neurontin

Avatar f tn Most of the individuals described in these reports had a history of poly-substance abuse or used gabapentin to relieve symptoms of withdrawal from other substances. When prescribing gabapentin carefully evaluate patients for a history of drug abuse and observe them for signs and symptoms of gabapentin misuse or abuse (e.g. development of tolerance, self-dose escalation, and drug-seeking behavior).
4544656 tn?1371593548 s definitely gabapentin withdrawal. Gabapentin can cause withdrawals like benzos or alcohol. It doesnt happen to everyone, but it can happen. When I feel the withdrawals, if I take a dose of gaba, I'm fine 20 minutes later. I was hoping to hear how others deal with it. I'm down to 200 mgs! Slowly, but surely I'll get there.
6937315 tn?1386287618 Seriously worst withdrawal on the planet. I'm almost on my second week since last dose and still in full physical withdrawal. Use at your own risk. Don't let the "non-narcotic" label fool you it's very mentally and physically addicting. I feel like I need to warn people. This is just ridiculous that I was never warned about this.

Avatar m tn I have to agree with your doc -- the therapeutic dose of Lyrica is 450mg / day, and for gabapentin, 1600mg / day or more. To have withdrawal symptoms for any medication, you first have to have developed a tolerance to that medication. This takes time. Tolerance is defined as by decline in efficacy, meaning that a dose that was effective for a long time stopped working, and an increase in medication improved the situation. Tolerance takes time.
Avatar f tn I do have a bottle of 100 mg gabapentin (270 count) and have heard it willl ease withdrawal symptoms. How much should I start with, how many doses a day and how many days can I safely take it until I have to withdrawal from it too? I also have a bottle of methocarbamol and have heard it could ease the withdrawals. Has anyone ever tried it? I have been prescribed all these drugs including the vicodin for a botched broken leg/ankle surgery resulting in nerve pain.
Avatar n tn I take propranolol for Tremors from taking Gabapentin. I wanted to know if propranolol has withdrawal symptoms because I am weening off all meds to see if my new symptoms were caused by all the meds. I want to add meds as needed for Fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn Hi there. Withdrawal symptoms are seen if gabapentin is discontinued abruptly. These are usually anxiety, diaphoresis, irritability, agitation, confusion, and status epilepticus. The symptoms that are associated with gabapentin withdrawal tend to mimic some of those associated with ethanol and benzodiazepine withdrawal, possibly because gabapentin augments GABA levels like these.
Avatar f tn Hi. I'm wondering if it is safe for me to take Gabapentin for withdrawal symptoms from methadone? I read somewhere that the gaba is sometimes prescribed for that. I have never taken it before in my life and got a hold of a few 300mg capsules the other day. I have been into opiates off and on for about 8 years, getting pretty bad into them this past year. I think it is alot mental with me though. I started off on Perc 5's and 10's, graduating to oxy 30's about a year ago.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin withdrawal can be similar to benzo withdraw. In other words, this is tough for some people! If this doc is helping you do what he wants you to do, get another one FAST!!! God luck and let us know how it goes. This is good education for us all.
Avatar f tn I have run out of my medication a few times and have noticed I dont go through the withdrawal symprtoms with the gabapentin I am also able to sleep. I will probably get my last presription of painkillers when I go through my surgery tues which is an extremely painful surgery. It's an abdominal incsionary hernia recurruence. This is my third repair. I will get back to you about the withdrawls I go through with the painkillers and gabapentin. It all sound like loads of fun fun fun.
1168718 tn?1464983535 My question is, was the pain related to the withdrawal of the Gabapentin/Neurontin, or was it really helping me, and should I be on it forever..?????? I'm kinda scared now, that I have to realize that I NEED these damn drugs, and I have to just deal with it. So, that is where I have been the last while, so very sorry to hear of some new members, welcome to you, and sorry that you have to come to the forum, as you must be in limboland, or just needing support.
Avatar f tn Hi, so I've been using gabapentin for withdrawal from hydromorphone. I used the hydromorphone to get off of fentanyl which Id been addicted to for 2 years. So I badly tapered of the hydro, and have been self medicating with gabapentin to nullify my withdrawal symptoms (about 2400mg 2x a day is what I've found at this point works best after establishing a tolerance).
1474625 tn?1371097079 m wondering if people in general are confusing the withdrawal syndrome of improperly stopping gabapentin with classic withdrawal, or if it actually is addicting to them psychologically as well. I personally have not felt any effects from gabapentin that could potentially cause me to abuse the drug, but I am on the lowest dose available. So my question is have you experienced any effects from gabapentin that could potentially cause you to become addicted to it?
Avatar f tn I'm almost 5 weeks in from recovering from a tramadol addiction. Please be aware that tramadol is very hard to withdrawal from. They may last a little longer but it's so worth it! Gabapentin was prescribed to me for 6 days and was a God send but is NOT the answer and especially not for everyone.
Avatar f tn Possibly if the gabapentin does not work speak with the Physician about "lyrica' .it is a refined form of Gaba and seems to have good clinical success for neuropathy ..off label I find it personally better than gabapentin Best...
Avatar f tn I also take gabapentin. Three weeks ago I stopped temazepam and tramadol. I am taking zolpidem every night now and continue gabapentin 3x a day. I don't crave either of the meds I quit, but I have been experiencing inability to concentrate, ringing in my ears, vomiting, blurry vision, sweating, confusion, anxiety and mood swings. The symptoms wax and wane and I can't find a pattern. The seem to occur as a cluster, meaning all symptoms occur together and come on suddenly.
5447621 tn?1368108821 I have been concerned with withdrawal as I went thru it after my spinal fusion when being hospitalized for 4 days post surgery and on morphine every 2 hours the entire time. coming home sucked! I thought I was going nuts. the second day I took myself off all meds completely thinking it was the percocet 10s they had me on plus flexeril and gabapentin...when I couldn't deal with the pain and the sweats and shakiness,HIGH anxiety and insomnia stopped I restarted on the meds as prescribed.
Avatar f tn Lyrica shouldn't be stopped abruptly. You should call your doctor for advice. You're describing withdrawal symptoms. Check out the substance abuse forum for some tips on feeling better Staying hydrated is very important. Keep us posted on what's going on with you.
Avatar f tn So my dr gave me gabapentin for tramadol withdrawals. It has helped wonderfully. This was 7 days ago. So I think I am over the withdrawals from the tramadol but I have been taking high doses of gabapentin in that 7 days. Like anywhere from 900-1800mg a day to stave off withdrawals. My question is how long will it take to develop a gabapentin addiction because I've read horror stories about the withdrawals.
Avatar m tn gabapentin at a lower dose is OK. I know you can have some withdrawal symptoms after prolonged use. My friend went through it, but he was on quadruple what you are taking for many years! Hang in there, you are still healing!
Avatar f tn I'm sorry, but I can't see how gabapentin will help at all with withdrawal symptoms. The molecules are completely different and I don't think they even use the same receptors in brain. I'm not familiar with the post you're referring to, but the gabapentin was probably prescribed to deal with pain rather than withdrawal symptoms. An old alpha blocker blood pressure medication called Clonidine is often used to help patients through withdrawal.
