Hello. I am a 36 y.o. male. I had an inguinal hernia repaired 2 years ago. I was an open surgery (not laparoscopic) and repaired with mesh. I have not had what I consider a normal, healthy bowel movement since then. Stool is loose, often floats and stains the toilet (leaves streaks after flushing). Most BMs are urgent and occur 3+ times/day. There is sometimes a burning feeling while going and it is often difficult to wipe clean.
What could be the possible cause of severe distention of the stomach to the point whereby i look as if i am nine months pregnant it doesnt matter what i eat or drink the stomach is always bloated. I have had an endoscopy and barium, scans etc to be told it is gas, i have taken all sorts of things to relieve gas but it doesnt help.
i have similar problems. the thing that helped me the most was something called the specific carbohydrate diet, which is quite strict. i was on it for 5 months -- big improvement in digestion. however, i lost too much weight (i'm quite thin) and it was very incovenient for me. if you can commmit yourself to it, i would highly recommend it.
also, water fasting has helped me in the past temporarily. i've done it from one day to about 4 days.
I have been reading all the questions on stomach distention. I have all the problems listed and all the tests done but no answer. I have recently been to the Univ of Ala in Birmingham to their research hospital and they cannot find the answer to this horrible problem. I cried on the phone today with them saying it has been 9 months of tests and nothing has changed and I do not want to spend the rest of my life like this.
Lately, I started having a lot of distention in upper abdomen. Stomach was tight and bloated the entire day, making life painful. Doc ordered a CT scan, in which they diagnosed diverticulosis. He put me on antibiotics to prevent diverticulitis - the theory was that infection could be causing the gas. Things are worse now. I'm miserable - the stomach distends to two extra sizes. I have also been put on fiber to help abosrb gas.
My doctor prescribed me so medicine to help with the stomach pains, she also said to eat saltine crackers and chicken noodle soup.
A CTscan was NOT done prior to, and the lapchole took place without any complications. About a week after the surgery, the distention returned, along with the same symptoms I was having prior to.
I decided to seek out a second opinion at that time. From the time of surgery, Nov 2011 to present time, I've gone through every test imaginable.
I'm guessing the previous stomach you had was more from bowel distention than baby. Especially that early that's normally the cause of the belly sticking out when your not that far along. I had really bad bloating up to 12 weeks and now it's smaller. Your baby bloat probably went away some and now your baby bump is showing.

However, this time around I had just gotten done having my period..and after a morning of heavy coffee drinking, I found the stomach distention coming back. I had never noticed it except before my period before. That was Christmas eve, and the next day was Christmas..so I ate more than usual. He was fussy to the point of unbearable. Passing large amounts of gas, had stomach distention, and was appearing to be jaundiced. Hello. I am a 32 year old white female. I was experiencing pain that was waking me up at night that seems to radiate from my right upper abdomen to my right flank and into my right clavicle/scapula area and even down into my elbow. This persisted for about 4 nights, each episode seemingly happening at the same time every night. Then it started happening during the day, later in the afternoon.
Ascites can be one of the causes, but not the only cause. The indigestion could be caused by the cyst. I was stage 1A, and had all of the symptoms...I also had very large masses. There are also women that have cysts that experience indigestion that do not have OvCa.
I think that if they really knew the cause, they would know alot more about this disease.
Have you heard of psoas problems causing bloating like this? The pain has improved about 40% with treatment however the distention is still terrible. Could something else be wrong with this muscle that is causing this symptom?
