Gastroenteritis vs appendicitis

Common Questions and Answers about Gastroenteritis vs appendicitis

gastroenteritis

Avatar f tn I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left. I am really in pain but i am taking my meds as described. Does this sound like viral gastroenteritis to you? I am in such severe pain just laying here typing this and barely moving.. Please help. Thank you.
Avatar m tn It hurts to walk and I must sit down with great care, I have performed some of the tests for appendicitis such as lying supine with my right leg bent and pushing over to the left...this results in much pain. Having been an EMT for many years I understand this could be appendicitis, however, I am confused about the pain free lapses. I live in the middle of no where with poor hospitals about 2 and a half hours away.
Avatar f tn I dint think they treat for appendicitis. Although isnt appendicitis ridiculously painful? Mine is a cramping in my pelvis and alot of discomfort and bloating in my abdomen. Another 2lb gone overnight! A total of 16lb loss in 4 weeks!
Avatar n tn pylori, Could be chronic gastroenteritis, could be appendicitis...doubtfull though, could be diabetes, could be lymphonodular hyperplasia...but doubtfull, id go with other infections that the doc might now have ruled out look on web md on the symptom checker see what it says...but look up H. pylori...good possibilty...
Avatar f tn I went to an aftercare and was told it could be appendicitis so they sent me to the er. The pain just kept getting worse and worse even at the er. They gave me a dose of hydrocodone and it did not even touch the pain. By now I was up to about an 8/10 for pain level. Then as the hour went on my pain became a 12/10 to the point where I was literally moaning and crying in pain in my lower right side all the way around to my back. They gave me two does of dilated at it did not touch it.
Avatar n tn If it is your right LQ then i would suggest heading to your nearest Emergency dept., as appendicitis can be dangerous. Before applying heat packs and/or massage it would be wise to rule out any internal problems such as perforation and/or bleeding, as applying either will exacerbate said conditions. As you have described several symptoms that could be related to this. have you noticed a decrease in bowel movements? Blood in your stool? nausea? Lethargy? Systemic weakness?
Avatar f tn I’m worried that I have appendicitis. My pain is in my lower abdomen, right above the groin area. I still am able to walk and eat and stuff, but I’m still worried. As per Everydayhealth, medicinenet, Abdominal pain is common in a lot of illnesses, such as irritable bowel syndrome, gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections (UTI), and pelvic inflammatory disease, an infection of a woman's reproductive organs. My symptoms are similar, I am totally confused. I need Help?
Avatar f tn I am not a doctor but it sounds as if it could be one of many things from appendicitis to an ovarian cyst... there is NO way of knowing unless the proper testing is done!! Good Luck, I hope you feel better and please keep us informed of how things are going.
Avatar f tn It lasted for about 2 weeks and took 2 packs of Picolax to sort it. Then I got Gastroenteritis following this just to top it all off. Now, my bowel movements seem OK but my abdominal pains have changed now. It feels a bit like when you get a "stitch", that kind of pain but all over my tummy. When I put pressure on my tummy it hurts even more and feels like my insides are being crushed. I just wondered if anyone else experienced this or had any suggestions?

Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
Avatar n tn Hello Doctor Pho. Here's a timeline of attacks of pain that have been diagnosed as diverticulitis. Treatment not working. Wondering if misdiagnosed. Any alternative diagnoses, suggestions? 1. 6 months ago Had attack of acute of pain in lower right abdomen. Thought it was a very bad gas cramp. Pain subsided in about 2 hours. Did not see doctor. 2. Dec 15/08 Had attack of acute pain in lower right abdomen. Pain was severe. I felt nauseated, double over unable to stand. Lasted for an hour.
Avatar n tn The condition typically occurs mainly in children and teens and can often mimic the signs and symptoms of appendicitis. Unlike appendicitis, however, mesenteric adenitis is seldom serious and clears on its own in a few days or weeks. It's suggested that it typically starts due to a virus, however, it can also have bacterial causes and it's when the cause is bacterial that it can be more problematic.
Avatar f tn On day 7 of a severe case of gastroenteritis. Everything seems to have calmed down, but once I try and eat anything stomach cramps start, which are unbearable. Sometimes followed by diarrhoea. Is this normal after a severe case of gastroenteritis or do I need to see my G.P again?
Avatar f tn I went to the emergency room thinking that I had appendicitis but I was diagnosed with ovarian cyst and gastroenteritis. I recently went to see a gastroenteritis doctor and had to do an endoscopy and colonoscopy test. I finished both of the procedure today and got the results back with normal duodenum, Normal stomach, a hiatus hernia was found, esophagitis seen and a normal colon. My doctor did a biopsy but I am not sure what or where he did the biopsy for.
Avatar m tn Hi, the common causes for vomiting are gastroenteritis (infection), gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, systemic infections, appendicitis, intracranial hypertension, hepatitis, eating disorders, inner ear disorders, and certain medications. But since his blood tests, endoscopy and ultrasound reports are normal certain other causes need to be considered. Lung infections like pneumonia and bronchitis can irritate the diaphragm and cause vomiting.
1800585 tn?1315853521 Have you found anything that makes the pain better or worse (positioning, empty vs full stomach, etc.)? Start with your regular doctor, however, you may need to see a gastroenterologist - for which you may or may not require a referral from your regular doctor - depending on the gastro doc and your insurance. How long ago was your Csection and gallbladder surgeries?
Avatar m tn showed that I had borderline appendicitis due to the appendicitis not filling with the contrast fully and the mesenteric lymph nodes of the area being “shoddy”. I was given Cipro and Flagyl for two weeks to see if that would fight the infection. After an ultrasound, they found my appendix healed completely. While the yellow explosive diarrhea has returned to coming 2-3 times/week (rather than the daily occurrences) the pain in my lower right abdomen and back continued at the same intensity.
Avatar n tn What you describe could be a number of things, including pancreatitis, appendicitis, diverticulitis, ... or something else altogether. This set of symptoms doesn't seem to be the type one can afford to ignore. Pls see a doc/urgent care right away. Hope you'll write again to let us know how you're doing.
Avatar n tn As far as I know, the most apparent symptom of appendicitis (inflammation of the appendix) is a dull pain in the stomach on the right side, that moves to severe lower right abdominal pain. http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/digestive-diseases-appendicitis The above website explains different symptoms that could accompany appendicitis.
