Common Questions and Answers about Geodon and lexapro

geodon

Avatar f tn I am currently taking ziprasidone along with lamictil and topamax and Lexapro as well as an occasional Ativan. I have been taking 80mg ziprasidone-geodon- twice a day for almost three years now. It has made me gain almost 200 pounds! I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off. I feel terrible like I'm about to bust out of my skin cause I'm so fat now.
Avatar f tn I am currently on 40mg of lexapro and my therapist prescribed 80mg of geodon once a day. I took the geodon one night and the next am I was extremely sedated. I had blurred vision, slurred speech and I felt like my body had lead in it and it was hard to move. I stopped taking it and after a week I still feel spacey and have some tingling in my hands and feet. Could I be having these feeling because I had such a strong reaction to the med? I am afraid these symptoms are permanent.
Avatar f tn I was taking 300 mg of Lamictal with 40mg of Lexapro and 10mg Geodon when I had a really bad manic episode. I had never had an episode while on meds before. Any and all information would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
584628 tn?1218598371 I have gained an enormous amount of weight on Seroquel. I started taking it 5 years ago, and have asked for something that isn't weight gaining. I was put on geodon, but had a terrible reaction (my tongue swelled and I couldn't breathe or speak), zyprexa I gained weight too, so I stuck with the Seroquel and just have to work a little harder to get this weight off. My doc knows how I am about my weight, before I started Seroquel I had lost 80 lbs. now I have gained that plus.
Avatar f tn I take Pepcid and GasX almost every day. To test my Lexapro theory I went off it for three days (I know your not supposed to just stop, but I am at my wits end and really wanted to see if this is the problem). The first day my sypmtoms were the same. The second day they were slightly better and the third day there was no heartburn at all. I plan on telling my Doc, but I know he will just tell me that it is not related. Has anyone else had these side effects from Lex?
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking Geodon, Cymbalta, Lamictal and Geodon. Recently I've had times when I've seen things that weren't what they really were. I'm wondering if this is psychosis. They're not like hallucinations, just sort of like I'm in a fog, not with it. I also have trouble with my understanding when someone is saying something to me, like a delayed reaction, feeling kind of slow. I really wonder if I need both mood stablizers.
Avatar f tn I presently take 1000 mg of Depakote (for 18 years), 180 mg of Geodon (for 3 years), and 10 mg of Lexapro (since September). None of these make me feel any better. I've just lost any joy in life. I'm too young to feel like this--I'm only 50. Anyone have any ideas on what meds have helped them? Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I'm bipolar 1 and have been on 160 MG of geodon for 16 yrs and it has stopped working for me.
Avatar m tn I have been on a lot of different meds in the last 10 years. Geodon and topamax were the worst. Both made me suicidal and a completely different person--rage ,throwing things, severely depressed to the point that I couldn't get out of bed. Now I am on lexapro (which I have been on for years) 20mg , Wellbutrin ( my new psychiatrist just upped me to 450 mg), temezapam 15 mg. I am also tapering off of lamictal 250 mg.
Avatar f tn i have PTSD from combat and i take zoloft for this and i suffer from flashbacks and nightmares i also have schizophrenia and tardive dyskinesia i take geodon and congentin for this.
Avatar n tn I went a few months without any medication, before receiving a prescription for Geodon. GEODON IS A TERRIBLE DRUG. I took 20 mg a day for four days, and during those four days (and for several days after) I experienced lightheadedness/feeling faint, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, akathesia, irregular/rapid heart beat, racing thoughts, EXTREME anxiety, insomnia, and flu like symtoms. All of these were so debilitating, it was difficult for me to even get up and walk around.
Avatar m tn I have been on Geodon for about two years and my hair is coming out in handfuls.
Avatar n tn He is having severe memory problems. Is it due to Geodon? He has schizoaffective disorder. He was also put on cogentin and inderal.
Avatar m tn I was taking 1200mg of trileptal (600 twice a day), 160 mg of geodon (once at night, and 30 mg of lexapro (once in the morning. This numbness that i am experiencing is honestly debilatating. It is overwhelming and unbearable. I can't help but just lay in bed and sleep because that is the only time I have any relief is when I sleep. I went to a neurologist and he performed some tests believing that he wouldn't find anything.
497950 tn?1255863927 m on Zoloft and Depakote - I still cycle but not as badly - I feel like a fat whale and have gained about 5 lbs (not that much really) I really liked how Lexapro and Depakote improved my sleep and lowered my blood sugar readings (I am also diabetic) but one dosage of the Lexapro gave me dysphoric mania and that is not good and a higher dosage gave me "pure" mania and I couldn't sleep and was quite crude SO.... Hope all goes well...
776302 tn?1241091853 My daughter(42) has suffered from depression for a long time and is on lexapro. But sometimes she talks nonstop and gets irritable and angry( still single and upset about that). She blames it on PMS. But I fear she is turning bipolar. It runs in the family. I read somewhere is the patient gets enough depressed situations over the years it can turn into manic depression. I know you feel there is a stigma with bipolar. And you feel embarrassed.
Avatar n tn I have Bipolar 2 and PMDD. I switched from Geodon to Lamictal in December 2010. Since that point, my depression has greatly improved and I feel like my old self. But, ever since I began Lamictal, the Lexapro that controlled the PMDD issue for years, stopped working. I'm now having severe PMDD issues every month. My doctor switched me from Lexapro to Viibryd a week ago. I am experiencing increased appetite, gastrointestinal distress, and can't sleep.
Avatar f tn I have recently started 200mg Lamictal and 20mg Lexapro and it seems to be working for me, controls the depression and anxiety. If that combination was working for you I don't understand why your doc took you off it, but that's his call. I am never afraid to try new meds that my doctor recommends, because as triedeverymed says, if the new stuff doesn't help in a couple of weeks, then go back to the old meds or try another new one.
735919 tn?1236444549 thank you for the info on Lamictal, but does anyone take Geodon? I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better, but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.

Avatar f tn Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
1202354 tn?1267655734 I decided to work out on the 7th and it was not a good idea I started to work out and I started to sweat than stopped and started getting goose bump and got really dizzy so I stopped and sat down, aparently this combintaion of medication blockes the ability to sweat and put the body temp very high!!! so I decided I would not take this medication anymore....
Avatar n tn Today is my fifth day on Geodon and I have been doing massive research on it to find out as much as I can about its pharmacology and effects. My question is: if Geodon causes constipation, will taking a stool softener decrease its absorption? Also: I understand it must be taken with food, what fiber/fat gram goal should be met before taking it?
Avatar n tn There is a cautionary note to alert the doctor if there is a history of seizures on Geodon. I am assuming that your psychiatrist is seeing both you and your son as his patients. ILADVOCATE gave you good advice to address your concern to the doctor. When prescribing meds or treatment, if there are any concerns or noteworthy precautions regarding the meds or treatment, information like instructions on what to watch out for and information is given along with the prescription of treatment.
Avatar f tn 5yrs ago (or so) I was diganosed with depression and tried lexapro, effexor, wellbutrin, celexa, and others with no results so I did the wrong thing and gave up and starting taking other meds to try to give me the euphroic feeling BAD IDEA to try and self medicate!!!!
Avatar m tn My doctor instructed me to hang on to the Zyprexa for emergency situations, but took me off of Abilify and replaced it with Geodon, which "it's claim to fame" (as she put it) is that it's least likely to cause weight issues, among the atypicals. 20mg twice daily. So far it is working well, and I get slightly drowsy but I'm not eating everything in sight. So now the regimen is Lexapro 20mg, Geodon 20mg/x2, Clonazepam 1mg/x3, and Trazodone 150mg/bedtime.
597160 tn?1254498907 m on Geodon, Lexapro, and Nurontin. I have been fired or had to quit several jobs because of this disorder. I just simply can't hold down a job. I want to apply for disability but am afraid to for fear of going through that long process and paper work and telling people that I can't work at the age of 28. I'm afraid of being turned down and having no way to support myself. I live with my Fiance who takes care of me as best he can, but it's not enough.
Avatar n tn m on 300 mg of welbutrin xl in the evening before bed, 150 mg of welbutrin sr in the morning, 150 mg effexor xr in both morning and before bed, and 40 mg of geodon in the evening. i'm hoping to switch the welbutrin and effexor to something else, either a single medication or two different medications, i've also been put on zoloft, lexapro, and prozac where the medications i'm not on currently either didn't work as they should have, or they had more negative side-effects than not.
