Avatar f tn My husband uses Torodol for kidney pain it seems to work pretty good.
Avatar m tn I have had gastroparesis symptoms while taking gabapentin at a high dose for my muscular pain cause by gitelman syndrome (a rare kidney disease that causes kypokalemia) although hypokalemia can cause gastroparesis I don’t know if it is the gaba or the low potassium.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your info on how Trileptal works for Tregeminal Neuralgia. I would be interested to see how it works with other people as well, in place of Carbamazapine and Gabapentin so I have some ammunition when I see my neurologist. I don't think Gabapentin is doing much if anything for me, I am currently taking 2700 mg per day in addition to Carbamazapine.
1218873 tn?1300091216 My consultant asked my GP to over see the swap over to Lyrica. So this is the plan. This means to begin with lowering the gabapentin dose by 300mg every 3 days (I'm on 1800mg at the moment) and then when I'm down to 600mg of gabapentin a day I start to add the pregabalin 75mg to begin with then upping it every 3 days till I reach 300mg a day at the same time still reducing the gabapentin to zero. Hope that makes sense.
Avatar f tn It started as a uti was treated for it and wound up in the hospital twice last week with excruciating pain in lower back and abdomen. First they said it was a kidney stone then after the cat scan they said no there's no stone. The cat scan showed a lot of swelling in my lower back. I've also been having strange bowls sometimes with lots of blood. I'm constantly nauseas and throwing up.
Avatar m tn What you describe is not a side effect of gabapentin. They contraindicate its use in dogs that have kidney deficits, but the only side effects are vomiting, depression, excessive sleepiness and loss of balance. None of the other medications should cause otic issues either, especially since he's not new to taking them. It sounds like your dog has possibly developed otitis externa on top of whatever he's taking the gabapentin and other medications for.
Avatar n tn They are both used to treat nerve pain (neuropathic pain), but gabapentin can be useful in treating other pain syndromes, like the pain of peripheral neuropathy, or the pain of fibromyalgia. The only way to know if this medication will help is to try it, but I repeat, it is not used to substitute for opiate treatment, so you will most likely continue your morphine and oxycodone while trying it. Pain management, like football, is a game of inches.
Avatar f tn iv been on gabapentin for 5 days for pain im been sick 4 to 5 times aday feeling really emosinal and feeling really bad is this side affects normal sammy
Avatar m tn For copax, there is a small percentage of patients (2%) in after marketing studies who experienced kidney or flank pain, and I read about an instance of kidney failure, but seen no reference to the actual percentage or instances of how many. I'll dig for the source for you if you are interested. As far as provigil, you may find more information if you look for post marketing adverse reactions,kidney/renal (as key words) problems for modafinil. What kind of doc looking into this for you?
Avatar f tn all might remember me as the relative newcomer who asked about flank and abdominal pain/discomfort and kidney issues. Well, I finally had a CT scan and my urologist has ruled out kidney stones or other kidney issues as a source of the pain. The pain/discomfort is still there, basically just below my waist. It extends all the way around my torso some days and is pretty much constant.
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone help me please?
293157 tn?1285873439 Because I seem to be responding better to this latter drug, I am now slowly weaning off the gabapentin. I guess if the pain increases as I go off the gabapentin, this will tell me it was helping more than I realized. I have no side effects from the gabapentin, even at such a high dose. I do find the 50mg amitriptyline makes me very drowsy, and may need to scale it back to 40mg if this side effect continues.
Avatar f tn I also use Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation and Therapeutic Dressage (horse back riding) for pain control. A lot of my pain is made worse by a weak core and stress. I have to keep my core strong, stretch, and use mindfulness to keep the stress down.
Avatar n tn I was taking Gabapentin 300 mg for extreme nerve pain in my foot, it worked like magic for approx. 3 months then stopped being effective. Any Thoughts - Reasons?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Gabapentin for upper abdominal pain that was unexplained by my psychiatrist until my appointment with a GI doctor. It turned out I have a nerve issue in the abdominal wall, and the "fix" is Gabapentin. Aside from having a dizzy feeling for a couple of hours after the first dose (300mg) I have tolerated the drug extremely well. I noticed no other side effects, and was only dizzy for a few hours. I have no idea why it works, but it does.
Avatar n tn I am a 50 yr old male. I was prescribed Gabapentin for neurological pain management by the VAMC in Tampa, Florida. According to some post I've read, Gabapentin is a med that one must be weened off of. I've been taking Gabapentin off and on to help with pain so I can sleep. I don't take it all the time because of the side effects. Sometimes, but not all the time, I feel like I'm having a bad hangover after the medication wears off.
Avatar f tn I was on gabapentin myself for nerve pain. It didn't help my nerve pain at all. It caused me to become very nervous and on edge. I told my neurologist about it and she wanted me to continue taking the med. Well another week goes by and I keep having these freak out episodes. Now I am in severe pain and I am freaking out. Nobody wanted to be around me cause they felt they needed to walk on eggshells. I called the neurologist again. She cut my dose to 100 mg.
Avatar f tn I have taken Gabapentin before for pain and found it about as useless as a screen door in a submarine. Yeah I know the "top doctors" prescribe it. They also used to prescribe blood-letting. In addition it seems to lower a persons IQ by about forty points (I know...that's a figure of speech), cause loss of memory, headaches, and loss of libido. I think there are many alternatives to be considered before using Gabapentin, such as a frontal lobotomy.
Avatar f tn second day without the pain pills! But the doctor today gave me gabapentin for pain is it addictive? I dont need another addiction.
Avatar f tn Im going to start to slowly reduce the Gabapentin in hope that the itch subsides and hope the neuropathic pain does not return. Just wanted to put this out there in hope that someone can help me.
6937315 tn?1386287618 My research on pain forums and drug websites, which is how this drug is usually used, for pain, shows that at the doses used for pain, which can go pretty high given this drug seems to poop out regularly, coming off is pretty much like coming off a benzo for at least some people, which makes sense since this is shooting pure GABA into your brain, bypassing your digestive system altogether.
Avatar f tn Hiya! I am now thinking that perhaps it works sometimes and not others is that I actually have more than one cause of pain. Both are in the same sort of area (epigastric and ruq) I spoke to my gp this morning about that possibility....and she said I'd be pretty unlucky if it was the case - but it could be possible. I am thinking that this is right though.....
Avatar f tn I suffer from chronic pain from constant kidney stones and fibromyalgia. My pain doc closed his practice in November and I've spent the last 2 months trying to find a pain doc who will treat me but have been completely unsuccessful - and this is after going to over 15 doctors/practices. I've been on the fentanyl patch for almost 5 yrs and take vicodin for breakthrough pain.
