Geodon and zyprexa

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon and zyprexa

geodon

Avatar n tn Hes putting me on geodon to try and get me off zyprexa and to see if i get better sleep. I am on 30 mg of zyprexa right now and life has been better, cause at one time i was on 40 mg. With all the medications I am on I still don't sleep that well. We both think I'm over medicated. The doctor says that I need to calm down and relax and wait for them to work and then he will start to slowly reduce my amounts and how much medications i am on. the objective right now is to fisrt stablize me.
Avatar n tn I began taking atypical antipsychotics just over a year ago, and stopped just over a month ago. I have been on Risperdal, Abilify, Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Geodon, in that order. Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia).
Avatar f tn I have gained weight eat salads and fruits. And still gain weight has anyone else has a problem likes this. I heard topamax does not make u gain weight. Any help. Thanks so much.
Avatar f tn Ok thanks, the geodon doesn't seem to be covering the olanzipine withdrawal.
Avatar f tn I waz on and i had a reaction to it its got an ingredient in it and caused me to lactate not bein pregnant and zyprexa i gained alot of weight like 20lb in a month
Avatar n tn I'm wondering why he would be on both Geodon and Zyprexa. They are both antipsychotics. The Simvastatin is for cholesterol. Does he have high cholesterol or heart disease? The Colace might be inevitable with the other medications, because they can cause constipation. Have you considered a second opinion? Is he being treated by a psychiatrist who specializes in adolescent psychiatric medicine?
Avatar m tn Yes all atypical antipsychotics have the potential of weight gain although Zyprexa has the most potential for this side effect. Risperdal and Abilify are also available in rapid dissolve format and Abilify has less of a potential of weight gain although each person responds differently to each medication. The mood stabilizer Lamictal is available in rapid dissolve format as well.
Avatar m tn Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
Avatar f tn I then took Seroquel for several years and my weight stayed stable, but still overweight 60 lbs. I then took Geodon (Zeldox) and within a year I had lost 30 lbs without changing anything in my diet or exercise. For the first 10 months I felt great. I had so much more energy, I felt like I was coming out of a long period of being a zombie. Unfortunately I had to stop Geodon because it started causing anxiety.
Avatar f tn aripripazole (abilify) and ziprasidone (geodon) are 2 other atypical antipsychotics like your olanzapine (zyprexa). nobody neither your pdoc can tell their effect on you, it's all trial and error everybody manifests different effect and side effect. he/she only prescribed them to you because they don't make you put on weight gain contrary to zyprexa, that's all.
Avatar m tn 150 milligrams of trazadone at bedtime, 120 milligrams of geodon at bedtime, 1milligram 3 times a day of lorazapam and 150 milligrams of wellbutrin 2 times a day.
202665 tn?1248806733 I was on Geodon for about 3 years. About six months of overlap with Zyprexa at the beginning - it took forever to get off of Zyprexa - and almost a year of overlap with Seroquel at the end. It was a good drug in general. I remained relatively stable the entire time I was on it, but still experienced significant sleep problems. Eventually tried Seroquel because I had already been on all of the others (I had problems with Abilify, too) and it tends to have more of a sedative effect.
Avatar f tn I like to lift weights as well to keep shaped and toned. No sodas and caffienes and sugar.Fill up on fruits and veggies yougurts and such. you can do it I have gone from 225 to 201 on this regimen. it is jsut a little harder for us to loose weight but it can be done.
Avatar f tn I bit the bullet and decided to start my Zyprexa last night, OMG I wish I hadn't. I'm only on a very low start dose of 2.5mg but I had the following side effects: Tingling of mouth and tongue, dry tongue but watering mouth, runny nose and a feeling as though my throat was closing, weakness of legs and weird breathing - breathing was really slow. This morning my tongue is still tingly and my throat is swollen.
Avatar f tn ve been on it and i had to stop taking it because of restless arms and legs and very irritable and i could not sleep . I know that one guy on here is on it and he is doing really well on it .
Avatar m tn I remember Geodon made me manic and irritable and I don't do well on it. Everyone reacts differently to every medication and there are other choices as regards antipsychotics. Speak to her psychiatrist about this.
8798274 tn?1399988458 I took Zyprexa for 6 months but since I began experiencing some side effects I suddenly stopped taking the drug (no weaning off). When I stopped the medication, I started with serious problems (a lot of crying, anxiety, panic attack and sleep problems). I did not sleep for 3 days, then I slept like for three days. I do not feel tired anymore, I do not get that sleepy tired feeling. I have tried many meds to help me to sleep (trazodone, klonopin, Geodon..) nothing help.

1354001 tn?1281392593 m really hoping since geodon is an anti psychotic it will help my rapid thoughts and speech. has anyone had any luck with this medication? or is there anything else i should know about geodon?
401554 tn?1270213756 I was on Zyprexa for about a year and a half and I got a few of these murmurs. I was reassured that they were harmless and because they didn't especially hurt I was satisfied with this answer. Since then I have been switching around medications like a lab rat, and most of the others have caused me significant constirnation. The best for my mind seemed to be Geodon, but then again I was only on it for about 10 days before reading that it may cause Parkinson-like symptoms.
Avatar f tn My son, 21, has been on Zyprexa for 6 months after presenting with a psychotic episode. His psychiatrist recommended a switch from Zyprexa to Zeldox fearing the deveopment of metabolic syndrome. He has now moved and is looking for a new psychiatrist which will take some time before the first appointment. What dosage of Zeldox would be equivalent to 10 mg daily of Zyprexa? What side effects can be expected during the switch from Zyprexa to Zeldox?
Avatar f tn ADs and BP disorder are always an interesting conundrum. I know that there have been extensive studies regarding a Zyprexa/Prozac combination for BP disorder. Those studies have shown to be effective. If you and your pdoc are thinking about going with Prozac, I would probably look into using it with Zyprexa. The ADs can be hit or miss, especially with BP folks. I know that I (along with many BP friends) have had serious issues with all of the ADs.
Avatar n tn When I was changed from Seroquel to Risperdal I had some standard flu like withdrawal symptoms. Basically I felt run down and lousy and had some aches and pains and had to sleep a lot for a couple of days but it was nothing dangerous and it went away. Don't know if that was specific to that antipsychotic change over or would happen with others. Ask your psychiatrist for more specific information.
497950 tn?1255863927 I am on zyprexa and celexa for my bi polar and they work great. I did gain in the beginning but I have lost it through exercise and 6 healthy meals a day. you can keep from gaining on the zyprexa. Plus I decided that I would rather be stable with the weight than skinny and in jail.
Avatar f tn Geodon I gained no weight from but Abilify I did but I think it's because it made me start eating more.
Avatar f tn t bother her so much when she was really manic but now that she is in a depressed state it seems to be make the depression that much worse. And it ***** for her because she is 15 it is hard enough to try and act normal when your 15 and not bipolar.
Avatar m tn Some of the one I am familiar with are Abilify, Geodon, Depakote, Lamictal, Lithium, Remeron, Aoloft, Prozac, and many many more. You may want to post and ask for a website link to get more info. I know one site www. NAMI.org is very good and has links. I think it boils down to good old fashion research. Usually it's a combination of 2 or 3 meds to treat the different symtoms of Bipolar. Most people are not on just one med.
1255530 tn?1269867619 I did better on Risperdal and Seroquel (which do have more of a mood stabilization property, Zyprexa is noted for this as well but for myself it caused extreme weight gain and sedation, Abilify is less likely to cause weight gain and sedation of course). All this you would have to discuss with your psychiatrist.
Avatar f tn I was on Zyprexa and the sister drug Risperdal.... Loved how it took me off the edge...HATED the weight gain.... Abilify was suggested years ago- For me, abilify worked well enough on its own- I am a rapid cycler Biploar II. At one point I was on 14 different medications..... in the end Abilify was my "balance" I was able to experience moods, but not in the extreme measures that I was... Personally, I liked abilify- i had that and PRN of seroqoel.
