Common Questions and Answers about Geodon and depression

geodon

Avatar n tn I also increased the Geodon to 40 mg a day for the depression and am experiencing worse anxiety and obsessive thoughts, which I haven't had since the last time I was on 40 mg of Geodon. I can't find anything on the web that connects obsessiveness with Geodon. All of this is under my psychiatrist's guidance and he does not know why I'm experiencing this. Can you help?
Avatar f tn m finding out probably depression and I probably mistook what depression is from bad descriptions to me and being apparently misdiagnosed with major depressive disorder earlier in life but I took them both for a psychotic disorder instead of a mood disorder. I don't know about Abilify but I know I read Geodon had the potential to send people into a state of mania. "Ziprasidone is known to cause activation into mania in some bipolar patients.
Avatar f tn On Friday, I called to make an appointment to go in and talk to my pdoc about my depression, etc., and hopefully he can help. I go in a week. I just don't want him to increase my dosages of Lamictal and Risperdal. I already stay a little foggy (nothing like on Geodon), and I have this weird thing when I move my head really fast or something, I get dizzy. Does anyone else have that weird side effect?
Avatar f tn I took Geodon for two years and you need to build up like from the beginning again raise your levels it will kick in when you need it the most kk
1258608 tn?1269552597 Propanolol is a beta blocker so that sometimes can cause depression itself as it slows down heart rate. Think when the depression and anxiety began and your psychiatrist could see whether medications aren't treating it or may potentially have worsened it and adjust and/or change your medication as appropriate.
Avatar m tn I don't have Bipolar 1 but Geodon helps my depression for sure along with of course my psychosis since it's an atypical antipsychotic. It's FDA approved to treat Bipolar mania and my therapist told me even though it's not FDA approved to treat depression it still has a mood stabilizing effect. It might not be working right for you as medications work differently for everyone.
Avatar f tn I just tapered down from Geodon and I'm completely off of it now. I was feeling panic, anxiety, depression, overall feelings of doom. My pdoc told me that he thought I was having bad side effects from the Geodon, so now I am off of it. Right now, I am taking Lamictal 400mg per day (for bipolar 1). I still feel confused, sedated, and overall just bad. I feel like I have the flu almost. This has gone on for months and I can't seem to shake it.
1202354 tn?1267655734 I am on Topamax for my migrains and for weightloss, well I am taking Geodon as well for depression, my question is.... If I am taking geodon will the Geodon which can cause mild weight gain counter act the weight loss with the topamax??
Avatar f tn Also people with bipolar is it possible to only have the manic episodes and not depression or do they get both..cause my hubby never had depression and like i said he has never had probs before and no family history...He had a bad car accident about 7 yrs ago and he hit his head really good that they wouldnt operate on his knee for a week because he had a little bleeding in his brain and they wanted to wait for that to stop..
1688103 tn?1306036134 You can see a pdoc and go through counciling and find the right meds and it can be treated. Yes depression or bipolar both well any mental problem is hard as heck. I can relate though. I dont have any motivation, I have negative thoughts about myself and my life. Ive thought about ending it. So I get it. Yes I have bipolar but thats not all I am. Its hard. It really is. Still it doesnt mean life is pathetic. Ok when your depressed you think life is lousy. I will admit that one.
Avatar n tn I was going to take the Lamictal with the Geodon, and and only take the Geodon long enough to get me to the theraputic dose of lamictal. However, the Geodon made me really hyper and irritable (at only 20 mg), and gave me a ravenous appetite. So now I'm trying a very small dose of seroquel with the Lamictal. And yes, the dr. I'm seeing is a psychatrist who specialises in eating disorders. I love my family doc.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
Avatar f tn So, My daughter has bipolar, we've tried a few medications. Abilify caused massive wieght gain - so we've switched to Geodon. She's been taking the Geodon for over a yr now and we've had this problem that I can't seem to change with anyother variable.... thus I'm asking if anyone else has this issue with Geodon.
Avatar n tn According to the manufactuer many of the symtoms you are experiencing could be from the Geodon. I suggest you contact your doctor immediately and express your concerns to him/her. There are many alternatives available that do not cause these side effects and remember that everyone is different, so side effects are often different for each person. So another medication may not be as difficult for you and sometimes initial side effects fade after taking the medication for awhile. Good Luck!
Avatar m tn She was diagnosed with Hypothyrodism and told to get off the Geodon because it causes weight gain and possibly Diabeties (he was pretty upset that she was taking Geodon and believes she's been mis-diagnosed). Sure enough, she's pre-diabetic and now also taking Byetta and Metformin. All these medications really have me worried. She's now experiencing diarrhea frequently and stomach pain often lately.
685321 tn?1230951152 so i have been diagnosed with severe anxiety and depression. i only get depressed when i am severly anxious. i constantly worry and dwell over one thought. i usually dwell until i get an answer! i have recently developed floaters, but have been told that is because of anxiety, they're annoying as heck! anyways i recently went into the hospital (state hospital) and lied about being suicidal because i thought i was losing my mind!!
Avatar f tn I have recently been taking Geodon and Clonadine for anxiety and depression. I am extremely short of breath the last day or 2 and its getting worse. My doctor is only in two days a week and hasn't called me back. I feel like I literally cant breathe. I cannot get enough air in. Anyone know if this is from the medication?
192368 tn?1224204130 I've gone through the same kind of bipolar depression and geodon didnt help at all, it just me really hungry and sleep for 18 hours after each 40 mg dose... seroquel does work but stay at a low dosage or better yet lamictal is supposed to have antidepressant features.
Avatar m tn Major side effects of Geodon are listed below and if encountered you should stop taking the medication and contact your doctor at once: -dizziness, feeling light-headed, fainting, fast or pounding heartbeat; -fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats; -tremor (uncontrolled shaking), restless muscle movements in your eyes, tongue, jaw, or neck; -agitation, hostility, confusion; -increased thirst or urination, weakness, extreme hunger; or -penis erection that is
Avatar f tn She’s been on psychotropic medications for over 20 years now (starting with Stelazine, has also taken several other psychotropic medications, and finally has been on Geodon for the past 5 years). This year she developed tardive dyskinesia of the jaw/mouth and also respiratory dyskinesia. Her neurologist wants her to get off the Geodon and onto Clozaril. Her psychiatrist has been slowly weaning her off the Geodon and slowly increasing the Clozaril.
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
Avatar f tn ve been on it and i had to stop taking it because of restless arms and legs and very irritable and i could not sleep . I know that one guy on here is on it and he is doing really well on it .
Avatar f tn I'm also taking it as an antipsoychotic and antidepressant..The hallucinations just recently started and I can feel myself getting down..I don't want to end up like I did last time when I had a major depression episode. I've been mostly manic lately and that's when I see and hear things. I just took my first dose this morning and I'm really really hoping that this medicine willl help. Thanks for your input.
Avatar n tn Hmm, I've never heard of anyone being "mildly bipolar". Manic depression is typically traumatic with the moods and depression-which is why it's very debilitating and like the 2nd biggest disorder that qualifies for receiving disability. I'm with your doc, your probably just depressed.
Avatar m tn I remember Geodon made me manic and irritable and I don't do well on it. Everyone reacts differently to every medication and there are other choices as regards antipsychotics. Speak to her psychiatrist about this.
719785 tn?1232901518 I agree completely with ILADCOCATE. I have (and currently) been off and on Geodon for a long time. It is a life saver for me. But I also take other medications as well, including several mood stablizers. Lamictal is great, Lithium. Call the doc and try to demand a sooner appointment. If it takes that long to see the doc, maybe there is someone else out there. My pdoc allows me to call him anytime if something suddenly comes up.
Avatar n tn When I weaned myself off, I fell into a deep depression and had to find myself a new dr. I started Topamax and Wellbutrin, but the Wellbutrin is making my thoughts and heart race. So I have to go off. The Topamax is making me foggy, so I'll have to lower my dose. The dr. is recommending that I go on Abilify, but I'm terrified of weight gain. (I'm bulimic). I did take the 2 mg.
