Geodon and hallucinations

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon and hallucinations

geodon

Avatar f tn I am currently taking Geodon, Cymbalta, Lamictal and Geodon. Recently I've had times when I've seen things that weren't what they really were. I'm wondering if this is psychosis. They're not like hallucinations, just sort of like I'm in a fog, not with it. I also have trouble with my understanding when someone is saying something to me, like a delayed reaction, feeling kind of slow. I really wonder if I need both mood stablizers.
Avatar n tn I went a few months without any medication, before receiving a prescription for Geodon. GEODON IS A TERRIBLE DRUG. I took 20 mg a day for four days, and during those four days (and for several days after) I experienced lightheadedness/feeling faint, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, akathesia, irregular/rapid heart beat, racing thoughts, EXTREME anxiety, insomnia, and flu like symtoms. All of these were so debilitating, it was difficult for me to even get up and walk around.
Avatar n tn I have taken up to 120mg of Cymbalta and never had hallucinations and I have never heard of anyone having hallucinations caused by Cymbalta. I looked it up in a PDR and hallucinations are not mentioned, not even one case. You will probably need an antipsychotic for the hallucinations if you continue to have them even when off Cymbalta.
596143 tn?1226648054 I eventually persuaded my pdoc to take me off it. That was the only side effect though. It did take away hallucinations and paranoia and so forth though. It does work really well.
Avatar n tn My question to you is since this medication has only been in my system for only 12 days will my insomnia go away? The heart palpitations have already minimized and the Hallucinations are gone but I still get body movements and am going on my second day of no sleep. Was this dosage too high in the first place since he did not start me off on the recommended dosage of 20mg twice a day? will I be able to detox myself and have all of these symtoms go away?
Avatar f tn Some people have psychiatric symptoms get worse or appear after taking an antipsychotic like a guy I just talked to today took a low dose of risperdal for anxiety and he started having hallucinations after taking it. Everyone is different really and their brains adjust to things differently.
Avatar f tn I'm also taking it as an antipsoychotic and antidepressant..The hallucinations just recently started and I can feel myself getting down..I don't want to end up like I did last time when I had a major depression episode. I've been mostly manic lately and that's when I see and hear things. I just took my first dose this morning and I'm really really hoping that this medicine willl help. Thanks for your input.
Avatar f tn My main issue was the binge eating at night when i was on geodon and seroquel. Ive been on geodon for 10 years and eventually was On such a low dose 40 mg that I just quit cold turkey. I did up my seroquel to 400 mg to eliminate the withdrawls. (im quite the pharmacist) I have actually been loosing weight rapidly. So glad I found the right cocktail! i'm 29 its about damn time!!
Avatar n tn Spouse taking Seroquel, Lithium, & Geodon. Auditory hallucinations & delusions began about a month ago with no prior history of mental illness (we've been together 14 years). He was however abusing oxycodone, oxycontin, xanax, soma, & ritalin. We took him to the ER 3 wks ago & he was put on risperdal 1mg x1 wk, then 2mg before going back to ER. With no past mental illness history & age ~40...
Avatar n tn I have bipolar, ptsd, severe panic disorder, and schizoaffective. Been on meds for years. Without Dr. A few months sop family Dr gave me Geodon, cymbalta and Xanax till I got new Dr. New Dr put me In hospital for 3 days and took away Xanax and added vistaril 25mg 3 times day, neurontin 300mg @ bedtime, trazodone 100mg @ bedtime and up dose to 90mg cymbalta. Getting worse so saw Dr. and up dose on trazodone and vistaril. Still not better up dose on Geodon.
518117 tn?1429276273 Well Geodon (an antipsychotic) on higher doses made me drag my feet where I actually tripped on steps and almost broke my neck until I got used to it. This was a listed side effect however but I think it also happens for some other antipsychotics. Sometimes on Geodon I also was rather quiet (even for already not talking a lot) and subdued but this went away after stopping it.
202665 tn?1248806733 First off, I would be curious as to why your doctor feels that you need to be on not one, but two anti-psychotics (Geodon and Seroquel). They are pretty powerful and in my experience, when a person starts a new one, they are taken off the other. But not knowing your current symptoms, I cannot say. I was on Geodon as a mood stabilizer for 2 1/2 years. For a long time, I was very satisfied with it.
Avatar f tn My son is waiting to see a psychiatrist due to hearing voices and having some hallucinations. He is in college and finding these things distracting to his work as well as concerning. Did you ever try the niacin at high doses? Can you share what has and what has not worked for you? I greatly appreciate your time and help in replying. Thank you!
Avatar f tn Hi, I have always had anxiety. After going to a psydoc he said I may be bipolar. He prescribed me 180mg 0f Geodon and 1000mg of Depakote. After taking this a week I began having heart palpatations, swollen ankles, hallucinations right after taking them and felt sick and restless. I couldn't wake up and catch a snap until around 3pm even after drinking several cups of coffee and I fely numb like a zombie. He took me off cold turkey.
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
1255530 tn?1269867619 Namely Abilify has treated my paranoia and inability to express myself which Geodon never touched which ruined my quality of life significantly but it is not working as great for my hallucinations and things like that. I only got to try Risperdal briefly but it seemed like it was going to work the best out of them all unfortunately, unfortunate because I couldn't stand the side effects. Of course medicines will work differently for you than they did for me and anyone else.
Avatar f tn As I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder which was originally thought to be schizophrenia, I experience psychosis all the time regardless of my mood so I take antipsychotics for the psychotic aspect of my illness. Geodon worked better for my positive (hallucinations, delusions, paranoia, etc.) symptoms and not so great for my negative (loss of pleasure, lack of affect, lack of motivation, etc.) symptoms. Abilify works better for my negative symptoms.
Avatar m tn Told him the Geodon helped immensely and he wanted to place her on Dexidrene for the daytime (taken 2-3 times a day) and wanted to wean the Geodon and replace with Abilify or Seroquel (this one would be taken twice a day). He is not making any decisions until he speaks to her geneticist at some point today or tomorrow and then will call in the prescriptions. This is exhausting and there is really no one for me to talk to about my fears for her future or advice on what to do next.
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
Avatar m tn Then, about 2 ½ years ago I had a near-psychotic meltdown, mostly about the devil and evil spirits, and was diagnosed with OCD and prescribed Anafranil and Zyprexa, which helped with the irrational thinking and obsessive thoughts a little. Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism.
Avatar f tn I'm bipolar 1 and have been on 160 MG of geodon for 16 yrs and it has stopped working for me.
Avatar m tn I have been on Geodon for about two years and my hair is coming out in handfuls.
Avatar n tn He is having severe memory problems. Is it due to Geodon? He has schizoaffective disorder. He was also put on cogentin and inderal.
735919 tn?1236444549 thank you for the info on Lamictal, but does anyone take Geodon? I take 40mg Geodon and Lamictal. I do feel so much better, but i was wondering more about the Geodon side effects. I feel alittle more anixous im wondering if it is the Geodon.
Avatar n tn That is a major trigger for mania, and mania can lead to hallucinations, etc. You may be right on the verge of a manic episode and need to calm it down before it spirals upwards. I hate to say go to your doctor, but unless you have something that has worked in calming you down and letting you get some more rest, I would make a phone call to the doctor. I've seen some pretty scary things since I've been diagnosed bipolar.
Avatar f tn Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
Avatar m tn ) I have taken a number of different sleep aids; Ambien, Melatonin, and drugs for the side effect of sleep; Trazodone, Geodon, and others. I now work over nights at my job and many days I don't need to take the two I am still prescribed (Ambien and Trazadone) to sleep.
1202354 tn?1267655734 I decided to work out on the 7th and it was not a good idea I started to work out and I started to sweat than stopped and started getting goose bump and got really dizzy so I stopped and sat down, aparently this combintaion of medication blockes the ability to sweat and put the body temp very high!!! so I decided I would not take this medication anymore....
Avatar n tn Today is my fifth day on Geodon and I have been doing massive research on it to find out as much as I can about its pharmacology and effects. My question is: if Geodon causes constipation, will taking a stool softener decrease its absorption? Also: I understand it must be taken with food, what fiber/fat gram goal should be met before taking it?
Avatar n tn There is a cautionary note to alert the doctor if there is a history of seizures on Geodon. I am assuming that your psychiatrist is seeing both you and your son as his patients. ILADVOCATE gave you good advice to address your concern to the doctor. When prescribing meds or treatment, if there are any concerns or noteworthy precautions regarding the meds or treatment, information like instructions on what to watch out for and information is given along with the prescription of treatment.
