Geodon and abilify

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon and abilify

geodon

Avatar f tn Any medication can sometimes take a week or two or longer to take full effect while some will take effect instantaneously. It all depends on the person of course. When I took Geodon I sometimes would "drool and stumble" figuratively for the former (felt really dumb some days) and literally for the latter (dragged my feet and sometimes felt drunk).
Avatar f tn Do serequel cause weight gain? (200 at bed time) It sure helps me sleep.Dr will replace geodon with Lamictal and tompamax. Thanks for any feed back.
642393 tn?1227032656 I've taken Abilify for yrs & love it. I have none of the side effects I had on other drugs. Try it!
Avatar f tn So, My daughter has bipolar, we've tried a few medications. Abilify caused massive wieght gain - so we've switched to Geodon. She's been taking the Geodon for over a yr now and we've had this problem that I can't seem to change with anyother variable.... thus I'm asking if anyone else has this issue with Geodon.
Avatar m tn There is Abilify of course and a new antipsychotic Saphris was just FDA approved (note it works like all current antipsychotics, the next generation ones I've posted about are years off): http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm177401.
Avatar n tn I began taking atypical antipsychotics just over a year ago, and stopped just over a month ago. I have been on Risperdal, Abilify, Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Geodon, in that order. Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia).
440120 tn?1211724496 I take Abilify and it had less side effects than the Geodon I took before it. It did cause me to gain weight however and doesn't work as good as the Geodon did in some aspects but works better in others. Abilify disrupts my sleep as well much like ILADVOCATE experienced but it also sedates me at the same time.
Avatar f tn So yesterday Abilify(2mg in am) was added to my 600mg(3002xd)Lithium, 1mg(1xd)Xanax and of course 50mg(1/2 or 1@bedtime)..Has anyone had any experience with Abilify?f it's something bad..nevermind.
Avatar n tn I have had memory and concentration problems since last July/August when I took Abilify for one month. I was also taking Klonopin at the time. Before this I was taking Geodon 120 mg. The memory was so bad that I did not understand anything after reading a page in a book. The memory and concentration has become much better but still quite bad. I believe this has a lot to do with decreasing my dose of Geodon over a few months to 10mg.
Avatar n tn I am on seroquel and abilify, and so far they havent caused any weight gain for me, or weight loss! I was on geodon at one point to, but that was a nightmare! You will have to sit back, and see what happens. If you really dont want the weight gain, then exercising should definitely help! I cant say for sure either, what the result will be!
Avatar n tn When I looked up weight gain and bipolar medications, Abilify was at the bottom of the list for weight gain, Geodon people gained the least then Abilify. I'm on 2mg. of Abilify and in the begining you tend to feel sleepy, that's why they start you on it at bedtime. I would be surprised if Abilify caused a racing heart but you definately have to tell your doc about that. I was also on Wellbutrin and had to come off because it caused to much anxiety.
Avatar f tn It is often activating though so if you have that problem you could ask your psychiatrist if you could take it in the morning. Along with Abilify and Geodon, Fanapt and Saphris are two new FDA approved antipsychotics (approved for bipolar as well) that have less of a potential for weight gain. See what happens and keep informed and discuss available options with your psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn I experienced some heart palpitations on Geodon and was taken off it. Abilify has the least risk for diabetes and is considered the safest as regards tardive conditions so that's often what they consider the best option. I understand that in cases of severe psychosis that psychiatrist consider it an option to give two antipsychotics at once but because of the ever present risk of tardive dyskinesia, its best if a person can tolerate one.
Avatar n tn His psychiatrist should change that one. Geodon can cause heart arrythmia. Abilify is much safer. Actually the Cogentin and Inderal (a blood pressure medication) might causing the memory loss but they are used to control extra-pyramidal side effects and are necccesary for that.
497950 tn?1255863927 t work for bipolar symptoms but I am a diificult case. Abilify was the only med that worked. However, I did loose weight on Geodon and for the 2st couple weeks had an usdet stomach. If this drug works for you, and you know it's trial error for us anyway, I think you'll be please with the lack of side effects. I didn't even know I was on it after a week. I had hoped it would be the drug for me because it helped me loose some weight but for me it didn't help with my bipolar.
Avatar f tn I switched between abilify(TD),respirdal, geodon to Seroquel and it was a horrible first two years my mouth and tongue tremors and body tremors
Avatar f tn An SSRI generally is of concern for someone with bipolar and can easily worsen mania. Abilify like all antipsychotics can treat it. Abilify and Geodon are activating, that is they will make a person more likely to be awake instead of being sedating. I know when I was on Geodon and Abilify they kept me up practically the whole night but they didn't make me manic. Some people find it better to take it in the morning for that reason.
Avatar m tn i hear good and bad on it..and 99% of the side effects are to sleepy?? can you funcshion on the geodon?? i dont want to hear the facts on this med..or i would look it up myself..wanting personal experience's thanks alot james p.s. how long does it take to feel better??????????????
Avatar n tn To the poster on Abilify -- you should research drugs and not just think about them because they're getting a lot of advertising. Abilify is only approved for depression when all other meds have failed. It has a high side effect profile, and is usually used for augmentation, not stand alone.
202665 tn?1248806733 Doc has thrown in another new drug - Geodone - into my mix of Cymbalta, Lamictal, Lithium, and Seroquel XR. Had a bad reaction to Abilify so I am wondering if anyone has any experiences they can share. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I don't know what the data says about Geodon but I had a similar experience. It made me manic and irritable. It was a horrible drug for me and I couldn't wait to get it out of my system. I am on Abilify and it's wonderful. I don't have any bad side effects from it and it's changed my life completely. Keep trying, you'll find the right drug, just don't stay on the wrong one.
Avatar f tn Geodon is a great mood stabilizer for many people. It has a low incidence of weight gain and very few side effects. I was on it for 4 weeks but unfortunately it didn't work for me but most people have success with it. I switched to Abilify and it works great for me!
603543 tn?1255294450 Med withdrawal is EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I was on Geodon for about two weeks and the side effects were horrible, and the withdrawal was even worse, and I had only been taking it for a short period of time. Is your doctor going to prescribe something different or are you going to attempt to go med free?
Avatar f tn aripripazole (abilify) and ziprasidone (geodon) are 2 other atypical antipsychotics like your olanzapine (zyprexa). nobody neither your pdoc can tell their effect on you, it's all trial and error everybody manifests different effect and side effect. he/she only prescribed them to you because they don't make you put on weight gain contrary to zyprexa, that's all.
