gastroenteritis

693811 tn?1245871706 My husband recently had a bout of gastroenteritis and he had the same pain, but he also had N/V which I have not had. I did have chills, which are relieved by vitamin C (several grams per day). The hospital I work in has had a very slow moving gastroenteritis going through patients and staff. I thought I had that already and it was just gut pain and was relieved with much yogurt. This virus seems to have a long incubation period. It's nothing like Norwalk.
Avatar n tn The hospital shouldn't have discharged her with symptoms like that. You need to go back or get an emergency appointment with your doctor. The abdomen is tough, because sometimes pain refers to different areas, and there's a lot of different structures that could be having problems. An intestinal blockage can cause severe pain. Gastroenteritis can cause a burning sensation (been there, done that). There's the appendix. There's the liver, which is on the right side.
Avatar f tn So doctor diagnose me with gastroenteritis prescribe me pain killers. N next morning with the dull pain that comes n goes. Ouch! Is it normal???? Im scared im praying to god to please let it not be nothing else..
Avatar m tn Do you have any pain that could be kidney stones? Or, did they do an ultrasound of your kidneys? Just in case one is causing this ? Just a thought.
Avatar f tn I see a uro-gyn pretty frequently, since I have gynecological issues that intertwine with urological issues (endometriosis on the urinary tract was discovered March 2011). Recently I have been having what my doctor describes as kidney pain; it's in my mid back on the left side, in my left groin, left mid to lower abdomen (shooting or cramping usually) and often in my left side in my waist as well. It comes in waves and really hurts!
Avatar f tn Incidentally, if you suspect a kidney problem (which you likely do since you came to a kidney forum), your pain pills should not be Motrin or Advil (ibuprofen) since ibuprofen can cause kidney damage. Tylenol is a better choice (but don't go overboard on it either). Good luck!
87651 tn?1259602403 Duplicated right renal collecting system ispresent. A nonobstructing tiny nephrolith is present in left kidney. A subcentimeter hypodensity is also noted in the upper pole left kidney, there are no calicified gallstones. There is apparent mural thickening of several pproximal small bowle loops, a nonspecific finding. This may represent enteritis which could be infectious or inflammatory in nature. There is no bowel dilatation. A duodenal diverticulum is also noted. So...
1974739 tn?1326022445 Make sure they take blood for testing and get them to check for kidney function. It could be many things other than gastroenteritis, and you need to know exactly what it is that is ailing him, otherwise how can it be treated. In the meantime, get hold of some Green Tripe from your pet store (they sell it in tinned form as well as frozen blocks, but the frozen blocks need cooking).
Avatar m tn Hello, From your symptoms, it looks like some kidney and GI problem like gastroenteritis, infection of the GI tract or irritable bowel syndrome. Get a complete blood count, urine examination, kidney function tests like urea and creatinine and stool examination done to rule out these causes.
Avatar n tn I am a 44 year old woman who had a kidney stone about 10 years ago. Once it passed I still had blood in my urine so a cystoscopy was performed (results normal). I recently bought some reagent strips to measure the blood in my urine and it showed trace amounts of hemolyzed blood. I am currently fighting a case of gastroenteritis, is there any connection and should I go back to the Dr?
Avatar f tn You could try taking plenty of fluids to keep yourself adequately hydrated and some OTC anti spasmodics for the pain. If the pain is severe, of you have dizziness or blood in stools or the diarrhoea does not seem to get better in 4-5 days, it is advised to see a primary care physician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn My daughter is 14 months old and she has has watery diarrhea and vomitting. When she was born she was perfectly healthy, but once I had to return to work I began to give her formula and that's when she began to have these complications. She began to have watery diarrhea and vomit. I took her to the doctor and they said she had gastroenteritis, but it's been a while now and she is still the same? Does anyone know what could possibly be wrong? Thank you.
Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.
Avatar n tn Hello! I seem to have unfortunately caught gastroenteritis. I was given Ondansentron and it helped immensely. However, I can't sleep. I'm so wired and my stomach still hurts but luckily, no side effects. Is this normal? Is it the gastroenteritis or the drug?
Avatar f tn Hi, what your doctor said is true. Only when the diverticula are inflamed they cause pain. The pain described by you could be due to gastroenteritis, which is infection of the intestines. Amoebiasis is another infection, which can cause similar symptoms. Other common causes are constipation and indigestion. So, don't worry and discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him next time. Regards.
Avatar f tn Hi. Since the end of February, I've been having sharp pain in my abdomen. The pain first started at my appendix area. I had all the symptoms of appendicitis. I went to emergency and they ruled out appendicitis. I had Constipation, gastroenteritis and IBS. Now, the gastroenteritis is gone, but the rest isn't. I still have the same symptoms from the beginning. My appendix area feels bloated. It now hurts so bad, I have difficulty and pain standing, walking or even sitting.
Avatar n tn Your persisting symptoms of nausea and abdominal pain could indicate a viral gastroenteritis. The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Kidney disorders too produce colicky and sharp pain. Sometimes anxiety with flatulence can cause this pain. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.
Avatar n tn s Disease or one of the Irritable Bowel / Gastroenteritis conditions. Night sweats, Nausea, Abdominal Pain are also associated with these conditions.
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing an itching/tingling sensation in the head of my penis. It feels more like an urge to urinate though. I have also been experiencing pain in my testicles. I also have noticed that when passing a bowel movement, sometimes when i force it out, semen comes out of my penis. I am sexually active, and my gf had a yeast infection not too long ago. Could this have possibly gotten transferred to me? I am curious as to what this may be. I do not believe it to be an STD.
Avatar n tn It has been almost two yrs this pain started. Doctors have ruled out kidney stones, gall bladder. I cannot lay on my left side because it makes the pain worse. Sitting is very uncomfortable. It feels like a deep pain. It is annoying. Gastro Doctor this morning said it is probably related to liver and linings. So when I lay on my left side, my liver moves or pulls. To diagnose this, they would need to insert a scope in my liver. But says that this type of pain only occurs with women!
Avatar n tn It is important to rule out appendicitis in your case if you are talking about right lower quadrant (hence it is important to get an ultrasound or CT abdomen). Other than this UTI, kidney infection, gastroenteritis also needs to be ruled out. Drink plenty of fluids (clear soups, water, ORS in water, lemonade). Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers, banana, rice, peeled apple, etc.
Avatar f tn They sent me home with hydrocodone and diagnosed me with gastroenteritis which I am concerned about because I have never had pain that bad nor did I have diarrhea or vomiting. The only reason I vomited in the er was because I was in so much pain. I am really worried that I was misdiagnosed because I have never had pain like that before and I have had kidney stones, C-section, and even had uterus contractions after the c sections and nothing has ever hurt that bad.
