Common Questions and Answers about Gastroenteritis treatment probiotics

gastroenteritis

Avatar n tn Probiotics helped me. I drank kefir and ate bio yoghurt.
Avatar m tn However, shooting pain and diarrhea can be due to viral or bacterial gastroenteritis or stomach flu as well. I suggest, you get stool examined for infection. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation (probiotics) and yoghurt with your meals, after giving the stool sample for examination Drink plenty of fluids (clear soups, water, ORS in water, lemonade). Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers, banana, rice, peeled apple, etc.
Avatar n tn Oh, and I forgot to mention I had a cast iron stomach before this "IBS". Always take probiotics, was always regular, great appetite, could eat ANYTHING!! And I'm wondering if there is an immune system issue that's making it hard for me to "clear" infectious diseases - I typically have 10 or more colds and flus each year, which last for weeks or months, resulting in sinus, lung, and ear infections, even after the simple cold.
693811 tn?1245871706 I have had IBS for 6 years, and have been handling it this last year with probiotics, zinc, vitamin D , tumeric and fish oil, besides my usual "green" multiple and kelp meal for trace minerals. I was seeing success, and then in a binge of candy on sale, caused what I think was gallstones. I did the liver flush, and used castor oil packs (as well as internally) for pain, and added apples and apple pectin and "stone ZFree" as part of my program.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm unable to post to the general Gastroenterology forum. My basic question is this: Have you ever seen cases of IBS present with one-sided flank pain rather than abdominal pain? Stats/History: Healthy, active 34-year-old female, 5'6" 135 pounds. 2 prior C-sections, Hashimoto's disease (well controlled for 2+ years with Levoxyl), mild asthma Background: I traveled to Mexico (Cabo) in mid-October. I had traveler's diarrhea for a few days.
Avatar f tn i been to a few different doctors and told them everything and gave them the name of the medication of clindamycin because thats when all these symptoms had started they told me to take probiotics and vitamins. i been taking them every day and nothing has gotten better the doctor seemed to not to believe me about anything or something so i stopped going to the doctor and been living with this problem for a year just trying to ignore it but it has caused me so much anxiety and im very worried.
Avatar n tn s Disease or one of the Irritable Bowel / Gastroenteritis conditions. Night sweats, Nausea, Abdominal Pain are also associated with these conditions.
Avatar f tn The pain described by you could be due to gastroenteritis, which is infection of the intestines. Amoebiasis is another infection, which can cause similar symptoms. Other common causes are constipation and indigestion. So, don't worry and discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time. Regards.
87651 tn?1259602403 You're just wasting money if you take probiotics while taking nystatin and/or antibiotics, because those meds kill the probiotics. It's usually following treatment with antibiotics, particularly long-term or repeated uses, and nystatin is just another type of antibiotic, that kills off the beneficial bacteria and creates the perfect opportunity for candida yeast to move in and get nice and comfy and hard to dislodge.
974371 tn?1424653129 Possibly. When I first started taking probiotics I produced enough gas to 'power Los Angeles,' or at least that was what it felt like. It subsided over a few days and since then I've been fine with them. I chalked it up to the good (the probiotics) were fighting the evil (whatever was in my system) and awaited the 'end of the war.' Having said that, understand one brand may not be the best choice for all individuals.
Avatar f tn r n they did blood work n a ultrasound which came back normal. I was think gallbladder stones idk.. So doctor diagnose me with gastroenteritis prescribe me pain killers. N next morning with the dull pain that comes n goes. Ouch! Is it normal???? Im scared im praying to god to please let it not be nothing else..
Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
Avatar m tn If you feel that she has adequate quality of life from her point of view and that she would want to continue living if the choice were hers to make, then I would maybe try some something radical, like discontinue all treatment and just see what happens. If I were going to go that route, I would just supportive care. It's not impossible that a lot of treatment can make a dog sicker.
Avatar n tn Hi, You can also try taking probiotics. They are available in tablet form OTC. Probiotics are healthy bacteria and help in fighting infections. Yoghurt is also rich in healthy bacteria. Do keep us posted!
3093770 tn?1389739126 It's fine to use probiotics during treatment. I checked with my hepatic NP while on treatment.
Avatar n tn Gut Dysbiosis, Leaky Gut Syndrome, Candida, viral gastroenteritis (stomach flu) food poisoning and parasites are all suspect. Most of these have something in common, which is bacteria overgrowth. Very low carb diet, peppermint oil supplements (enteric coated caps) and high quality probiotics usually help in such cases. Also Extra Virgin Coconut Oil 2T daily will help as it is anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-viral and anti-microbial.
Avatar n tn They told me to stop taking the antibiotics because they suspected viral gastroenteritis, and told me to have actimel and probiotics. A few days later I was no longer vomiting, but diarrhea continued for another 2 weeks and I developed a blinding pain in my left side around my rib cage, I assume torn and pulled muscles from vomiting so much. I returned to work on September 9th. I wasn't 100% and I was very exhausted still.
1873696 tn?1405377410 I took my puppy labs to the vet to get their first vaccines (they are 8 weeks old) The Dr did a fecal exam and said they had roundworms and hookworms, so he prescribed a three day at home treatment and told me to bring them in in a week. On Thursday had to take one of them to the vet's office, he was vomiting, no appetite and sad. Dr. tested for parvo (negative) CBC with high wbc (33)no fever.
Avatar f tn Despite repeated visits with the same problem,my doctor describes it as gastroenteritis and sends me on my way. I have used probiotics in the past and take natural yoghurt daily. I took a lot of antibiotics for acne in my teens and early 20s and was also prescribed the pill for my acne and was on it for a long time. I imagine these have all contributed to my problems today. I have taken caprilyic acid for candida and reduced my consumption of grains also.
Avatar n tn If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.

Avatar f tn Yes, the antibiotics will kill off good and bad flora in the GI tract. They will also kill off the probiotics if the antibiotics and probiotics are taken together. Many are suggesting probiotics be taken concurrently with taking any form of antibiotics as long as they are taken at least 2-3 hours after taking the antibiotics, and the course of treatment with probiotics should be taken long after the antibiotics are discontinued.
