did loose weight on Geodon and for the 2st couple weeks had an usdet stomach. If this drug works for you, and you know it's trial error for us anyway, I think you'll be please with the lack of side effects. I didn't even know I was on it after a week.
Avatar f tn Which is worse bipolar one or two. And has anyone taken geodon. If so what side effects did you have.
Avatar f tn I'm bipolar 1 and have been on 160 MG of geodon for 16 yrs and it has stopped working for me.
Avatar n tn I took Geodon and lost a bit of weight on it. It didn't work as good as Abilify does for me but it's a great option for avoiding weight gain. It's supposed to be the best of all the mood stabelizers for that.
Avatar f tn Hi, I want to comment on this since I have been on a slew of meds for my bipolar for years and eventually just had to make my own choice. First off, there is no great science out there that is going to magically make you feel all better. Seroquel is one of those drugs that when you take it, expect to pass out within 1 hour. There is no option on that drug but to pass out. I am on lamictal and have been for 4 years and have had no side effect from it but everyone is different.
Avatar m tn but i keep getting a notice that all the questions that can be asked for the day have been used, that no more questions addressed to this doctor can be asked for that particular day. what do i do? i need to ask him about medication-related chills or sensations of cold that i want to cease.
Avatar f tn my doc gave it to me for bipolar and to help me sleep. I was taking the 60mg and about 5 of them would knock me out. don't be scared of 40mg its like a puppy dog. The best food mix I found out is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for best results.
Avatar f tn It is an anticonvulsant used for epilepsy, migraine prevention, and off-label used for bipolar and weight loss. I have read good reviews for people using it for bi-polar. I am surprised no one mentioned it to you already. Good luck, although I am sure you have already been put on something. I have found that the key to taking medications is research A LOT before you put it in your mouth. http://www.iguard.
454366 tn?1211245301 The key to lithium treatment is constant blood monitoring. I have my blood done every 4 months. As for liver damage, anything that you put in your body that is not a raw food, causes liver damage. Monitoring the dosage is critical to proper lithium treatment. I have been on 300mg in the a.m., and 600mg in the p.m. and my liver and thyroid are both fine. I also take (in treatment of bipolar mania) 60mg Geodon 2x's daily, 1mg Ativan 3X a day, and .25mg Xanax 3X daily (as needed).
142722 tn?1281533616 also is it normal to feel fear of taking your meds while in a mixed state.
