gastroenteritis

Avatar n tn Hi there, Ondansetron is used for treating vomiting. Constipation, dizziness and headache are the most commonly reported side effects associated with its use. These symptoms will ware off once you have stopped using the medication. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. I hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
1128163 tn?1273183419 Water will not replenish what your son is losing thru the vomiting and watery BM's. You need to give him orange juice and/or gatorade which wil replenish his electrolytes. But if he isn't keeping anything down and has the bad BM's this will not benefit him! Every virus is different, some are 24 hrs, some 48hrs, others a week, it all depends on what he has. He has to be getting dehydrated by now, so I would insist that they give him something for this.
Avatar f tn (The hollow right under your ribs, in your upper stomach) Other symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fever, malaise and general aches and pains. For most people symptoms subside within 1-3 days but you're contagious much longer. You can still pass the virus through your stool for 2 weeks or so and it can survive on surfaces for a long time too. Just take it easy, eat bland foods and rest a lot.
Avatar n tn If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.
Avatar n tn my twelve year old son has been vomiting for the past week. He says he feels fine and he has a regular appetite. The only other symptom he has if that he is hurting on his right lower side. He has had no fever. The doctor checked his blood and urine this morning and said it all looks fine. Of course they won't keep him at school when he is vomiting. What could possibly be wrong that needs to be checked that the Dr. is missing?
Avatar n tn But your persisting symptoms of vomiting could also indicate a viral gastroenteritis. The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. In the meantime take oral fluids. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn t really a common ARS symptom (though fever and muscle aches are). The vomiting and abnormal bowel movements seem more in line with gastroenteritis to me, but I'm not sure about the fever, muscle aches, and chills. I did eat a caesar salad about twenty-four hours before the onset of the illness, so I guess it could conceivably be salmonella poisoning. Do you agree that gastroenteritis is more likely than ARS? Thanks for your input.
Avatar f tn I have emetophobia. I have since taken two more zofran and Pepto. No vomiting or diarrhea, but I did wake up with a bad headache. I haven’t eaten a lot lately. Does this mean I will be sick for a longer period of time? How will the virus shed?
Avatar n tn Hi Dr HHH, I'd posted a question a few months ago in regards to my daughter. She has a blood transfusion (4 units) and I was concerned about possible HIV exposure. After being told by you no worries because everything is tested thoroughly now but if I was still worried to talk to her Dr. I spoke with her Dr. about my concerns. He tested her at 3.5 weeks and it was negative. He also told me no worries he was 99.
Avatar n tn I spent 4 days in the hospital with electrolytes out of balance due to dehydration from uncontrollable diahrrea and vomiting; diagnosed as Acute Gastroenteritis. A year ago I began having intermittent bouts of vomiting bile every few months. Have been on all PPI's and Acid Reflux controlled pretty well but still have vomiting episodes. What's your recommendation? This leaves me wiped out for a couple of days with tenderness in stomach and right abdomen.
Avatar n tn t break cause I checked it and the semen was inside, but 5 days later I had diarrhea, vomiting and fever that last 48 hours. I went to the hospital and the doctor after some research and a typical blood test told me that it is a gastroenteritis . Please help me cause since then I can't sleep , I am always thiniking of my family, my son and I am going to lose my mind.
Avatar f tn I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left. I am really in pain but i am taking my meds as described. Does this sound like viral gastroenteritis to you? I am in such severe pain just laying here typing this and barely moving.. Please help. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Your persisting symptoms of pain, nausea and vomiting could indicate a viral gastroenteritis. The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. Please consult your primary care physician for further evaluation. In the meantime take oral fluids and OTC acetaminophen for the pain. Regards.
Avatar n tn Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Take something for fever like acetaminophen. Watch out for a day or two with this treatment. If it does not help, consult a doctor. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi It could be a case of gastroenteritis (gut infection) which has led to diarrhea and vomiting. The main symptoms of gastroenteritis are diarrhea and vomiting although one or the other symptom may predominate. If the symptoms persist (>1 day), worsen or lead to other complications you should consult your doctor who could order some tests such as stool examination etc. In the meanwhile take rest and drink lots of fluids to avoid dehydration.
Avatar f tn Since I gave birth to my first child 4 1/2 months ago via c-section I have had epsiodes of vomiting and diarrhea.Several years ago I had the same problem but everything went aways once my gallbladder was removed. The episodes of vomiting and diarrhea last anywhere from hours to 2 days. I have recorded what I am eating to see if it is a food allergy but only thing i have found in the past week is butter makes me sick but not other dairy products.

Avatar f tn i have been vomiting a few times and feeling dizzy.....also my stomach hurts really bad (even though im not on)... this has been happening quite alot and has made me miss out in school. i did ask my parents if i could go to the doctors but they said there is nothing worng with me... im really worried about this and would like to know if anyone knows what could be wrong with me...
Avatar f tn Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment. If still the symptoms persist, then you may need an antibiotic for the gut and would need to see a doctor. If after the antibiotic course too the symptoms persist, then there is a chance that you have developed either IBS or some food intolerance. In that case you would need to consult a gastroenterologist. Please go through as advised.
Avatar n tn Lung infections like pneumonia and bronchitis can irritate the diaphragm and cause vomiting. Pancreatitis is another entity diagnosed by blood tests and ultrasound. Renal stones can cause vomiting and pain. The stones may be too small to be picked up by an ultrasound. Inflammatory bowel diseases can also be the culprits. Discuss these options with your doctor when you happen to meet him. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn You probably had a mild case of food poisoning with your system throwing out all the disagreeable stuff from your stomach or it could also be gastroenteritis.
