Geodon and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon and side effects

geodon

Avatar f tn I had blurred vision, slurred speech and I felt like my body had lead in it and it was hard to move. I stopped taking it and after a week I still feel spacey and have some tingling in my hands and feet. Could I be having these feeling because I had such a strong reaction to the med? I am afraid these symptoms are permanent. I only took 80mg once!!
Avatar m tn my wife and i are noticing aggressive behavior, and paranoia(along with nhs therapist)she is currently in hospital(acute care)and docs and therapists seem to be ignoring this and are contemplating release after suicidal/homicidal threats, has anyone experienced or heard of such aggression from geodon?i did find side effects on web that confirm this could happen, but seems doctors cant find or have ever heard of this? can anyone shed light please!!!!!
Avatar n tn I began taking atypical antipsychotics just over a year ago, and stopped just over a month ago. I have been on Risperdal, Abilify, Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Geodon, in that order. Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia).
447130 tn?1225470866 I'm on Lithium 300mg twice a day but my doc cut me down to 1 a day because my ankles and legs are swollen up like an elephant. Has anyone else had this happen, does it go away after you are on it for awhile? I;ve been on it 2 weeks and aside from shaking a lot that's the only side effect. I also take Geodon 120 mg. a day. Don't think it was Geodon because it didn't happen until I started the Lithium. I try to drink a lot of water to flush my system out but it's not helping.
735919 tn?1236444549 I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better, but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.
Avatar n tn There are many alternatives available that do not cause these side effects and remember that everyone is different, so side effects are often different for each person. So another medication may not be as difficult for you and sometimes initial side effects fade after taking the medication for awhile. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn Major side effects of Geodon are listed below and if encountered you should stop taking the medication and contact your doctor at once: -dizziness, feeling light-headed, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeat; -fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats; -tremor (uncontrolled shaking), restless muscle movements in your eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck; -agitation, hostility, confusion; -increased thirst or urination, weakness, extreme hunger; or -penis erection that is
596143 tn?1226648054 I diagnosed me with Rapid Cycling Bipolar, and Anxiety with dilusions. He put me on Geodon. What side effects should I expect? Tonight I felt dizzy, blurring vision, and sleepiness.
Avatar m tn Plus, the effects of the ligands at their receptors goes beyond simply agonism and antagonism and their respective effects on electric currents. For example, some of the receptors blocked by geodon are 'presynaptic' receptors; this induces... what, exactly? It effects the release of other transmitters-- that is what most people think about and that is a straightforward effect. But that presynaptic binding may do many other things as well.
Avatar m tn No actually anti-cholinergic side effects include dry mouth and blurred vision so dry skin might be part of that and perhaps the Geodon wasn't causing it as much as what you took before or after as dry skin did seem to be a rather common side effect of Geodon but wouldn't of course always happen.
1354001 tn?1281392593 However for others it can be activating. Both side effects can improve with time. When I was on Geodon I had to have an EKG first as they had to test for any heart irregularities before a person could start taking it as that was required at the time. Some people find some of these side effects to be intolerable. Other people do quite well on it but like any medication its essential to give it time to work and to see if the side effects improve.
1320310 tn?1284834871 im having a hundred different emotions from that situation as well. has anyone had similar side effects from taking geodon and luvox and what are some side effects if any that i should look out for?
Avatar m tn I just looked up side effects for it and there was nothing that said hair loss. I see my pdoc next Tues. and I will ask him.
Avatar m tn This is going to explain the side effects of Geodon better than I even can and I take it and experienced some of them but mostly only during the adjustment period. Side effects occur differently for each person. http://bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/geodon/geodon-side-effects.
497950 tn?1255863927 t work for bipolar symptoms but I am a diificult case. Abilify was the only med that worked. However, I did loose weight on Geodon and for the 2st couple weeks had an usdet stomach. If this drug works for you, and you know it's trial error for us anyway, I think you'll be please with the lack of side effects. I didn't even know I was on it after a week. I had hoped it would be the drug for me because it helped me loose some weight but for me it didn't help with my bipolar.
390140 tn?1219883889 I just was put on Abilify two weeks ago after a cold-turkey drop in my Geodon (why the Doc did it this way I don't know). I was manic as Hell and very short-tempered, verbally abusive, and impatient for about a week whichh is TOTALLY unlike me.. I'm now into week two and the side efects have lessened greatly, but they are still there to some extent. I was initially put on 10mg and after complaing to the Doc, she bumped me up to 15mg. No weight gain.
899491 tn?1243773627 All the side effects.....sometimes I wonder and very scary. Warning: Adult Material http://www.youtube.com/watch?
642393 tn?1227032656 Abilify has a lot of information on the web about side effects and a quick google may work well, always remember that side effects are not all going to happen to you or even likely - Abilify is well liked and fairly safe compared to some of the AP and AC drugs like Geodon and Risperdal.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I tried Seroquel and it gave me high blood pressure and made me feel like I was going to faint all the time. Risperdal did great things for me and worked pretty well but I just went off of it because it shot my prolactin level through the roof. Abilify did absolutely nothing for me. Man this Geodon sux!!! It doesn't work and it is giving me some horrible side effects. I just went to the ER for chest pain, feeling fluttery in my chest and feeling jittery, and left arm pain.
Avatar n tn Actually the Cogentin and Inderal (a blood pressure medication) might causing the memory loss but they are used to control extra-pyramidal side effects and are necccesary for that. Those are movement disorders that are temporary but he is also at risk for permanent conditions such as tardive dyskinesia which I have and in myself is as bad as Parkinsons and can emerge after the antipsychotic masks it while it is progressing. It is irreversible.
Avatar f tn Now that I have stopped taking Geodon, I would like to know if anyone out there has been through the same experience with weight gain AND if weight loss is a side effect of coming off of Geodon? If not, is it easier to lose weight once you are off of the medication? I have my mind back and now I want my body back! Hope to hear some good news!
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar n tn For me the side effects of bipolar are far worse than the side effects of the medications. For me I regained a life taking meds and I appreciate that life. Knowing what I do though, if I had cyclothymia or was just mildly depressed at baseline I wouldn't take them. But I was nutbar crazy so we needed to use the good stuff.
Avatar f tn Have to be honest I was only on that for a while because it was activating and kept me up at night. I also had a problem with heart palpatations (I believe everyone has to get an EEG first as I did) so I had to discontinue it and change back to a previous medication with my psychiatrist's superivision. But some people have done well on it so it depends. It is often activating though so if you have that problem you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it in the morning.
Avatar n tn What was the Geodon prescribed for? There can be side effects from any drug, regardless of whether it is needed or not. I would also agree with xanweaver that it is a good question for Dr. Gould and that only psychiatrists should be prescribing anti-psychotic medication. They just have more training and expertise with those classifications of medications. Best wishes...
Avatar f tn Has anyone else had these side effects from Lex? Anyone been on Lex for awile with no side effects, only to have them develop later? Don't side effects happen in the beginning only?
