geodon and weight

I am on Topamax for my migrains and for weightloss, well I am taking Geodon as well for depression, my question is.... If I am taking geodon will the Geodon which can cause mild weight gain counter act the weight loss with the topamax??

Do serequel cause weight gain? (200 at bed time) It sure helps me sleep.Dr will replace geodon with Lamictal and tompamax. Thanks for any feed back.

Now that I have stopped taking Geodon, I would like to know if anyone out there has been through the same experience with weight gain AND if weight loss is a side effect of coming off of Geodon? If not, is it easier to lose weight once you are off of the medication? I have my mind back and now I want my body back! Hope to hear some good news!

Well my medication is going to have to be changed because of the reaction I had to it when it was increased and I didn't gain any weight on Geodon so I was wondering what other antipsychotics have a low chance of causing weight gain like Geodon because I used to be fat and got picked on a lot for it and don't want to go through that again.

I got put on geodon almost 2 weeks ago, I am not sure if it is working for me me but I have actually lost weight since taking it. I was on remeron and that made me gain weight, then he just did change my meds and diagnosed me borderline bipolar. I hope that helps you, I would try it for atleast a month good luck!

He is having severe memory problems. Is it due to Geodon? He has schizoaffective disorder. He was also put on cogentin and inderal.

Hi I have read on other sites that geodon makes u gain weight. I have gained weight eat salads and fruits. And still gain weight has anyone else has a problem likes this. I heard topamax does not make u gain weight. Any help. Thanks so much.

I was going to take the Lamictal with the Geodon, and and only take the Geodon long enough to get me to the theraputic dose of lamictal. However, the Geodon made me really hyper and irritable (at only 20 mg), and gave me a ravenous appetite. So now I'm trying a very small dose of seroquel with the Lamictal. And yes, the dr. I'm seeing is a psychatrist who specialises in eating disorders. I love my family doc.

I am on seroquel and abilify, and so far they havent caused any weight gain for me, or weight loss! I was on geodon at one point to, but that was a nightmare! You will have to sit back, and see what happens. If you really dont want the weight gain, then exercising should definitely help! I cant say for sure either, what the result will be!

t work for bipolar symptoms but I am a diificult case. Abilify was the only med that worked. However, I did loose weight on Geodon and for the 2st couple weeks had an usdet stomach. If this drug works for you, and you know it's trial error for us anyway, I think you'll be please with the lack of side effects. I didn't even know I was on it after a week. I had hoped it would be the drug for me because it helped me loose some weight but for me it didn't help with my bipolar.

Included in my regimen are Geodon and Cymbalta. I noticed when I added the Geodon, I am not as hungry and food does not always taste as good. It has improved over the course of the year, but I have other more bothersome side effects from the Geodon. It has helped me in so many ways, I stay on it. I am bipolar 2 with PTSD. I was on Geodon, risperdal and lithium. The geodon was added last, and the risperdal was weaning down. I took it when it was new. For a few months, I did okay with it and didn't really have any problems. It was stopped because it eventually caused perceptual,,, especially visual, disturbances all of a sudden, and I ended up misjudging the freeway and drove my car over the embankment.

I then took Seroquel for several years and my weight stayed stable, but still overweight 60 lbs. I then took Geodon (Zeldox) and within a year I had lost 30 lbs without changing anything in my diet or exercise. For the first 10 months I felt great. I had so much more energy, I felt like I was coming out of a long period of being a zombie. Unfortunately I had to stop Geodon because it started causing anxiety.

150 milligrams of trazadone at bedtime, 120 milligrams of geodon at bedtime, 1milligram 3 times a day of lorazapam and 150 milligrams of wellbutrin 2 times a day.

What I have been reading Geodon is very hard to stop. It has made me gain lots of weight. And urinating too much. Kinda of scared of it now. And my short term memory is sad.

All antipsychotics CAN make you gain weight, but some are worse than others. Geodon is supposed to be weight neutral, and Abilify mostly weight neutral (won't make you gain or lose). Saphris has gotten a lot of good reviews in the weight department, and I believe Latuda has as well, but these are both still brand only, which might affect insurance coverage (and will affect cost). Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure if a med will cause you problems without trying it first.

It is often activating though so if you have that problem you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it in the morning. Along with Abilify and Geodon, Fanapt and Saphris are two new FDA approved antipsychotics (approved for bipolar as well) that have less of a potential for weight gain. See what happens and keep informed and discuss available options with your psychiatrist.

So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.

I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off. I feel terrible like I'm about to bust out of my skin cause I'm so fat now. So, My daughter has bipolar, we've tried a few medications. Abilify caused massive wieght gain - so we've switched to Geodon. To the poster on Abilify -- you should research drugs and not just think about them because they're getting a lot of advertising. Abilify is only approved for depression when all other meds have failed. It has a high side effect profile, and is usually used for augmentation, not stand alone.

She was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism and told to get off the Geodon because it causes weight gain and possibly Diabeties (he was pretty upset that she was taking Geodon and believes she's been mis-diagnosed). Sure enough, she's pre-diabetic and now also taking Byetta and Metformin. All these medications really have me worried. She's now experiencing diarrhea frequently and stomach pain often lately.

Geodon is known to cause weight gain and I have experienced weight gain on both Depakote and Seroquel and requested that my psychiatrist discontinue both medications, which he did do. The bright side however, is tat with propeer diet and exercise the weight did come off and I had gained 40 pounds. Thanks for the info. I have been taking it since April. The forgetting has to be from the geodon. I thought I might be drinking to much water at night so I drink more in the day. That didn't help. I also gained weight and can't lose it I have been eating salads and making smoothies. Ugh. I wish I was normal. Thank you.

Geodon is a great mood stabilizer for many people. It has a low incidence of weight gain and very few side effects. I was on it for 4 weeks but unfortunately it didn't work for me but most people have success with it. I switched to Abilify and it works great for me!

t think, but I took rispiridol and gained like 30 pounds in a month so I told my pdoc and he put me on geodon- I lost the weight in a month that I had gained. I guess it's different for everyone, u just have to see what different meds do for u.

I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
