geodon

602865 tn?1239906277 I am new to this site and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about mixing the medicine Lithium and Geodon? I have been taking Lithium for almost 3 years now and it has helped me so much, but I feel the effects are not as helpful as they once were. My psych. added Geodon to the mix and I had a horrible experience! I was crying one minute and angry the next. I hadn't self-injured for a long time and I did last week. I called my Dr.
1102233 tn?1308506220 Some people can build up a tolerance to certain medications or even all of them, I know one person for example who builds up a tolerance no matter what they are on. I was on the highest dose of Geodon for example for a day and it kept starting to wear off and I had to be increased until I got to the highest dose there. The current medications also can't fix all symptoms a person experiences like Geodon only made the frequency of my paranoia go away but not the severity as another example.
4971738 tn?1390565384 I take a low dose of lithium (600mg) and am doing okay on it. Because it is such a low dose I don't have to get my lithium levels drawn like you do on a higher dose. I have noticed the shakiness. It bothers me at times. My psych says it could be the geodon but I think it's the lithium. I'm weaning off other things like the geodon and lamictal. She wants me to get down to only zoloft and lithium.
1610967 tn?1314811101 I am currently taking Lithium, Cymbalta, and Geodon and I was wondering if anyone, that has taken these medications, has experienced their food tasting strange. I have been taking these medications for months now and this is a recent problem. I find that I don't want to eat and when I do it can taste a little off.
915369 tn?1355314810 On my last appointment she told me she would be tapering me off of Risperdal and Tegretol so I decided to just not restart taking it, and I was supposed to start taking Geodon because I could afford it now but the Geodon made me so sick so I ended up only taking it for a couple days (so sick I couldn't work or leave the house). So now I'm only taking my lithium, and really only the evening dose (which is half my daily dose anyways).
719785 tn?1232901518 I agree completely with ILADCOCATE. I have (and currently) been off and on Geodon for a long time. It is a life saver for me. But I also take other medications as well, including several mood stablizers. Lamictal is great, Lithium. Call the doc and try to demand a sooner appointment. If it takes that long to see the doc, maybe there is someone else out there. My pdoc allows me to call him anytime if something suddenly comes up.
518117 tn?1429276273 The minor tremors caused by lithium are seperate and that unlike the Haldol can be adjusted for. And if he does need an antipsychotic, the atypical antipsychotics, from Risperdal onwards and less likely to have the severe effects of Haldol. Most likely they just stabilized him and released him and a follow up visit with the psychiatrist to adjust and fine tune things should improve things.
1172209 tn?1263427216 Lithium can cause fluid retention and those may be signs of it but also you should call this to the attention of your doctor because its still a concern and they would probably have a blood test done just to rule out any imbalance in salt levels caused by the lithium. As regarding the weight gain from lithium that is a separate issue and is not just water retention but is caused by metabolic issues that cause a change in appetite and diet. You should discuss all this with your psychiatrist.
454366 tn?1211245301 Well we are off the Lithium, now have tried also since Lithium, Geodon, klonapine. And we are starting Thorazine. We will see how that helps the aggression. Lets cross our fingers and hope for the best.
Avatar m tn This is going to explain the side effects of Geodon better than I even can and I take it and experienced some of them but mostly only during the adjustment period. Side effects occur differently for each person. http://bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/geodon/geodon-side-effects.
1258608 tn?1269552597 Does anyone else suffer from major hand tremors? I am on Geodon, Zoloft, Klonopan, Propranolol, & Lithium. My tremors have gotten worse and would like to know if anyone was able to overcome them. It really bothers me and is very noticeable.
447130 tn?1225470866 I take 1450mg a day of Lithium and my blood test runs at .9, which is perfect. Everyone is different for their levels. I started at 900mg a day. Sounds like you were on a starting dose, no wonder you are still frustrated with mania! I am so sorry. Anyhow, I just got a little shakey for about three weeks and then Lithium took to me like a miracle drug. Really helped out mania. It was that depression I had to work on, and finally getting well from it too on my Wellbutrin.
Avatar n tn I am bipolar 2 with PTSD. I was on Geodon, risperdal and lithium. The geodon was added last, and the risperdal was weaning down. I took it when it was new. For a few months, I did okay with it and didn't really have any problems. It was stopped because it eventually caused perceptual,,, especially visual, disturbances all of a sudden, and I ended up misjudging the freeway and drove my car over the embankment.
Avatar m tn Seems the geodon, seroquell and depakote were my best combination from the hospital pdoc in 05. Wierd because lithium and geodon were not a good mix and left me further in the hole. Won't give you the recipe in open forum. Have to go get ready to go to psych. Better than two weeks ago but still in the hole. Hope your skin remains without dryness.
Avatar f tn ive been put on multiple meds just bc of experimenting to see if theyd work on depression.. Zoloft, seroquel, septalaphram, geodon and respirdol. I realized at some point i felt like a zombie..i couldnt taste or feel and didnt care about anything, such as hygiene, hobbies, friends or family, grades..it didnt matter. I felt less than depressed, like an empty shell. So i quit taking those meds and some of the things have gone away but i still feel very vague..like in a dreamlike state..
1610967 tn?1314811101 I went to the pdoc yesterday and he decided to put me on 40mg of Geodon to help with my racing thoughts and slight paranoia, as well as my concentration problem. I wanted to take everything I said back (I was hoping he would up my lithium since my levels are low.). I am scared of this medicine and I was wondering if anyone else has taken it and how did it work/not work for you?
Avatar m tn I remember Geodon made me manic and irritable and I don't do well on it. Everyone reacts differently to every medication and there are other choices as regards antipsychotics. Speak to her psychiatrist about this.
Avatar f tn So yesterday Abilify(2mg in am) was added to my 600mg(3002xd)Lithium, 1mg(1xd)Xanax and of course 50mg(1/2 or 1@bedtime)..Has anyone had any experience with Abilify?f it's something bad..nevermind.
Avatar f tn m at my last resort after being on Depakote, Lamictal, Geodon, and Cymbalta. If anyone has had any experience with either of these drugs, I'd like to know what you thought of them.
Avatar f tn You can take birth control and be pregnant on lithium and geodon combo and there are really relatively few adverse side effects!
Avatar n tn I am taking 900 mg of Lithium Carbonate ER, 20 mg of Celexa and now my Dr. wants to start me on 40 mg of Geodon. Has anyone else been on this medication combo?
Avatar f tn Two of the medications (Cymbalta, Geodon) you are taking can commonly (especially Geodon) cause extra pyramidal side effects (temporary movement disorders) such as akathesia which can be treated with a side effect pill. I had that problem with Lamictal but with that it is a statistically rare adverse side effect. If you are feeling any cognitive confusion that should go away in time. Once the Lamictal begins to work in full you can ask your psychiatrist about adjusting your other medications.
Avatar m tn I chose to try everything else before the lithium because I was worried about lithium and the risks of toxicity. However, I do wish it had been my first choice now because the difference has been quite remarkable.
735919 tn?1236444549 There are no side effects and its the best alternative to Lithium. I am on Lithium and love it, it just took quite a while for me to adjust to it. I think about four weeks. It made me really sick to my stomach you have to make sure you drink plenty of water and eat good before you take it. Also the upside to Lithium is it more natural then the other medications, and it only cost $4 at wal-mart hehehe. Lamictal is a little bit on the pricey side.
Avatar f tn My main issue was the binge eating at night when i was on geodon and seroquel. Ive been on geodon for 10 years and eventually was On such a low dose 40 mg that I just quit cold turkey. I did up my seroquel to 400 mg to eliminate the withdrawls. (im quite the pharmacist) I have actually been loosing weight rapidly. So glad I found the right cocktail! i'm 29 its about damn time!!
Avatar f tn Is anyone taking both Depakote, Lamictal and Geodon? I feel very unemotional and blah still, and my doctor doesn't know what to do. I'm sort of at my last resort with this. I was under the impression that Depakote and Lamictal do the same thing, so why would I be on both when it's not helping? Any answers would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn i stopped taking risperdal a week ago and i feel lousy. can anyone relate ? im still on lithium.
Avatar f tn It would be interesting to find out how many people are on more than one medication for their mental health. I am currently on 3 medications, Depakote and Lithium for my BP and Zopiclone to aid sleep. I realise this is a very basic poll as it does not show how many different types of mental health problems are being experienced but depending on the response this could lead to a further poll about diagnosis etc.
