I just started this last weekend, 300mg once a day at bedtime. Now this new guy armed with the MRI that should have been done with contrast puts me on Neurontin (Gabapentin) working up to high doses for a month with instructions to come back if it dosen't fix the problem.I haven't been feeling well(besides the back) so my PCP did a viral count,blood work and was alarmed by the results right around 39,000.

My 10 year old son was perscribed gabapentin/neurontin (in combination with a few other drugs) for his nerve pain. It definitely helped but the side affects are a huge trade-off. He gained a considerable amount of weight too but I attruibuted that mostly to the fact that all he did was eat, sleep & be foggy - and wasn't able to be his normal active self. He's since been off the meds and the weight has come off too as he's now able to resume most his normal activities.

I do not think that neurontin withdrawals cause any drowsiness!

My research on pain forums and drug websites, which is how this drug is usually used, for pain, shows that at the doses used for pain, which can go pretty high given this drug seems to poop out regularly, coming off is pretty much like coming off a benzo for at least some people, which makes sense since this is shooting pure GABA into your brain, bypassing your digestive system altogether.
