Gas causing shortness of breath

Common Questions and Answers about Gas causing shortness of breath

gas

At Christmas I had pneumonia and now I am experiencing shortness of breath and pains in my chest. The pains go from front to back, my chest feels tight and heavy and it feels uncomfortable to swallow food. I seem to belch a lot and get acid reflux. I am also experiencing a lot of cramps, numbness and tingling in my arms and hands and sometimes this extends to my legs and feet but I don't know if it's related. Any ideas?
how would i know if i have that
You have described me to a "T" with your description of shortness of breath during my menstrual cycle. My will normally last about 2 wks. I have ask my family MD and my OB/GYN doctor and the only answer I have been given is "must be your hormones." My shortness of breath has been going on for several years, I'm now 46 yrs. old. If a doctor ever explains it to me, or determines the cause I will certainly let you know, and please do the same for me.
Did you ever find out what was causing your shortness of breath and did you find a cure? I'm having similar issues that just started this past week. All started with not icicle sinus drainage. And then nausea I suspected get in drainage then shortness of breath off and on and to varying degrees, for abt a week (that I attributed to sinus drainage getting into my lungs! No wheezing though). I've had no cold virus even though my husband did.
When you hear of cysts that cause fluid and shortness of breath is usually because it is an advanced case of ovarian cancer and the pressure and subesquent symptoms have put pressure on the lungs. That said, we are all individuals, and every symptom can be the result of the interactions that are caused by the cyst. So, if you have a particular syptom, it doesn't really matter if you get validation from someone else....it is real for you!!!
The symptoms of reflux were heart burn, burping, gas etc. The symptoms of hyperventilation were shortness of breath, cold sweats, feeling anxious, dizzy, like I was going to pass out, pains in my chest and ones passing down my left arm....
When I'm up and around, I start to feel the pressure migrate up to my diaphram and thus causing the shortness of breath. As the day goes on, I build up more and more gas. It's really bad because I work sitting down. I'm scheduled to see my PCP this week to discuss treating my stomach and to do a stress test. All the over the counter meds haven't worked for me, including Tums, Prilosec OTC, Pepsid AC, Gas-X, stool softeners. One more reason why I know it's my stomach and not my lungs/heart...
i was just wondering can anxiety cause shortness of breathe for that long ? i am also aware of my breathing all day long..like manually taking in breathe consciously which is bad cause i think i do overbreathe a lot which causes all those symptoms of breathless and lightheadness..i aslo did a thyroidtest which came out fine.
What is probably happening (and what has happened to me) is that it is causing a feeling of shortness of breath because of the pressure, but nothing bad is actually happening.
I really dont understand if it's the stresss that's triggering these symptoms or if it's the bloating that's triggering the shortness of breath and hence the stress. Can anyone help with finding the cause of this and what I can do for it to impact my work life minimally.
This is going to be semi-long, but I want to try and cover everything. My symptoms started in mid July, 08. I was on vacation overseas, when one day I was taking a hike with some family through the mountains. Walking uphill, for the first time I got really exhausted quickly, and experianced shortness of breath. I would have to try and take in a deep breath sometimes to "feel" as if I could get enough air. We continued walking and I continued to have the symptoms.
Shortness of breath, abdominal cramping and excessive mucus are all listed symptoms of a possible food allergy or food intolerance. Allergies show up on labs tests, intolerances do not. An elimination diet is how to pinpoint food intolerance/s. An autoimmune disease called celiac disease should be ruled out. Also test for thyroid hormones. A few ideas to go with.
It was intense causing me heart pains, shortness of breath and some what hard to breathe and a large amount of rumbling of gas movement in my chest (lots of sounds). So after it never went away sunday, monday or tuesday being the same or worse, I did some internet searching wondering if I had heart problems because it would experience frequent pain on what felt like the lower side of it. I ran across a post that had all my symptoms including anxiety which I have been diagnosed with in the past.
I believe this happened to me six years ago...I dealt with a lot of faintness and dizziness and shortness of breath while doing pretty intense exercise, and then eventually, my heart would slow way down and beat really hard and then gradually the afib went away. My cardiologist said that the deep hard slow beating of the heart IS sinus rhythm and that maybe I can get my heart to revert "naturally." Has anyone done this?
Have the hic-cups from the pressure on my diaphragm. Shortness of breath. Extreme nausea with vomiting and the heartburn.I have all the symptoms I had before the surgery. The pain runs across my chest and through to my back and into my shoulders. I am so miserable.Still have to sleep with my bed elevated. I follow the diet but find there are many things that I cannot eat that I should be able to. I, also, was lied to and had no counseling.
Pleuritis (inflammation of lining of lung) and pulmonary embolism (clot in lung) are other possibilities causing shortness of breath with chest pain. A CT scan of the chest can rule out both. Shingles too can start this way. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
It is worth asking your doctor to do a stool sample for H pylori, after the antibiotics it took about 3 months for my stomach to get back to normal, but now no more hearburn, gas, bloating, and I have gained back 14 lbs of the 20 lbs that I lost.
If anyone has an idea of why im getting shortness of breath after meals and can share there knowledge i would really be grateful for your suggestions and information. Iam pushing for further testing but when i ask for some my doctor tells me he doesnt feel there is a relationship between sob after meals and heart disease. i would like to know from anyone who knows of a particular heart diease that could be causing my symptoms. Thank you in advance for any info you might provide.
He has shortness of breath and can't sleep at night when he is laying down. He then doesn't have much appetite because of the coughing. He also seems to break out a fever with the cold sweats at night, maybe once a month. On occasion he will have gas in his abdomen and for sure can't breathe or eat and then feels like he needs to burp it out. Please Help with any new ideas to figure this out!
Along with the tightness in is chest, he was having trouble sleeping thru the night. He often wakes up 2-3 times a night out of breath. He feels tired all of the time and has to force himself to do things. The endoscopy found that he was having a bit of acid reflux (possible GERD), and he was put on nexium for that. He is also currently taking cymbalta for anxiety issues. please keep posting as you find out! and I will too.
I am so grateful to read all of your experiences and know that I am not alone with this A-Fib thing! I have been telling all the doctors I have seen that I really think this is related to gas. I can remember always explaining it this way "I feel some pressure in my chest, my heart flutters, I burp, and the pressure goes away and my heart goes back to normal." Now that sort of thing doesnt really scare me (premature ventricular beats).
I seem to have sometimes dull sometimes sharp pains under my breast bone. I get bloated very easily after eating. I burp a lot of stomach gas. Lots of belching ensues. Sometimes I feel like my esophagus swells up and then I can feel my heart beating in my chest, the fluttering and butterfly feeling. Then, this irregular beating in my chest scares me and causes anxiety, then the viscous cycle repeats. The anxiety causes more chest pain, more gas, and more discomfort.
I automatically think I may have some type of heart issue due to the fact that I can not breath after I eat.. What could be causing my shortness of breath, my heart or an underlined GI problem.. Does anyone suffer from something identical?? Doctor thinks it might be gastritis, but wants to perform and endoscopy and a colonoscopy to make sure he's not missing anything.. Anyone's valuable information would be appreciated significantly..
I suffer from shortness of breath, yawning, and mild anxiety with shortness of breath. -26 years old, great health, nothing wrong with me physically. -Non-smoker, although occasionaly weed ( 1-2 times a month ) -I do deal with the public, high stress situations, large crowds (being a drummer) and I do worry about things excessively, although usually to myself. -I work night shifts, alternating to weekend days :^( -I also work at a computer frequently too.
I wish I had known all those years I was on the Pill that it was causing the anxiety b/c I could have saved myself a lot of grief and discomfort. I still have to find a form of birth control and was recently told that the copper IUD doesn't have the same effect as the Pill, so I'm gonna give that a shot.
Once you know it is structurally fine, which it likely is especially in the absence of any troubling symptoms like shortness of breath or fainting, but once you know your heart is structurally fine you may find your symptoms ease up just for the simple fact anxiety and stress can make them worse. In any event since it seems like you feel the situation is worsening just go get checked out. Take care and keep us posted on how you are doing.
I am actually considering another one b/c I have been feeling fatigue and shortness of breath. One thing I have noticed is that when lying down my hear rate will be around 55bpm and up. I dont if that has something to do with it or if it is stress causing it.
