Hi. This really isn't a question, but I wanted to pass this on to you...You might already be aware, I'm not sure....but I just called my pharmacy to refill my lamictal. I do the mail order thing and get a 3 month's supply. Lamictal didn't always have a generic....not that I'm aware of...anyway...it was costing me a whopping co-pay of nearly 180 bucks. Well, there IS a generic....I know most people don't like the generics, but they have always worked for me.

Hey everyone, I thought I'd add to this to clear a few things up. (1) Lamictal works to counteract & prevent the depression phase of bipolar disorder & Depakote works to counteract & prevent the mania/hypomania phase. (2) Depakote amplifies the effect/dosage of Lamictal if they're taken together. For example, if you're taking 100mg Lamictal and 500mg Depakote, it's like you're taking 200mg Lamictal.

I am very comfortable with my life now, but am hesitant to stay on this medicine (Lamictal) my entire life. Advice? Also, a few months ago, a generic for Lamictal was released. It seems like the generic doesn't work as long as the Lamictal did. Is this possible?

I've been on Lamictal since October, and it's been a godsend to me. It is slow to titrate up to therapuedic levels - but it's done a world of good. I'm about 85-90% depression free all the time. The difference now is, I get down if something external happens, like regular folks do, everyone gets blue at times.

I've usually always take a mood stabilizer, ie. Lamictal & a anti psychotic, ie. Seroquel. I take them in combination or ill be extremely manic. I've tried depakote & the only issue was weight gain & slight hair loss. I haven't noticed many side effects w/ lamictal. I think combining lamictal w/ lithium is a good decision.

My doctor put me on it two years ago and seem to have a good affect but couldn't afford it until it went generic. I have been on it over a year ago now and its stabilized my depression. I was also on 300mg of effexor no I am on 150mg. I haven't had any side affects that I know of. I guess it works differently on different people. Yes in general its a very good option with fewer side effects than other common mood stabilizers so it all depends.

Some people are really sensitive to the differences between brand and generic or between different generic manufacturers. If they did change, try to figure out what you had before. Drugs.com has a pill identifier if you have an old one around or you can remember what it looked like.

I bet it isn't the lamictal, it's your worries and depression. living on the edge of a cliff all the time and feeling insecure makes the person concentrate less, have volatile memory especially the short one. This happens to all of us. I believe you should do something regarding your depression. Whereas it says that antidepressants worsen mania causing rapid cycling and mixed states, but most BP pts take them to be able to function.

Why are the prices on Lamictal (lamotrigine) so expensive in the US? I'll tell you why. Drug companies! My daughter is waiting for her health insurance to kick in from her job and was running low. She got 2 weeks filled at $5 a pill!!!! This is WALMART and GENERIC!!!! $5 a freaking pill!!!! I got them from a pharmacy in Canada for her for $1.05 a pill ! 60 for 105 dollars!!!!! but i would like to share this with you lamictal and trileptal do affect birth control pills and vise verse i.e. you can get pregnant using these as they reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills by 40%to 50% ,,,,,,,,,,also (which done me a great harm) the birth control pills reduce the effect of BP meds up to 50% also. i read on some site (but i cannot remember which) that birth control pills can affect most of psychiatric meds.

I have been prescribed Lamictal (taking the generic Lamotrigine) for about 3 years now for my bipolar disorder alone. I started with 25 or 50 mg to see if I'd be allegoric and develop the rash that rarely happens but can be severe. My body didn't reacted poorly to it (my mother also took it before me and was ok as well) and I was moved to 100 mg then 150 mg and now have been on 200 mg for a year and a half.

I take lamictal, lithium, and paxil...The lamictal was costing me over $300 a month, but my doctor was able to get me on the "bridges to access" program, and now my lamictal is mailed to me monthly for no cost. All in all, I would reccommend shopping for a new doc if the one you currently have is not able to take your financial situation into consideration. A sliding scale doctor is more likely to help you find cheap prescriptions as well.

That rash is life-threatening and is most definitely caused by the Lamictal since you just doubled your dose. Lamictal increases are supposed to be VERY gradual. I am sorry you have to deal with this especially considering how well the Lamictal was working for you before.
