Geodon and mania

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon and mania

geodon

Avatar f tn Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
Avatar m tn I take Geodon for psychosis and mania. I don't know about the rest but it works great for me. I respond to it really well.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
735919 tn?1236444549 thank you for the info on Lamictal, but does anyone take Geodon? I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better, but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.
Avatar f tn I just went through a temporary taper, I found I was in withdrawal and had massive headache and flu-like symptoms and had to go back up. Subsequently, I did research on this and discovered that if I stopped taking geodon, I most likely would get Dopamine Agonist Withdrawal Syndrome (DAWS) and want to know if I'd be likely to get this were I to stop taking geodon because it wasn't effective in stopping drawn out acute mania.
Avatar f tn with no success each time I fly high in happiness then stumble into the bloody mania and each time the mania takes longer to extinguish. True i didn't try st john's wort but read about others' experience and still it brings mania. Of course there are AC's like lamictal which has AD property or abilify an AP with same action activating etc...but i am speaking of an SSRI say because it also kills not only depression but also anxiety and along with OCD. But in vain.
Avatar m tn I have taken Geodon before and it did not make me sedated, not sleepy at all. Everyone responds differently to meds though. If your dr says you can take it at night, that sounds like a good plan. Maybe you will be able to tell how sleepy you get and if you feel groggy in the morning, in which case taking it at night would be best.
Avatar m tn I've been on Geodon for 18 months and Remeron for 6 months. They stabalized my anxiety, but have bad motivation and gave me a flat personality. I successfully weaned off Remeron without any problems. I started to taper Geodon from 60mg to 40mg and got really bad anxiety. Is this my anxiety returning or is this withdrawal? I've had the anxiety for about 5 days now.
968185 tn?1248255581 They decided to try her out on geodon to see what happens, she has gotten so horrible! She is acting selfish and not at all her self, doing things my sister would never do to people. She recently did something pretty bad and the police are looking for her. I believe she will be charged with a felony, She stole over 700 dollars from someone I know she loves and spent it all in a day partying.
794091 tn?1264986339 Will I always Feel foggy. On Seraquel ,Geodon. But, its better than mania. Oh! on Celexa, all new! I'm 43 Or give it more time ! Just been feeling bad so long.
685321 tn?1230951152 anyways i recently went into the hospital (state hospital) and lied about being suicidal because i thought i was losing my mind!! i was on geodon in sept and stopped cold turkey, due my drs request, in nov. i had the worst anxiety of my life! but i am now on buspar and feel great, so here's my problem, ever since i stopped the geodon i haven't felt like i'm in reality. i constently touch my arm or face to see if i'm really here.
Avatar f tn Which is worse bipolar one or two. And has anyone taken geodon. If so what side effects did you have.
Avatar f tn Abilify does have mood stabilization effects. An SSRI generally is of concern for someone with bipolar and can easily worsen mania. Abilify like all antipsychotics can treat it. Abilify and Geodon are activating, that is they will make a person more likely to be awake instead of being sedating. I know when I was on Geodon and Abilify they kept me up practically the whole night but they didn't make me manic. Some people find it better to take it in the morning for that reason.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I am on the lowest dose of geodon, but I am worried about taking more because it gave me body aches, and I had to start taking cogentin again, and if I take more of the geodon it might increase my chances of getting more yucky side effects. I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place, lol.
Avatar m tn I cannot conceive of the Army knowing about his condition - Geodon is used for acute mania treatment and schizophrenia so its not just an MS - its a rather serious drug with some rather nasty side effects. I am baffled as to how your son thinks he is going to get into the army - he will need to pass a full medical and they are going pick it up - god hopes they do because I personally would not want to be within a mile of a psychotic manic soldier with an automatic rifle.
142722 tn?1281533616 d have to speak to your psychiatrist to find out if the anxiety is just something untreated or a minor side effect of the Geodon and if it will go away in time. Think about when the anxiety started to get worse and speak to them about all this.
1030383 tn?1338460785 s physically a nightmare, and now there are some psychological difficulties as well. My dx is schizoaffective disorder, and I'm coming off Zyprexa, Abilify, Ativan, Sertraline. I'm hiding this from everyone except a couple people - don't want to get thrown in the hospital. Any ideas on getting through withdrawal when you're getting manic, should sleep, and usually you'd take pills??
Avatar f tn Speak to your psychiatrist now and see what advice they give you as regards medication changes if needed. Hypomania can sometimes be a warning sign of full blown mania so be careful and inform your psychiatrist.
1255530 tn?1269867619 Insomnia, mania, and mixed episodes drove me crazy for years. Seroquel was the drug that finally kicked the worst of it. I had been on Zyprexa, Risperdal, Abilify, & Geodon, as well as Lamictal and Lithium and countless sleep drugs and sedatives. Seroquel isn't perfect, but it is magic for me compared to all of the other drugs I've been on. We're now adding in some Tegretol to see if it can make things even better. My husband - also bipolar - takes Seroquel too.
447130 tn?1225470866 Really helped out mania. It was that depression I had to work on, and finally getting well from it too on my Wellbutrin. Have they tried you on Lamictil? It balances both ends. I could not use it because it caused my migraine headaches to flair up. Some sort of interaction with my BC pill hormones. Anyhow, hope this helps!
202665 tn?1248806733 First off, I would be curious as to why your doctor feels that you need to be on not one, but two anti-psychotics (Geodon and Seroquel). They are pretty powerful and in my experience, when a person starts a new one, they are taken off the other. But not knowing your current symptoms, I cannot say. I was on Geodon as a mood stabilizer for 2 1/2 years. For a long time, I was very satisfied with it.
Avatar m tn my pdoc put me on respidol..that stuff made me maninc and sevre mania i was very out of it..whats a good anti depressant..not a ssri....
4971738 tn?1390565384 I take a low dose of lithium (600mg) and am doing okay on it. Because it is such a low dose I don't have to get my lithium levels drawn like you do on a higher dose. I have noticed the shakiness. It bothers me at times. My psych says it could be the geodon but I think it's the lithium. I'm weaning off other things like the geodon and lamictal. She wants me to get down to only zoloft and lithium.
733744 tn?1337950650 I start hoarding for a rainy day. I get real psychotic and paranoid. My last episode I went into mixed state...depression and mania. Not a pleasant feeling.
Avatar n tn Hes putting me on geodon to try and get me off zyprexa and to see if i get better sleep. I am on 30 mg of zyprexa right now and life has been better, cause at one time i was on 40 mg. With all the medications I am on I still don't sleep that well. We both think I'm over medicated. The doctor says that I need to calm down and relax and wait for them to work and then he will start to slowly reduce my amounts and how much medications i am on. the objective right now is to fisrt stablize me.
Avatar n tn As with any other psychiatric medication they would lessen the effectiveness of them and potentially cause psychosis and mania (especially marijuana) in a person who has a psychiatric disability just by using them so its not worth it.
Avatar f tn but didnt realize I was in a agitated mixed state till I did my research about it and discovered he was right on....I was started on geodon 60mg in the am and pm...and what a difference!!! I stoped self medicating and the anger is gone....and I have been doing more things lately with my kids and husband they are so happy to see me comming back...I was also started on Vynase for adhd and that has also helped...
Avatar n tn s been a few days since I quit the Geodon and I feel horrrrrrriiiiiiibbbbbblllllllle. I have never been so angry and unmotivated and emotional numb in my life. Fun fun!!!!! Oh and also, my coordination was soooo bad the past couple days that I got into a car accident and totally f*cked up my new car.
