Gas causing foods in breastfed babies

Common Questions and Answers about Gas causing foods in breastfed babies

gas

Avatar m tn Breastfed babies tend to have more adapable palet as mom eats a variety of foods. Breastmilk is very sweet and breastfed babies tend to eat sweeter foods easier. Remember it is about the learning and getting them to move it around theri mouths and swallow. The first foods with sweeter tastes that baby will enjoy better are sweet potatoes and avacado for first foods recomended that have very high nutritional value. then pears and apples.
1271927 tn?1310580362 It is totally normal for the poop of breastfed babies to appear to be like diarrea. Breastfed babies have frequent, loose bowel movements, especially in the first few months. My girls would poop 8 to 12 times a day in the beginning! And it was liquid, and if they pooped while we were changing them, it was projectile (once hit a wall 3 feet away). DH called it liquid evil. It is also very normal for a newborn to be gassy. It could be a result of what mom eats, or it could be normal gassiness.
Avatar f tn My colicky baby cries a lot and gets all knotted up red and agitated when having g colic episodes. I bounce him, drive around, tried pacifiers, carry him front on chest with wrap and carrier, I coo him on my chest belly down, swing chair, bathing n massaging, stroller and even gripe water (mommy's bliss) . Its stressful seeing babies cry like that. How do you soothe your babies? Any more ideas? .
1158221 tn?1327972603 I remember thinking my babies were, but breastfed babies will naturally have bowel movements similar to it. Does he have a fever at all? If so, (among other signs) a virus would be suspected. A few ways I found to help relieve gas is by laying baby on their belly (this works wonders for my daughter) or you can do baby crunches. You hold them under the chin and sit them back, and then just have them do crunches.
8216409 tn?1405754433 I agree it depends in your baby. I love spicy foods and have eaten them during all pregnancies and breastfeeding and my babies were fine.
Avatar f tn Breastfed babies don't get gas and reflux as bad as bottle babies (whether it's breast milk or formula, the bottle makes them gassier). But I would still try burping them when they pop off the boob.
Avatar f tn Bookworm, it's safe. But if you're having to resort to using it, it sounds like you're experiencing a lot of gas production and it's uncomfortable. Have you looked for the underlying cause? Are there other symptoms going on? Many times when someone produces a fair amount of uncomfortable gas it could be due to a food/foods that their system can't process well. Have you tried to exclude foods to see if that could be causing the problem?
773723 tn?1235351972 I breastfed her for four weeks, and even during the four weeks she had ALOT of problems with gas. Now that she is on formula, we started out using regular similac formula, then began using gentlelease enfamil and gentlelease similac, nothing works. She becomes constipated every now and then as well, I don't know what else to do because I know there is not much you can do becuase of their young age.
Avatar f tn Breastfed babies often don't have as much gas as bottle fed babies, they just don't feed as fast and take in as much air. I don't know which applies to you. That being said, placing him on his tummy is fine for having him burp. I was taught to sit my babies up on my lap and with my hand cupping them under the chin lean them slightly forward while patting their backs. The pressure on the tummy helps bring up the gas, and lying him on his tummy would likely have the same effect.
Avatar f tn That is a bit early for constipation. I breastfed and my son usually had poo in almost every diaper. Try gently rubbing her tummy in a clockwise motion. It should help any trapped gas or poo work it's way through the intestines. I wouldn't give anything to her without consulting her pediatrician.
Avatar n tn m not a mommy yet but we touched on some of this in our breast feeding class. Sometimes babies will swallow more air with certain bottles and cause them to be more gassy. Maybe try changing the bottle position or different bottle? I also heard gripe water helps or leaning them foward and massaging their bellies after feedings.
Avatar f tn broccoli, cabbage, beans. It's trial and error, pay attention to what you eat, if baby is gassy avoid that food. Also this changes, what affects baby early on may have no affect on him at 6 months. There's help out there, stick with it, you can do this! So good for baby, mommy, your budget, lol. Good luck!
Avatar f tn poops maybe every 2 days. Pediatrician finally told me to try putting KARO syrup in his formula, ive been doing that for awhile now & not only that but also been doing gas drops, sugar water & gripe water. Hes all the time gasey & constipated. The pediatrician said if.the KARO didnt help then to buy baby sypositories (sp) but when I tried they told me at the pharmacy that they dont make them for babies. Idk what else to do or try.
Avatar f tn Sometimes there isn't air in their tummies. In general babies that are breastfed don't suck as much air as bottle fed babies so they burp less. Unless your my daughter who burps and spits up more when I nurse then when she has a bottle lol.
Avatar n tn i have been experiencing nausea after eating certain foods. Is there some foods i should avoid eating like fried foods or hamburger? why do i have gas all the time?
Avatar f tn Babies have liquid poops that have breast milk! It's probably just the force if sneezing and farting making it come out. Does baby seem in pain? If so, try Oval or Infacol or even Gripe Water!
Avatar f tn Breastfed babies do sometimes poop more than formula fed babies and it can be more runny but check with the doc
2006603 tn?1331329327 People will tell you to avoid eating spicy foods and foods that give you gas because the baby's tummy hasnt processed that yet. I ate whatever I wanted though because my thought was their tummy is gonna have to handle it sometime, might as well be gradually. Your pediatrician will tell you when and how to add solids. I breastfed with both of my kids and plan on it again with this one. It's much easier to roll over at 4am and nurse than to walk to the kitchen and make a bottle.
7975661 tn?1403095318 Allot of times breastfed babies don't burp. It's much easier on their tummies and they aren't getting air that is remaining in the bottle. My son rarely did. If he's fussing it may be gass in the lower tract. Try bicycling his legs to break up and gas below.
9590250 tn?1452831684 s breastfed she said he poop 2 times a day maybe 3 and the rest is pee. I heard breastfed babies poop more I might be wrong idk im a ftm Im just going off what I seen & heard.
280369 tn?1316702041 When my guys were small, and even now, we gave them a bit of kayro syrup (sp) (the light kind, not the dark. I don't remember why, but I think it's because there's something in the dark syrup that doesn't help relieve the constipation.). When they were babies we'd mix it in with their milk and in a few hours...oh I had a lovely little present to go along with my happy babies. Now, we just give them a little bit in a teaspoon.
Avatar f tn My daughter spit up hands full at a time and I had to take her off breastmilk all together she had to be on formula cause it was heavier than breastmilk. She had reflux so it helped her hold down more but good thing it never affected her weight or health.
Avatar f tn it gave me vomiting etc..
Avatar f tn I mean they are healthy foods...just remember, everything in moderation.
