Anyone have any side effects from starting neurontin or suggestions on how to adapt to using it.
It's kicking my butt so far, so only taking it at night but a bit zoozy in the mornings. Am on 300mg,
have titration orders but don't want to add any more at the present until I adjust to this night dose.

Hi, is anyone else taking Gabapentin for nerve pain and are experiencing side effects?
Since being on it for a week now I’ve noticed pain in my abdomen, neck, maybe even a little in my groin area too.

This has been increased to 40mg but the pain from my hiatus hernia is still present specially in my back and loads of indigestion , starts after breakfast been on these now since a week this thursday but have found that my ankles have swollen and my feet also get wheezy saw from sheet in pills that these are rare side effects so cannot decide whether to go back doctor.or not it is beginning to make me fed up.
There are many drugs that should not be stopped abruptly. To do so risks serious (and sometimes dangerous) side effects. It doesn't have to do with addiction. It is because the body functions differently when the drug is taken and needs time to adjust itself back to functioning on it's own.

I am free of HCV but I too have long term side effects. It startedwith pain in joints and fatigue. After a couple of years I could no longer work due to what I later found out was multiple chemical sensitivities. They were severe. I stayed home for over 10 years and completely eliminated fragrances and other products with VOCs from my life. Slowly over years of avoidance I felt like I was getting better. (I was turned down for Sadi and humiliated).
I have been prescribed Gabapentin and found the drug to have serious side effects. It significantly degrades intellectual ability, for one, affects judgement (adversely), and makes driving dangerous. It is also addictive. It also doesn't do much to relieve pain. Under certain circumstances it can precipitate seizures. Then it causes headaches. And difficulty breathing..
I just stopped it cold. I would never take it again.
Trileptal is a newer drug than Tegretol (carbamazapine) and is supposed to have less side effects than Tegretol.
You do have to have blood tests every three months because it can affect the sodium levels in your blood, which could lead to kidney problems.
I went through 6 doctors before I found a Facial Pain Specialist at a large teaching hospital that actually helped me.
Thanks for your reply. I can relate to your sons side effects. It takes a lot to keep a 10 year old down! I don't know which is worse, the head/neck pain or feeling so bad all the time. I hope your son is doing well now. Nothing worse than having your child sick and feeling bad.

This is called corneal edema and is due to shock waves coming off the phaco handpiece hitting the corneal endothelium. It can also be caused by chunks of the cataract bumping into the cornea. It is more common with dense, hard cataracts requiring a lot of phaco energy or more phaco power. It is also more common in people with unhealthy corneas which is sometimes the case in much older eyes with dense cataracts.

Would anyone be so kind to share his/her knowledge on how the side effects of topical corticosteroids, namely that of swelling/edema in subcutaneous tissue, as well as dilation of superficial blood vessels(capillaries), develop. I have developed these side effects from usage of two different corticosteroids for different skin problems.
However their side-effect profiles may differ somewhat. If you are finding that the side-effects with gabapentin are tolerable then it would probably be best to increase the dose under doctor's advice. There is a long way upwards that you may go with the dose before reaching the upper limit, as Jason80 points out.
I've used Lyrica for several months now and I am finding it very hard to tolerate the side-effects, although it does a good job of reducing pain significantly.
I was on gabapentin after spinal injury, and decided that I was better off without it. The medication didn't do much for pain, but had the side effects you talked about, plus it caused confusion. I did not feel safe driving while under this medication. Everything is a risk/benefit situation, and I suggest you have a long talk with the prescribing physician if you experience problems.
I had my first experience with Solu-Medrol infusion in early August. My relapse had just started and was worsening daily-right before I was due to start training for my new job!

Pregabalin is similar to gabapentin but has less side effects and often people who can not tolerate gabapentin benefit from pregabalin. However it is more expensive.
The same is true for medications such as amitryptiline, which was originally used for depression but is now a mainstay of treatment for neuropathic pain. However, it has several side effects and may not be used in patients with heart problems.
