does geodon help you with ur bipolar?? ( explain please??

I don't have Bipolar 1 but Geodon helps my depression for sure along with of course my psychosis since it's an atypical antipsychotic. It's FDA approved to treat Bipolar mania and my therapist told me even though it's not FDA approved to treat depression it still has a mood stabilizing effect. It might not be working right for you as medications work differently for everyone.

I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.

but his after discharge psychiatrist made it sound like he was going to be on geodon forever..he has never had depression either..he has only had 2 of these manic episodes.both came on after extreme stressful situations..do people with bipolar always have both or can they only have one.? Do you think he was diagnosed correctly? It all started because his grandpa died then I found out we couldnt do our planned invitro because I had a cyst..

Ever since I was diagnosed with Bipolar I, I have struggled with depression. Mine almost always stays in the depressive cycle. I haven't had mania in awhile, but the depression just lingers on and on. I currently take Lamictal 400 mg, Risperdal 1 mg, daily. He tried me on Abilify and that was a nightmare - made me feel "crazy". Also have tried Geodon - not good on that one either. I miss being happy - even if it was induced by mania.

So, My daughter has bipolar, we've tried a few medications. Abilify caused massive wieght gain - so we've switched to Geodon. She's been taking the Geodon for over a yr now and we've had this problem that I can't seem to change with anyother variable.... thus I'm asking if anyone else has this issue with Geodon.

I also increased the Geodon to 40 mg a day for the depression and am experiencing worse anxiety and obsessive thoughts, which I haven't had since the last time I was on 40 mg of Geodon. I can't find anything on the web that connects obsessiveness with Geodon. All of this is under my psychiatrist's guidance and he does not know why I'm experiencing this. Can you help?

Your moods can go up and down, and not be as distictive as Bipolar 1 - I have mixed states, I can have feelings of depression, impatience/crankiness, feeling like I've had too much, coffee ,anxiety to mention a few. Disassociation can be one of them too. There are a multitude of symptoms, not just the manic and depressive states. There can also be other diagnoses along side. I have generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), which can get triggered by my hpomanic and/or depression.

I've gone through the same kind of bipolar depression and geodon didnt help at all, it just me really hungry and sleep for 18 hours after each 40 mg dose... seroquel does work but stay at a low dosage or better yet lamictal is supposed to have antidepressant features.

He also added Cymbalta for depression. When she was on the Geodon, she functioned well, worked, was pretty stable and didn’t need an antidepressant. She is having a hard time with this transition (it's been a couple months now). She doesn’t feel “normal,” said she feels like her skin is crawling, she sleeps a lot during the day and is anxious about her future…wondering if the Clozaril doesn’t work, what will she be able to take.

Hmm, I've never heard of anyone being "mildly bipolar". Manic depression is typically traumatic with the moods and depression-which is why it's very debilitating and like the 2nd biggest disorder that qualifies for receiving disability. I'm with your doc, your probably just depressed.

Which is worse bipolar one or two. And has anyone taken geodon. If so what side effects did you have.

The ONLY time I feel stable is about 45 minutes to an hour after I take the Lamictal at night. When I get up in the morning, I am confused, tired (exhausted), paranoid, racing thoughts, severe anxiety, naseous (I have lost over 50 pounds in six months (a lot because I can't eat during the day). The loss of appetite is about the same time that I took Geodon. I'm now off of Geodon. The symptoms haven't improved. I really haven't felt well for about a year.

I am on an antipsychotic called geodon. The docs usually give bipolar pts antipsychotics, like resperadol, seroquel, zyprexa(ng), or geodon, or abilify. It depends on which one fits for your condition. Your ADD may be just when you are manic. Antidepressants can make a bipolar person manic after awhile. My daughter(42) has suffered from depression for a long time and is on lexapro. But sometimes she talks nonstop and gets irritable and angry( still single and upset about that).

I've been bipolar for about 8 years and I can control my mania with Geodon, but I've have yet to find a mediacation for my depressed. Some meds have some effect on my depression, but it only lasts a couple of months and I'm back where I started! I've even tried ECT treaments for 3 months with only minimal relief for the depression but I also lost huge chunks of my longterm remedies. I'm at a lose as what to do next. I've been giving up on ever getting better.

in cases of mild bipolar depression, is it normal for lows and highs to last only a few hours, rather than days or weeks? i have occasional week-long depression periods every once in awhile, but usually the hyper feeling or the depression will only last a few hours. is that normal in mild bipolar disorder? im a teenager if that makes a difference.

Well I was just curios if anyone have the depression part plus the anger part of bipolar but no ups, (not counting ups on medicion) So does anyone have mood swings between depression and anger?

m finding out probably depression and I probably mistook what depression is from bad descriptions to me and being apparently misdiagnosed with major depressive disorder earlier in life but I took them both for a psychotic disorder instead of a mood disorder. I don't know about Abilify but I know I read Geodon had the potential to send people into a state of mania. "Ziprasidone is known to cause activation into mania in some bipolar patients.

My father has bipolar, he takes a cocktail of medications (he also has tourettes, not verbal ticks, more twitches). He has recently been put on geodon, I had some experience, bad ones, with geodon, but for him it seems to work. He is notorious for not taking his medication, either at all, on time, or without food. Once in awhile, when he'll take his nighttime geodon, he becomes very groggy and falls asleep in a chair, on the steps, eating dinner, etc.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder since '95, but through a lot of research and getting completely sober I really feel that I actually have Borderline Personality Disorder with Severe Depression and Anxiety. I just got prescribed Lamictal because I've tried everything over the years and nothing works for long. I'm still on Topomax, Geodon, Prozac and Desyrel.

So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.

Mood Disorder NOS(not otherwise specified) His dr put him on Geodon 40mg twice a day. He started this med on Tues. was discharged from hospital on Sat. He is still very depressed, anxious, having like panic attacks etc. Does anyone know if this is "normal" or what. I am trying to get his follow up with therapist moved up because it isn't until 3/31 and he doesn't see dr. until 4/6 I feel this is way too long to wait.

Hello Everyone, I'm very new community. My new dr. just recently told me that me that I'm bipolar. I had been on lamictal for about two years for depression and anxiety, but weaned myself off of it, as I was convinced that it was making me gain weight. When I weaned myself off, I fell into a deep depression and had to find myself a new dr. I started Topamax and Wellbutrin, but the Wellbutrin is making my thoughts and heart race. So I have to go off.
