So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
I then took Seroquel for several years and my weight stayed stable, but still overweight 60 lbs. I then took Geodon (Zeldox) and within a year I had lost 30 lbs without changing anything in my diet or exercise. For the first 10 months I felt great. I had so much more energy, I felt like I was coming out of a long period of being a zombie. Unfortunately I had to stop Geodon because it started causing anxiety.
I was forced to stop Geodon cold turkey because of this and went on a Beta Blocker. Plus, I had bloodwork, CT scan of heart, numerous EKGs...all normal.
However, long after stopping Geodon, I still am having heart issues. Two weeks after stopping Geodon, I went to the ER once more since then for high heart rate (170 BPM). Now, a month and a half later, my heart rate is STILL having issues.
I need to get off of it but Everytime I do I start the withdrawal. Has anybody else been on geodon this long and gained so much weight? I even exercise and can't get it off. I feel terrible like I'm about to bust out of my skin cause I'm so fat now. Is there something else I can take that will allow me to lose the weight, not make me gain anymore weight, and work as well for bipolar1 with psychosis? Please, I'm dying to try anything right now. I'm tired of feeling bad.
That sounds great! My son has tried many different meds and suffered lots of side effects. I wish he could find a dose that worked for him and supplement with holistic treatments. It's hard to find a doctor in our area that knows anything about any of that. His primary care doctor is recommending a gluten free diet.
ve only gained 10 pounds on the geodon and it coincides with you beginning exercise, it could be just the muscle gain. Most people gain weight when they first start working out. this is because muscle weighs more than fat. I'd give give geodon a month or two more before dismissing it or ask someone at the gym how much you can expect to gain from your exercise regimen and for how long. I wish you luck. I loved seroquel, but I gained roughly 35 pounds in 4 months.
I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
I am currently taking Geodon, Cymbalta, Lamictal and Geodon. Recently I've had times when I've seen things that weren't what they really were. I'm wondering if this is psychosis. They're not like hallucinations, just sort of like I'm in a fog, not with it. I also have trouble with my understanding when someone is saying something to me, like a delayed reaction, feeling kind of slow. I really wonder if I need both mood stablizers.
I'm bipolar 1 and have been on 160 MG of geodon for 16 yrs and it has stopped working for me.
I went a few months without any medication, before receiving a prescription for Geodon. GEODON IS A TERRIBLE DRUG. I took 20 mg a day for four days, and during those four days (and for several days after) I experienced lightheadedness/feeling faint, headache, nausea, loss of appetite, akathesia, irregular/rapid heart beat, racing thoughts, EXTREME anxiety, insomnia, and flu like symtoms. All of these were so debilitating, it was difficult for me to even get up and walk around.
She was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism and told to get off the Geodon because it causes weight gain and possibly Diabeties (he was pretty upset that she was taking Geodon and believes she's been mis-diagnosed). Sure enough, she's pre-diabetic and now also taking Byetta and Metformin. All these medications really have me worried. She's now experiencing diarrhea frequently and stomach pain often lately.
I have been on Geodon for about two years and my hair is coming out in handfuls.
She’s been on psychotropic medications for over 20 years now (starting with Stelazine, has also taken several other psychotropic medications, and finally has been on Geodon for the past 5 years). This year she developed tardive dyskinesia of the jaw/mouth and also respiratory dyskinesia.
Her neurologist wants her to get off the Geodon and onto Clozaril. Her psychiatrist has been slowly weaning her off the Geodon and slowly increasing the Clozaril.
I was going to take the Lamictal with the Geodon, and and only take the Geodon long enough to get me to the theraputic dose of lamictal. However, the Geodon made me really hyper and irritable (at only 20 mg), and gave me a ravenous appetite. So now I'm trying a very small dose of seroquel with the Lamictal.
And yes, the dr. I'm seeing is a psychatrist who specialises in eating disorders. I love my family doc.
Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
I've been on Klonopin for months and I barely eat and I keep gaining weight. It's not just Klonopin, it's any medication that I take for my brain that causes me to gain weight and when I get off the medicine, I never lose the weight. So now I'm clincically obese (it's been 7 years, almost 8 in a few months) and I don't know what to do anymore. Right now I'm on Geodon and Klonopin and they help out my BP and anxiety so much but at the risk of what???
Today is my fifth day on Geodon and I have been doing massive research on it to find out as much as I can about its pharmacology and effects. My question is: if Geodon causes constipation, will taking a stool softener decrease its absorption? Also: I understand it must be taken with food, what fiber/fat gram goal should be met before taking it?
There is a cautionary note to alert the doctor if there is a history of seizures on Geodon. I am assuming that your psychiatrist is seeing both you and your son as his patients. ILADVOCATE gave you good advice to address your concern to the doctor. When prescribing meds or treatment, if there are any concerns or noteworthy precautions regarding the meds or treatment, information like instructions on what to watch out for and information is given along with the prescription of treatment.
I did nothing drastic except I decided to bring a lunch to work vs. go out more often. Then, I decided to join the gym and keep up with a regular exercise plan. I know it sounds overly simplistic, but it worked for me.
There are always some side effects to any medication we take in my opinion...be it prescription or OTC. In my experience, if the benefits outweigh the side effects for me, then I usually keep on the same path. Having said that, there are options.
I take it with zyprexa and zyprexa ios notorious for weight gain. the bes thin to do is to eat healthy and sensibly like 6 small meals a day and exercise. Nothing strenuous it can be just a brisk walk for 30 mins aday. I like to lift weights as well to keep shaped and toned.No sodas and caffienes and sugar.Fill up on fruits and veggies yougurts and such. you can do it I have gone from 225 to 201 on this regimen. it is jsut a little harder for us to loose weight but it can be done.
but i keep getting a notice that all the questions that can be asked for the day have been used, that no more questions addressed to this doctor can be asked for that particular day. what do i do? i need to ask him about medication-related chills or sensations of cold that i want to cease.
