Gastroenteritis and pepto

Common Questions and Answers about Gastroenteritis and pepto

gastroenteritis

for the past year, I've had chronic diarrhea, nausea, severe belching (no bloating though), nausea and vomiting off and on, low grade fevers, and my stomach makes horrible, loud watery gurgling noises all day. It all started with an "intestinal flu" that EVERYONE in my workplace contracted last March, (right after a co-worker's dog suffered an "intestinal infection" which cleared with metronidazole.).
Hello, Your symptoms are suggestive of gastroenteritis or food poisoning. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.
My husband and I ate pre packaged salad on Friday evening. after roughly 10 minutes we both started to feel sick. It is Sunday and nothing has changed. We both have bad stomach cramps, BMs every few minutes. we tried to eat yesterday but nothing will stay in us. We have tried Imodium, pepto and nothing is working. Today my lower back is killing me on the left side. I am trying to figure out when enough is enough and we need to go to an ER. Today has been all clear liquids.
Hi adayinapril, There was one time 2 years ago when my husband and my live-in employee (24 years old young and healthy) came to work with me feeling this abdominal pain later progressing to vomit and flushed face. I went to buy Pepcid AC and <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>pepto</span> Bismo and made them take it. No results but more vomit. Both of them just sat down and said they felt so weak and dead that they just couldn't lift their arm up. They were also too weak to walk or stand up.
I had the same thing with the Yaz. I was on Yasmin and switched to Yaz and promptly gained about 5 or more pounds. No problems at all with Yasmin, and I was on it for 5 or more years. I still work out like I did on Yasmin, and I've never eaten a lot, although, the Yaz does make me hungry all the time, and I can't seem to get rid of this bloating. I spot constantly and cramp. I have another friend that is the same way.
12 yr. old son threw-up last night a couple of times and once with a surprise diarrhea. We had to fly out this morning. I gave him pepto-bismol chewables. Which seem to work. He only got sick on the plane once. A few hours ago he had a large very loose blackish green stool. He does not have a fever. He went from being pale to flush in the cheeks. When should I be worried? Thank you.
The foul, sulfuric rotten egg/bad red wine burps and flatulence (and diarrhea) are mortifying. I have studied the entire human body (in my profession), and have close friendships with several internists. However, I have no health insurance. Based on what I've studied and have been told, the most likely culprits are gastroparesis (very slow emptying of the stomach) OR gall bladder disease.
The loose stool seized and introduced nausea and bloating (no puking). I ran out of immodium and decided to use rolaids to calm my upset stomach since I couldnt get to the doctor over the weekend. Shortly after, I had burning in my stomach along with the upset stomach (very unbearable). My doctor prescribed Nexium. My question...this is my third day on Nexium and I still feel a little bloated with nausea periodically not as bad(I have also been under stress lately).
I have gone through the website of <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>pepto</span> bismol. It is rationale to kill bacteria which are causing gas and repopulate with yogurt and lacto bacilus. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hello, You are right in saying that it can be case of gastroenteritis. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. It can often cause sudden and sometimes violent upsets and may be confused with spastic colitis.
Now it has become to 2 times an hour of diarreha that is very watery explosive bloody each time. The vet is closed and the weather is horrible here with ice and snow everywhere with no way safely to get out any ideas on what we can do for our dog would be much appreciated I have given him pepto bismoth but that has not helped any at all. Please....
I would think you can at least call the Vet tomorrow, since the one puppy was already seen, update them on this pup and ask for recommendations as to what to do. Check on the <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>pepto</span>/Pepcid combo and the doses. Did he recommend diet? Try some chicken (no skin) and rice. Give a few small meals. Make sure he is getting fluids. You could also try some baby rice cereal, mix into a gruel. Good luck.

I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
I'm 65 and had bypass surgery 3 years ago. Cardiologist says I'm in good health and now sees me every 18 months. for cholesterol and heart I take 1/2 50 mg Metaprolol with 81 mg apirin in AM + 3 625 mg Welchol, 3 625 mg Welchol at lunch and at dinner I take 80 mg Zocor + 1/2 50 mg metaprolol. Cholesterol reading are 158 total (85 LDL, 43 HDL and 150 Trgls). A few weeks ago I began to have just a plain old low grade stomach ache near center, just below navel. Some days it was not noticeable.
I used some over the counter medication which didn't work (<span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>pepto</span> and rolaids). At the time my stomach also gurgled and cramped. I saw my doctor a few days later who diagnosed me with gastritis and prescribed Nexium. I saw another doctor about a week later who told me to stop taking Nexium and prescribed Nulev as it could be a IBS or gastroenteritis. The Nulev stopped the gurgling and the cramps but left me bloated. I was scared to eat anthing although I had an appetite.
During my time there, I had 2 bouts of uncomplicated diarrhea that resolved naturally (and with the help of <span style = 'background-color: #dae8f4'>pepto</span> bismol). Since my return, I have been having very foul-smelling flatulence, and I have linked this to the consumption of dairy products, milk in particular. I am concerned because I never had such issues in the past, and have even done an elimination diet a few years ago to check for potential food allergies with no serious offenders found.
Serious diseases such as appendicitis, bowel obstruction, or even a ruptured aortic aneurysm can cause periumbilical pain and cramping. Other diseases such as gastroenteritis or mesenteric ischemia should also be considered. Black stools are also concerning for an upper GI bleed. Although iron intake can also cause black stools, you should be evaluated by a physician to determine if there is bleeding or not. I strongly suggest followup with your personal physician.
I had those horrible smelling burps and I was diagnosed with gastroenteritis (sp?). The smelly stuff was coming out of both ends. I went to the emergency room when I lived in Florida and they gave me this stuff to drink that looked like lime green milk and it went away real fast.
A variety of diseases can cause nausea and vomiting. Examples (this is not a complete list) include gastroenteritis, food poisoning, acute non-gastrointestial infections (i.e. pneumonia, pyelonephritis), obstruction of the stomach, small bowel or colon, liver or gall bladder disease, pancreatic disease, peptic disease or cancer. You are experiencing nausea and vomiting associated with meals, flu-like symptoms, and chills.
Hi, I really need some advice. I have no idea what's wrong with me and I'm beginning to feel desperate as I don't seem to be getting better. for the last week I've had almost constant nausea, although it's often much worse in the mornings and ranges from mild to non-existent in the evenings. During this time I've had trouble eating - sometimes I can manage some solid food, but never anything high in fat or highly processed, and no milk or other dairy - these foods turn my stomach.
for THE OCCASIONAL SOUR stomach AND BLOATING.I TRY TO WATCH WHAT I EAT.I DO SUFFER FROM THE OCCASIONAL BOUTS OF DIARRHEA USUALLY BEforE I GET MY PERIOD(IF I GET ONE).THYROID CK for FATIQUE& OK. MY 3 SISTERS HAVE HAD KIDNEY STONES-MORE THAN 3 TIMES EACH(I HAVE HAD NONE) & THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD EXPERIENCED VERY SIMULAR SYMPTOMS AS I DESCRIBE BELOW-HOWEVER,THEY DID NOT SEE BLOOD IN STOOL.
Gastroenteritis.... Last 24-48 hours. Some are viral some are bacterial some are parasitic. Best prevention wash your hands or use a sanitizer after touching surfaces. Clean with bleach/water solution on hard surfaces. Don't share untensils or drink from others cups. It takes 3 days to incubate and is highly contagious. If you get away with just having fever, chills and body aches for 1 day your in the clear. Try to drink a lot of water or gatorade and do a BRAT diet.
i can say that when my pup started vomiting and diarrhea over a two days period, when i took her to the vet she was treated for mild gastroenteritis and this scared the hell out of me so i advice you to call the vet and get the pup check up again. oh! one of thing he gave me besides the tablets was ' Genhydate oral rehydration salts' it worked like a charm on lady; it clear her bowels and rejuvenate her in less than a week but have him/her see the vet!
While there, they tested my urine and did the usual check up routine. They put me on an IV and game liquids and anti-nausea medication. They diagnosed me with gastroenteritis. They told me to wait it out and that my body had to fight it on its own. They suggested a bland diet, and that I continue hydrating, and (now with the medicine I would not have to throw up every time I had a drink of water.) The nausea got a lot better, but the diarrhea has not stopped and is very painful.
Since then I have been to see various doctors and gastro specialists, I've had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy but they have not discovered anything. The common diagnosis is that it is IBS, but I don't really suffer from the constipation/diarrhoea pattern and nausea is my biggest problem. I have also noticed that I am quite bloated (much more than I used to be) and my stomach is constantly churning, grumbling and making noises.
I've tried drinking soda, swallowing air, etc, and it just makes me feel uncomfortable but doesn't make me burp. Instead, my throat gurgles. The best way to describe the sound is like a stomach growling, only in the throat. It's incredibly embarrassing and I can't prevent it from happening. It tends to happen a lot after I drink juice or soda, but also sometimes after meals where I only drank water.
