Common Questions and Answers about Geodon and sleep

geodon

Avatar m tn the last time I had an episode was in august -september of 2008 and at that time i was taking 40 milligrams of geodon but during the episode it increased to 160 milligrams of which would make me feel groggy after 8 hours of sleep and now i take 120 milligrams and can only get about 5 hours of sleep even though i'm taking the elevated increase from 50 milligrams of trazadone to 150 milligrams and it's still not giving me a proper amount of sleep of which I have taken the past three night
675718 tn?1530033033 i can't sleep, i have nightmares and when i do sleep i dream of combat & being in the military again
Avatar f tn My main issue was the binge eating at night when i was on geodon and seroquel. Ive been on geodon for 10 years and eventually was On such a low dose 40 mg that I just quit cold turkey. I did up my seroquel to 400 mg to eliminate the withdrawls. (im quite the pharmacist) I have actually been loosing weight rapidly. So glad I found the right cocktail! i'm 29 its about damn time!!
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
Avatar f tn Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
Avatar m tn She was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism and told to get off the Geodon because it causes weight gain and possibly Diabeties (he was pretty upset that she was taking Geodon and believes she's been mis-diagnosed). Sure enough, she's pre-diabetic and now also taking Byetta and Metformin. All these medications really have me worried. She's now experiencing diarrhea frequently and stomach pain often lately.
Avatar m tn I have been on Quetiapine and it has been working except for the fact that I have gained 30lbs, and family and friends have noticed and nicely pointed it out, but personally it doesnt help my self esteem, as I have always been thin. I tried Zeldox and it made me so hyper I couldnt funtion, as well as not being able to sleep or hold down food, so I stopped it.
Avatar f tn my doc gave it to me for bipolar and to help me sleep. I was taking the 60mg and about 5 of them would knock me out. don't be scared of 40mg its like a puppy dog. The best food mix I found out is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for best results.
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
794091 tn?1264986339 HI! Geodon, Seroquel, I finally slept. I forgot my seoquel. Counted tabs and had too many.I need to get med. box.
Avatar f tn ve been on it and i had to stop taking it because of restless arms and legs and very irritable and i could not sleep . I know that one guy on here is on it and he is doing really well on it .
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Geodon, Cymbalta, Lamictal and Geodon. Recently I've had times when I've seen things that weren't what they really were. I'm wondering if this is psychosis. They're not like hallucinations, just sort of like I'm in a fog, not with it. I also have trouble with my understanding when someone is saying something to me, like a delayed reaction, feeling kind of slow. I really wonder if I need both mood stablizers.
202665 tn?1248806733 First off, I would be curious as to why your doctor feels that you need to be on not one, but two anti-psychotics (Geodon and Seroquel). They are pretty powerful and in my experience, when a person starts a new one, they are taken off the other. But not knowing your current symptoms, I cannot say. I was on Geodon as a mood stabilizer for 2 1/2 years. For a long time, I was very satisfied with it.
Avatar f tn I'm bipolar 1 and have been on 160 MG of geodon for 16 yrs and it has stopped working for me.
Avatar n tn In the morning I take 40mg of geodon and in the night I take 80mg. But 2 days ago i couldnt get a refill so i didnt take any. So I was without until this morning. This morning when I woke up, I went to the bathroom. The freakiest withdrawal symptom happened, it felt as if I was mentally retarded, and I didn't know where I was at. Other symptoms are shakiness, heart pounding, insomnia. But the first one I've never had before and it freaked me out.
Avatar f tn I then took Seroquel for several years and my weight stayed stable, but still overweight 60 lbs. I then took Geodon (Zeldox) and within a year I had lost 30 lbs without changing anything in my diet or exercise. For the first 10 months I felt great. I had so much more energy, I felt like I was coming out of a long period of being a zombie. Unfortunately I had to stop Geodon because it started causing anxiety.
Avatar n tn Hes putting me on geodon to try and get me off zyprexa and to see if i get better sleep. I am on 30 mg of zyprexa right now and life has been better, cause at one time i was on 40 mg. With all the medications I am on I still don't sleep that well. We both think I'm over medicated. The doctor says that I need to calm down and relax and wait for them to work and then he will start to slowly reduce my amounts and how much medications i am on. the objective right now is to fisrt stablize me.
642393 tn?1227032656 I've taken Abilify for yrs & love it. I have none of the side effects I had on other drugs. Try it!
Avatar n tn I went a few months without any medication, before receiving a prescription for Geodon. GEODON IS A TERRIBLE DRUG. I took 20 mg a day for four days, and during those four days (and for several days after) I experienced lightheadedness/feeling faint, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, akathesia, irregular/rapid heart beat, racing thoughts, EXTREME anxiety, insomnia, and flu like symtoms. All of these were so debilitating, it was difficult for me to even get up and walk around.
1354001 tn?1281392593 m really hoping since geodon is an anti psychotic it will help my rapid thoughts and speech. has anyone had any luck with this medication? or is there anything else i should know about geodon?
Avatar m tn I have been on Geodon for about two years and my hair is coming out in handfuls.
Avatar m tn I've been on Geodon for 18 months and Remeron for 6 months. They stabalized my anxiety, but have bad motivation and gave me a flat personality. I successfully weaned off Remeron without any problems. I started to taper Geodon from 60mg to 40mg and got really bad anxiety. Is this my anxiety returning or is this withdrawal? I've had the anxiety for about 5 days now.
Avatar n tn He is having severe memory problems. Is it due to Geodon? He has schizoaffective disorder. He was also put on cogentin and inderal.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I am on the lowest dose of geodon, but I am worried about taking more because it gave me body aches, and I had to start taking cogentin again, and if I take more of the geodon it might increase my chances of getting more yucky side effects. I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, lol.
Avatar f tn It is often activating though so if you have that problem you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it in the morning. Along with Abilify and Geodon, Fanapt and Saphris are two new FDA approved antipsychotics (approved for bipolar as well) that have less of a potential for weight gain. See what happens and keep informed and discuss available options with your psychiatrist.
899491 tn?1243773627 Sleep is interesting while being on Abilify. When I do go to sleep it's a deep sleep for two hours then I wake up. This pattern goes on throughout the night until morning. I do get my eight hours of sleep. When I started Abilify I couldn't wait for my next dose to increase. I started at 5mg then up to 10mg then I can't wait for my next appointment for the next higher dose. Could this drug be addictive?
192368 tn?1224204130 I have only read that Geodon is great for schizophrenia, and those other symptoms. Will it work for me and bring me out of this blue funk Ive been in for months? Im really concerned. Any input is great! thanks!
Avatar f tn he/they said that he heard me crying and was trying to get to me and they wouldnt let him (it was another patient that was crying right after I had left he said it sounded just like me) it took 4 mantaince workers and 2 security guards to get him strapped down so they could give him a sedative and then the doc put him on geodon and said that he is bipolar...the 1st doc he saw said it was anxiety..
585414 tn?1288941302 One time I took my Geodon when I was taking that and its sedation kicked in too late for some reason and I fell asleep for six hours at work. Of course you can't do that at a normal job and I wasn't able to do that constantly even at that job but uh I don't know where I was going with this actually. Huh. I guess the moral of the story is you need to compensate and I guess do what you're doing that works best.
