Geodon and bipolar disorder

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon and bipolar disorder

geodon

Avatar m tn I don't have Bipolar 1 but Geodon helps my depression for sure along with of course my psychosis since it's an atypical antipsychotic. It's FDA approved to treat Bipolar mania and my therapist told me even though it's not FDA approved to treat depression it still has a mood stabilizing effect. It might not be working right for you as medications work differently for everyone.
1201916 tn?1277603095 It works better than Geodon did for me but I take it for a psychotic disorder rather than a mood disorder but bipolar disorder can have psychotic symptoms and every medicine works differently for each person.
Avatar f tn Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
Avatar f tn Which is worse bipolar one or two. And has anyone taken geodon. If so what side effects did you have.
2010625 tn?1329372056 All of what I was feeling was a side effect from the Geodon called akathisia. I was not manic the restless feeling and the anxiety was a result of the askathsia.
Avatar m tn So I'm taking 40mg of Geodon for bipolar, though no psychotic symptoms. Now I know bipolar alone should deter me from taking mushrooms, and honestly I'm sure it will. And I know mixing recreational drugs with psychatric meds is a bad idea. Nevertheess, I have a question concerning the interaction between Geodon and psilocybin. From what I've read, psilocybin is an agonist to the 5HT2 serotonin receptor, which I assume means that it increases serotonin.
685321 tn?1230951152 ok. i should also add that the geodon made me extremly happy and then very depressed. i've never felt like that in my life. i've never felt euphoria until i went on geodon. and i also was very angry on it. i still had massive panic attacks on it. i swear being on that pill made me bipolar. the docs also say that this "derealization" is a self-hypnotic state. that i've experienced trauma in my life and this is a coping mechanisim.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder since '95, but through a lot of research and getting completely sober I really feel that I actually have Borderline Personality Disorder with Severe Depression and Anxiety. I just got prescribed Lamictal because I've tried everything over the years and nothing works for long. I'm still on Topomax, Geodon, Prozac and Desyrel.
Avatar f tn I'm bipolar 1 and have been on 160 MG of geodon for 16 yrs and it has stopped working for me.
719785 tn?1232901518 Mood Disorder NOS(not otherwise specified) His dr put him on Geodon 40mg twice a day. He started this med on Tues. was discharged from hospital on Sat. He is still very depressed, anxious, having like panic attacks etc. Does anyone know if this is "normal" or what. I am trying to get his follow up with therapist moved up because it isn't until 3/31 and he doesn't see dr. until 4/6 I feel this is way too long to wait.
1255530 tn?1269867619 Im just wondering others personal experiences with meds and how long it took to get stable especially anyone who is rapid cycling and more manic than depressive or cycle at one time and have psychotic features all of the above. From my understanding I was diagnosed the worst form of bipolar and rapid cycling which is the hardest to treat .
Avatar n tn She said she just doesnt see any signs of bipolar and thinks im just unipolar depressive. However, she said I may be the treatment resistence type so prescribed me 25MG of lamictal to add to my 37.5mg of Effexor XR. I am supposed to take 12.5mg/day for one week then start on the full 25mg. I took the first 12.5mg last night and this morning I woke up feeling hungover, with tense twitching muscles and slight vision troubles. I felt groggy until about 3pm today.
1354001 tn?1281392593 i have bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. i was just put back on geodon wednesday. i was on it once before, but only for about 3 days. i had to stop taking it bc my second son had jus been born and it made me so sleepy and it was so hard to wake me up. well when i went to the dr wednesday, she wanted to try it again. she said the first week being on it is bad, and if i can get through that first week things will prolly get better. does anyone know if that is true?
Avatar f tn I just tapered down from Geodon and I'm completely off of it now. I was feeling panic, anxiety, depression, overall feelings of doom. My pdoc told me that he thought I was having bad side effects from the Geodon, so now I am off of it. Right now, I am taking Lamictal 400mg per day (for bipolar 1). I still feel confused, sedated, and overall just bad. I feel like I have the flu almost. This has gone on for months and I can't seem to shake it.
Avatar f tn in cases of mild bipolar depression, is it normal for lows and highs to last only a few hours, rather than days or weeks? i have occasional week-long depression periods every once in awhile, but usually the hyper feeling or the depression will only last a few hours. is that normal in mild bipolar disorder? im a teenager if that makes a difference.
Avatar n tn I am bipolar 2 with PTSD. I was on Geodon, risperdal and lithium. The geodon was added last, and the risperdal was weaning down. I took it when it was new. For a few months, I did okay with it and didn't really have any problems. It was stopped because it eventually caused perceptual,,, especially visual, disturbances all of a sudden, and I ended up misjudging the freeway and drove my car over the embankment.
1610967 tn?1314811101 I went to the pdoc yesterday and he decided to put me on 40mg of Geodon to help with my racing thoughts and slight paranoia, as well as my concentration problem. I wanted to take everything I said back (I was hoping he would up my lithium since my levels are low.). I am scared of this medicine and I was wondering if anyone else has taken it and how did it work/not work for you?
1052851 tn?1307741160 t cause diabetes or tardive dyskinesia or temporary movement disorders or weight gain and promote a fuller recovery. You are correct that Geodon and Abilify are the antipsychotics that are the least likely to cause weight gain and diabetes but it still can happen but in the coming years there will be a whole new generation of antipsychotics that will not have these side effects and its essential for people to be aware of them as well.
Avatar f tn I think Geodon is for BP patients who have equal mania and depression or more on the manic side (as opposed to Lamictal which is used for greater depressive BP). Trileptal is very similar to Tegretol - in fact, I think they are the same molecule but varied somewhat. I've read a statement from a Psychiatrist that Tegretol is always more successful for them than Trileptal is. Go to Bipolarworld - the Dr. in charge of that wrote a abstract of his experience using Tegretol vs Trileptal for BP.
454366 tn?1211245301 The key to lithium treatment is constant blood monitoring. I have my blood done every 4 months. As for liver damage, anything that you put in your body that is not a raw food, causes liver damage. Monitoring the dosage is critical to proper lithium treatment. I have been on 300mg in the a.m., and 600mg in the p.m. and my liver and thyroid are both fine. I also take (in treatment of bipolar mania) 60mg Geodon 2x's daily, 1mg Ativan 3X a day, and .25mg Xanax 3X daily (as needed).
Avatar m tn Some of the one I am familiar with are Abilify, Geodon, Depakote, Lamictal, Lithium, Remeron, Aoloft, Prozac, and many many more. You may want to post and ask for a website link to get more info. I know one site www. NAMI.org is very good and has links. I think it boils down to good old fashion research. Usually it's a combination of 2 or 3 meds to treat the different symtoms of Bipolar. Most people are not on just one med.
Avatar m tn Not being american I am not sure, in Australia ive just checked and Bipolar and the like are disqualifiers and infact would lead to a medical disability discharge according to an army nurse friend of mine I spoke to today - Any disease with the capacity for mania and or psychoses is an no no for the Aussie military so one would assume that its the same for the US Army - My friend tells me that the Australian Army requires a full medical and psych check up and access to medical records includin
Avatar f tn he/they said that he heard me crying and was trying to get to me and they wouldnt let him (it was another patient that was crying right after I had left he said it sounded just like me) it took 4 mantaince workers and 2 security guards to get him strapped down so they could give him a sedative and then the doc put him on geodon and said that he is bipolar...the 1st doc he saw said it was anxiety..
Avatar n tn I have bipolar, ptsd, severe panic disorder, and schizoaffective. Been on meds for years. Without Dr. A few months sop family Dr gave me Geodon, cymbalta and Xanax till I got new Dr. New Dr put me In hospital for 3 days and took away Xanax and added vistaril 25mg 3 times day, neurontin 300mg @ bedtime, trazodone 100mg @ bedtime and up dose to 90mg cymbalta. Getting worse so saw Dr. and up dose on trazodone and vistaril. Still not better up dose on Geodon.
Avatar n tn I have been on Wellbutrin off and on for 10 years, on Cymbalta for 4-5 years and Geodon for 4 years. I have been on Geodon 40 mg at times, but recently for the last year or so, on 20 mg. Recently, my psychiatrist bumped me up to 40 mg again. It seems like the last time I was on 40 mg, I also had anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I was just wondering if anyone else had the same experience with Geodon, since that is the only thing that has changed recently.
