Gabapentin side effects for dogs

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin side effects for dogs

neurontin

Avatar m tn What you describe is not a side effect of gabapentin. They contraindicate its use in dogs that have kidney deficits, but the only side effects are vomiting, depression, excessive sleepiness and loss of balance. None of the other medications should cause otic issues either, especially since he's not new to taking them. It sounds like your dog has possibly developed otitis externa on top of whatever he's taking the gabapentin and other medications for.
Avatar f tn Anyone have any side effects from starting neurontin or suggestions on how to adapt to using it. It's kicking my butt so far, so only taking it at night but a bit zoozy in the mornings. Am on 300mg, have titration orders but don't want to add any more at the present until I adjust to this night dose. anyone?
293157 tn?1285873439 Try not to talk yourself into side effects. The side effects profile for any proposed med is the absolute last thing I read :-) Justquilting - I wonder if the ringing in your ears is a red herring. I have tinnitus which predates my use of gabapentin. It's a reasonably common MS symptom. Is it possible that the onset of your ringing issue is just coincident to the start of gabapentin?
Avatar f tn Hi, is anyone else taking Gabapentin for nerve pain and are experiencing side effects? Since being on it for a week now I’ve noticed pain in my abdomen, neck, maybe even a little in my groin area too. Has anyone else experienced these side effects?
Avatar n tn How long after taking gabapentin will the side effects last. I have hair loss. I stopped taking gabapentin about four or five months ago.
1983221 tn?1333506185 Lyrica and Neurontin (Gabapentin) are in the same class of drug and have similar side effects profiles.
Avatar f tn No it sounds like you are either have a bad side effect from gabapentin or are allergic to it. I took 1200mg a day for several months and had no side effects other than being tired and memory problems. I haven't taken baclofen, so i don't know the side effect of that drug. Usually, muscle relaxers don't give you that bad of a headache. You may want to try Flexeril or another muscle relaxer.
Avatar n tn The suspect medication is gabapentin (for pain confined to the left thigh secondary to nerve damage following back surgery to replace two discs and insertion of a titaniium rod for stabilization). The surgery was last June and the results have been excellent! I have been on the gabapenten since last September. I also have osteoporosis with the degenerative joint desease. I take fosamax 70 mg weekly. I have been on the fosamax for 2 1/2 years with no side effects.
Avatar f tn What are the long term side effects of taking Gabapentin for long term pain control?
Avatar n tn I take Gabapentin for fibromylgia, i have had good luck with it, and had no side effects. What dosage are you at? you might google it for more information concerning the effectiveness and if there are any side effects.
Avatar n tn I have been prescribed Gabapentin and found the drug to have serious side effects. It significantly degrades intellectual ability, for one, affects judgement (adversely), and makes driving dangerous. It is also addictive. It also doesn't do much to relieve pain. Under certain circumstances it can precipitate seizures. Then it causes headaches. And difficulty breathing.. I just stopped it cold. I would never take it again.
Avatar n tn However their side-effect profiles may differ somewhat. If you are finding that the side-effects with gabapentin are tolerable then it would probably be best to increase the dose under doctor's advice. There is a long way upwards that you may go with the dose before reaching the upper limit, as Jason80 points out. I've used Lyrica for several months now and I am finding it very hard to tolerate the side-effects, although it does a good job of reducing pain significantly.
Avatar f tn Hi! I have a JRT/Terrier mix, male who is deaf. He is a rescue. 3-days after I brought him home he had his first seizure with me. I suspect he has had them for years but no one was around or cared. The vet started him on Zonithamide (sp). I ruled out phenobarb due to the kidney/liver issues it can cause. I researched like a crazy woman & found that a medication I take for nerve damage is also used for epilepsy. My little fella weighs about 18-lbs.
4186651 tn?1357830957 I was on it for 2 years and I am strongly considering getting back on it. There werent any side effects for me, except relief !
Avatar f tn I was on gabapentin after spinal injury, and decided that I was better off without it. The medication didn't do much for pain, but had the side effects you talked about, plus it caused confusion. I did not feel safe driving while under this medication. Everything is a risk/benefit situation, and I suggest you have a long talk with the prescribing physician if you experience problems.
Avatar f tn My orthopedic specialist tried switching me to Lyrica for 3 months back in 2014 with horrible immediate side effects. Switched back to Gabapentin. I am asking if there is another neuropathic pain medication to use as an alternative to Gabapentin. I agree that the Gaba helps with nerve pain, however the side effects are scaring me. I plan on discussing this with my PM but want to know more before going in.
Avatar f tn You can also try other meds. Even over-the-counter dramamine can be used for dogs. Reglan and phenergan are two other considerations. As with any medication, make sure you check with your vet first. Does your dog actually throw up on car trips? Is there a certain amount of time it takes to get really sick or is it immediate? You're doing a great job taking Rocky on short trips to get him used to car travel.
Avatar f tn I am taking 15MG of long acting oxys for my knee but when I have to walk it does not help too much and I have to spend the rest of the day with my knee burning and trying just to get it comfortable which is pretty much useless.

Avatar f tn I'm currently on a 4 month journey (that actually started one year ago) and I'm not diagnosed- yet- but feel pretty certain ms may be my final diagnosis. ( Dizziness, trouble swallowing, numbness left side of body from face to toes comes and goes, fatigue, tinnitus, pressure in neck on one side and back of head, garbled words, brain fog, muscle spasms in back, and muscle twitches in legs and arms, etc.
Avatar f tn I also know (through googling many different medications) that each time you adjust the dosage, that your body can have side effects. The side effects should get better as your body adjusts, but if they don't, you should definitely talk to your doctor about it.
