My son has Inflammatory Bowel Disease but his diet will be different than a liquid one I really believe that the OTC antacid and it's effectiveness depends on the person. Rolaids seem to work the best for me. But 5 years ago Tums worked better. Be careful taking an antacid. There are many medications that the antacid will reduce it's effectiveness or is not recommend at all.
Avatar f tn Hello, I cannot confirm without examination, but it sounds like gastroenteritis. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.Dizziness is caused by loss of water and electrolyte imbalance because of vomitings. Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (ie, bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken. Antimicrobial therapy is indicated for some bacterial gastroenteritis infections.
Avatar n tn Hello, Diarrhea and vomitings can be provoked either by an intestinal infection or by illness somewhere else in the body. When they begin suddenly, the problem is usually gastroenteritis (or stomach flu), most often caused by a virus and sometimes by bacteria and parasites. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.
Avatar f tn php You could also have your symptoms and pancreatitis and have elevated lipase. Sometimes a bland diet will help such as the brat diet. This is banana, rice, applesauce, and toast. Avatar n tn Blood transfusions are safe these days, you're stuck on the fear of a transfusion based on incidents where people acquired HIV early on in the epidemic. The blood supply is safe, your daughter has no HIV concerns. You need to listen to your daughter's doctor and seek some professional help for yourself to help you move on. It sounds like she has a stomach flu, which is in NO way related to HIV.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
Avatar f tn If symptoms are acute it can even be due to an infection, gastroenteritis. So, if your symptoms persist consult your doctor for an evaluation. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn What should I be looking for regarding symptoms of this disease? He is one of two cats abandened after a fire. The other is a american short hair female. The female was not diagnosed with the disease at two years of age and was vaccinated.
Avatar f tn Oh boy, that stinks. I've had gastroenteritis. I went on the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast). What about broth like chicken noodle soup, you eat the broth? Smoothie? If you are recovering, start back on food slowly. Most important thing is hydration. Drink a lot of fluids. Food can come back slowly and we are fine. But we have to stay hydrated. Go with bland.
Avatar n tn I spent 4 days in the hospital with electrolytes out of balance due to dehydration from uncontrollable diahrrea and vomiting; diagnosed as Acute Gastroenteritis. A year ago I began having intermittent bouts of vomiting bile every few months. Have been on all PPI's and Acid Reflux controlled pretty well but still have vomiting episodes. What's your recommendation? This leaves me wiped out for a couple of days with tenderness in stomach and right abdomen.
693811 tn?1245871706 My husband recently had a bout of gastroenteritis and he had the same pain, but he also had N/V which I have not had. I did have chills, which are relieved by vitamin C (several grams per day). The hospital I work in has had a very slow moving gastroenteritis going through patients and staff. I thought I had that already and it was just gut pain and was relieved with much yogurt. This virus seems to have a long incubation period. It's nothing like Norwalk.
Avatar m tn Hi My husband has had Gastroenteritis for the last two and a half years. He has had his downs and has had his ups with this. Avatar n tn He told me that I have a mild case of colits due to an intestinal bug going around. He told me to go on a liquid diet for 72 hours but to call if it gets worse or I get a fever. Did your doctor suggest an anibiotic? Did he/she ask you to moderate your diet? I'm trying to figure out which over the counter pain medication I can take if I get a headache.
Avatar f tn Viral gastroenteritis symptoms may appear 1-3 days after you are infected and can range from mild to severe. Symptoms usually last just a day or two, but occasionally they may persist as long as 10 days. Because the symptoms are similar, it is easy to confuse diarrhea caused by viruses with diarrhea caused by bacteria (e.g., Clostridium difficile, salmonella, and E. coli) or parasites (e.g., giardia). If your symptoms persist, see your doctor for further workup and management.
Avatar m tn AIDS acute period will appear similar to the symptoms of acute gastroenteritis? Symptoms lasted for about four days, infusion improvement in 3 days. It is the acute phase of AIDS symptoms?
Avatar m tn Now for the last couple month I am having colon spasm daily that are horrifying. I am thinking of adding Konsyl to my diet (gradually). Has anyone tried this and did it help? Thanks!

Avatar n tn Hi It could be a case of food poisoning or just a case of bacterial or viral gastroenteritis. Please drink plenty of fluids and take a light diet. Replenish the salts in your diet. Consult your doctor. You may need to take some tests like stool and urine examination. Please watch your urine color. A urine examination will detect any loss of blood however microscopic. In case there is blood loss, it will need to be looked into. Generalized infection can at times cause blood in urine.
Avatar n tn Hello, The vomitings and diarrhea can be due to gastroenteritis but for the ovarian pain, premenstrual symptoms can cause such pain. It can be avoided by taking a balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins and minerals. Avoid excess caffeine, alcohol and smoking. Indulge in mild exercises everyday. You may take some pain killers like acetaminophen for pain relief. But of problem persists please consult a gynaecologist.
Avatar f tn But its specifically on my side, not my back or tummy. Its been a week since symptoms started. Symptoms include a constant achy feeling in the area, sharp pains in the area when i lay down or move positions or laugh or cough. I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left.
Avatar f tn Let me preface this by giving some facts: I am a 35 year old male. I have no history of GI problems. Two years ago, I passed a minor kidney stone. I am a hypochondriac, and tend to obsess over cancer. Nonetheless, back in December, I had a weeklong GI-type of infection. It actually started with a four day person of constipation. Then, I had diarrhea for a week, as well as two days of the "stomach bug," or gastroenteritis.
