Gastroenteritis and muscle aches

Common Questions and Answers about Gastroenteritis and muscle aches

Yesterday morning woke up feeling sorta bad. Muscle aches came on first, then headache, followed by chills and low grade fever all day and into the night. By 8 this morning I felt more or less well. Little washed out and place where nose meets throat felt somewhat tender. Also was coughing up a pretty small amount of bloody phlegm that had that metallic/sweet taste that makes one think of infection. It's 4:30 now and other than that part of throat still feeling a little tender I feel fine.
The vomiting and abnormal bowel movements seem more in line with gastroenteritis to me, but I'm not sure about the fever, muscle aches, and chills. I did eat a caesar salad about twenty-four hours before the onset of the illness, so I guess it could conceivably be salmonella poisoning. Do you agree that gastroenteritis is more likely than ARS? Thanks for your input.
If one of us gets the flu, we should seek antiviral treatment for it ASAP - preferably within 24 hours of the beginning of the fever, muscle aches, sore throat and all that goes along with it. There are several meds that are proven to shorten the severity and length of the flu if taken early enough in the illness. Most people don't know that the influenza virus is active and present all year long. So, it is possible to get the flu at any time.
I experienced acute diarrhoea, sickness and flu-like symptoms (couldn't get out of bed, muscle aches, fever) on the first two days. For a week thereafter I had nausea, headaches, sinus problems and stomach/ intestinal pains. My doctor originally thought it was gastroenteritis and advised to continue on a five day course of metrolag to rid the bacteria. The symptoms deceased after about a week. Two weeks later and the same symptoms have come back (three weeks after initially getting sick).
I just started taking Yaz almost 2 weeks ago and I am feeling so bad, I felt ok the first week and this second week I feel like I have had the flu all week, I usually go to the gym almost everyday and I haven't even been able to get out of my pajamas this week, I had to have my husband come home from work to help me with my 2 year old because I felt so nausea, tired, weak, angry, body aches severely, hot flashes and chills, I hadn't been on birth control for almost a year and decided to get bac
then I started to get nauseous and very tired with fever (it peaked at 38.6 deg C). I vomited once and didnt eat anything all day. Muscle aches, lethargy as well as fever, nausea continued throughout the day. I woke up pretty normal the next day without any symptoms !! I read it could be stomach flu...but I didnt have diarrhea... Any thoughts?
Starting on 3AM last Friday, I started having symptoms of what I thought was the flu going around. Diarrhea, vomiting, fever (101.5), muscle aches (mild to severe), sweats and chills, stiffness, weakness, some dizziness, no appetite. I automatically assumed it was the influenza virus but in almost everywhere I read, it says a cough and/or sore throat almost always follow. I've had neither, nor have I had any chest pain.
For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
Four days now, pain hasn't been too bad yet. I'm having muscle and joint pain some twitching in the muscles. I feel more tense too and am getting some brain zaps. I also take Wellbutrin,Voltaren, Flexeril and Topamax which may be helping some. That is interesting about Topamax and Fibro...I've never heard that before. I take it for migraines and I have not lost alot of weight but I don't eat alot to begin with, but I am over weight.
I get heartburn A LOT. And now I have muscle spasms in my stomach sometimes. I get constipated a lot. There used to be blood in my stool (probably because the stool was so hard it would tear me up). Now I'm nauseous more often (still getting that eggy smell). I don't have much of an appetite anymore, my clothes are looser than they used to be. It's not a dramatic weight loss. It says on the scale that I still weigh the same. But my clothes are getting looser. I get mucus sometimes in my stool.
This relaxes smooth muscle in the bronchi in the lung, has a rapid onset of action, and is rarely associated with significant side effects at normal doses. The muscle in the lower bowel is similar smooth muscle. A recent German study published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology involved a double-blind cross-over trial to evaluate the efficacy of inhaled salbutamol and the duration of symptoms in patients with proctalgia fugax.
Okay, so...I have had some strange, unexplained symptoms since November (it's almost April) and I am really at my ends of trying to deal with these problems will trying to juggle college and work and just wanting to be my old "normal" 20 year old self. Muscle aches Sporatic Joint pain - mostly all joints - most severe in knees SEVERE fatigue Aches/feeling of uncomfort all over Muscle twitching (have had my whole life, but I notice more now) Sick a lot - i.e.
I also eat pretty healthy (especially for a college student) Muscle aches Sporatic Joint pain - mostly all joints - most severe in knees (it moves day my wrists will hurt and last for 3 - 4 days, then my elbows will hurt. it's also symmetric pain usually) SEVERE fatigue Aches/feeling of uncomfort all over Muscle twitching (have had my whole life, but I notice more now) - all over my body Sick a lot - i.e.
I think everything is over and I clean up. I walk out of the toilet and in about 2 minutes time the stomach cramp and the fainting sensation comes back (I've fainted only once to date from this and was out for about 15-20 minutes). 6. When I get back to the toilet I have a really violent Diarrhoea episode in pure liquid state.
However, there is validity to the premise that pain will actually keep you alive longer, and it's always an ongoing challenge to find the balance of pain and/or anxiety control. Remember, too, that acute co-morbid events, ie: coronary, pulmonary or spontaneous bleeding and clotting can occur at any time and hasten death Additionally, it is not uncommon for liver failure patients to wax and wane in terms of their mentation, confusion and overall state.
I feel a pain that almost comes from the pectoral muscle, and reaches around to the lower portion of my left armpit. Accompanying this, I often have a dull pain in my back, which varies in coming from the area around my heart to the base of my spine. I have a lot of stress in my life and do suffer from high blood pressure and stomach problems. I am wondering if part of these pains might be due to gastroenteritis or acid reflux.
An electrolyte imbalance can cause palpitations, fatigue, weakness, nausea, irritability, muscle twitching and lots of other symptoms. If a patient has a very serious imbalance, it can become a life threatening situation. On two different occasions, when she was very young, my daughter came down with a servere case of viral gastroenteritis (basically, a viral stomach flu). Within a matter of a few hours, her electrolytes dropped to near zero.

Now it's back (again!), along with headache, muscle aches, fatigue, and mild disorientation. (I should mention that we are currently dealing with a flea infestation, in case that is in any way relevant.) I also want to add that my husband has had terrible rashes on his lower legs for some time, which as a result of his endless scratching (sigh) have turned into open sores. Gah, it sounds terrible when I lay it all out like that . . .
When he is running the fever, he is unable to use any of his muscles, so bad that I need to help him out of the bath and into the bed with a struggle. He is still runnung a fever and the muscle and stomach cramps stays, he is very tired and sleep a lot. He is otherwise a very healthy person and this is very frustrating. And the doctor were unable to diagnose the symptoms. PLEASE HELP!!!
The nausea resolved, but the rest of the day, I was super fatigued with muscle aches and pains and this fever. I took Tylenol twice during the day, which helped. I had 1 bowel movement - no diarrhea. No lymphadenopathy that I can appreciate, though I am a skinny person and can feel some small cervical ones at baseline. I did my usual reading on and looked up some articles, but it's really scaring me. I have not felt this way in >1.5 years, so this is concerning to me.
I have had three severe bouts of diarrhea lasting several days and sometimes accompanied by fever, chills, and muscle aches. My PCP said its just a chronic case of gastroenteritis. My family did have a short course of these symptoms as well but have been okay since. I have also noticed that i have abdominal pain and cramping and bloating. I also have pain under my ribs after defecating. My back has also been hurting during these episodes. My recent bloodwork did suggest an infection.
In spring-summer 2013 I got piercing stomach aches in the upper abdominal area and heartburn. These symptoms lasted for a few days and I thought it was too much smoking. I also have occasional recurring left frontal neck pains which my G.P. said are probably muscular because of the coming-going. In May I had an episode of myalgia (doctor said it was due to infection) which went a way after some hours.
Thanks for the advice and yes some of the symptoms have gotten better. I don't have the body aches anymore and I only throw up occasionally now. I'm gonna say no to the Xanax thing because I don't want another monkey on my back. I'm in it to win it this time!!!! I just wish I could sleep and eat a little better.
I was having stomach aches and the constant feeling that I had to evacuate, despite every time I tried to go, It was just orange jelly in the toilet. I bought a liquid at target that makes you go to the bathroom. I took that Saturday afternoon and didn’t go ten feet from the toilet for the rest of the day. Whatever it did, it flushed out all that orange goo and whatever else that might have been in there.
I think it is a possibility, particular b/c I have had bladder and bowl disturbances and muscle weakness. My weakness is in all limbs, but most noticeable and bothersome in my arms and hands. I did have three MRI's, one of the Spinal Chord. I know they were looking for MS lesions in the MRI's; would the inflammation not be detected? Could I have clean MRI's and actually have Transverse Myelitis.
since I have started dontating plasma, I have had a 104 degree fever, gastroenteritis, and tonsillitis. This is all within 4 months, and prior to that i have not been sick since the 5th grade. I am 22 years old. Undoubtidy donating plasma lowers your immune system and there is nobody who could ever tell me differently.
I will certainly not discount the earthquake cause, especially how several have it. I do also suffer from severe back pain and musclle aches. Also, I smoke cigarettes and drink beer........I have been trying to quit drinking, but it is the only cure temporarily for my back pain, and it allows me to sleep. The smoking of course coexists becuase of the drinking. If certain it must be a neurological issue. Or maybe the earthquake threw off the rhythm of my heartbeat......who knows?
