Gabapentin high

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin high

neurontin

Don't try to replace an opiate high with it. I just got prescribed Gabapentin last month, for opiate withdraws. I googled the snot out of it, came up with lots of info........ it causes drowiness at high doses (stoned), and weight gain. I'm only taking 300 mg per day, (i've read stories of 2400mg per day) aslso read that at 1000mg for longer than a month requires a taper down so you don't get WD's from it.
Such symptoms included agitation, disorientation and confusion after suddenly discontinuing Gabapentin that resolved after restarting Gabapentin. Most of these individuals had a history of poly-substance abuse or used Gabapentin to relieve symptoms of withdrawal from other substances. The dependence and abuse potential of Gabapentin has not been evaluated in human studies.
However the gabapentin has not seemed to help my hand, as this pain continues despite titrating to such a high dose. I recently started on amitriptyline for my neuropathic pain, am up to 50mg per day, and I think it is helping. The stabbing and burning sensations are lessened, although the numbness and incoordination remain. Because I seem to be responding better to this latter drug, I am now slowly weaning off the gabapentin.
Also, some drugs have to be at a higher dose to work while others can work in small doses and work together well with others..Gabapentin seems to work well at high doses. You will get used to the tiredness (if you have it) soon. If you need to get off of it it took me a long time because I didn't have antoher drug to substitute to get off of it with so I used Benedryl to sleep because if you go off of it you taper and it gives you insomnia.
Has anyone ever been put on gabapentin for severe anxiety/panic disorder? My doctor just prescribed it for me to help ween me off xanax that I've been on for 7 years. Was wondering if this has ever helped anyone?
So my dr gave me gabapentin for tramadol withdrawals. It has helped wonderfully. This was 7 days ago. So I think I am over the withdrawals from the tramadol but I have been taking high doses of gabapentin in that 7 days. Like anywhere from 900-1800mg a day to stave off withdrawals. My question is how long will it take to develop a gabapentin addiction because I've read horror stories about the withdrawals.

Now this new guy armed with the MRI that should have been done with contrast puts me on Neurontin (Gabapentin) working up to high doses for a month with instructions to come back if it dosen't fix the problem.I haven't been feeling well(besides the back) so my PCP did a viral count, blood work and was alarmed by the results right around 39,000.
My other question is, I should be picking up gabapentin next week to minimise tingling in legs (I wanted to get back to gym but can not put up with frequent tingling). Has anyone got experience with this med? Does it work? Does it minimise tingling? How long can one be on t? Many thanks for any iinfo and ideas.
Hi Guys, has anyone out there been on Gabapentin without weight gain??? I've only been on it a few months, and I have gained about 8 lbs. already. What other, if there is another.... pain control can we use that DOES not make us Gain weight. It also makes me kinda spacey, but does seem to help sometimes. I was wondering if it is OK to taper down the dose and would that help..?? Hope someone can help me with this one....
I am not familiar with any of the other medications for these types of symptoms - the Gabapentin is the first one I have taken. It is my understanding that the Gabapentin is the one with the fewest side effects...but of course everyone is different, so that may not be the case for everyone who tries it.
Izel62711 is a new member that has just been prescribed gabapentin for pain on the left side of her ribs. SHe is concerned about the medication. I have taken gabapentin for neuropathic foot pain. It worked well for a while, in tandem with Elavil. I had no side effects, but it eventually stopped working, so I swithed to another anti-seizure med called Lyrica. Anyone else have gabapentin experience to share?
I can't believe how well gabapentin has worked. I've been thru the withdrawals going cold turkey 3 times in the past without anything to help. I was presribed gabapentin about a month ago for pain. It didn't help for that. I did some research on it and it is used for withdrawals. It has been 90% easier than before and trust me, I know how bad it is. The only syptoms I have had this time is I'm just a little cold and a bit of anxiety but nothing like before.
I've tried to reduce on a few occasions, but I really feel it, and since I don't experience any side effects from this med, I stay on the high dose. I also take 60-80mg of nortriptyline at night. I get greater pain relief with this combination of these two meds than on either of them on their own. And yes, I do notice when I miss a dose of either one. Are you taking Neurontin for neuropathic pain? You definitely have room to increase. Talk to your doc.
When will feel a change in my back and leg pain since I have trlpled my dose of gabapentin from 600mg I a day to 600mg 3 times a day?

my 120 lb poodle has artheritis and my vet game me a prescription of gabapentin 300 mgs. He wants me to give him 2 pills every 12 hrs.
I was prescribed gabapentin after surgery, for the nerve pain I was having in my legs. The dosage was gradually increased to 600 mg, three times a day. It really did the trick. The doctor told me i would be on the meds for about 6 mos. Over the last 10 days I have been gradually decreasing the dosage and am now on 1 600mg tablet at night. Has anybody had trouble getting to sleep at night and if yes, what did you do?
Is there anyone that has been on this med for a long time and at a high dose? And what are the side effects of long term high doses? (other than the generically silly ones they give on some sites)...I want PERSONAL experiences..
Amitriptyline helped with the muscle twitching and pain but not numbness - side effects mornings a nightmare as drowsy. Gabapentin helping with numbness but side effects acne and muscle twitching a bloody nightmare.
iv been on gabapentin for 5 days for pain im been sick 4 to 5 times aday feeling really emosinal and feeling really bad is this side affects normal sammy
Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose. I personally use gabapentin for nerve pain and control of motor skills in my arm. My neurologist told me that gabapentin isn't really a drug that "cures" anything, more so it helps with the neurological symptoms associated with some illnesses. I know my pain hasn't been "cured", but it has been made bearable.
Can someone tell me what Gabapentin or tizanidine is? What its used for and will it help with suboxone withdrawals? Any info would help. Thanks.
I've been prescribed Gabapentin to control symptoms of neuropathy in my feet. The nerve damage presented during a course of interferon treatment and still hasn't improved close to three years later. I'm afraid of the drug but am quite weary of dealing with chronic nerve pain. (Btw, I take 600 mgs of ALA daily and haven't found it especially helpful.) Would you mind sharing your experiences with me, both the good and bad?
Today his Dr. gave him a script for Gabapentin. My sons girlfriend thinks he would be better off not taking anything. I think Gabapentin should be taken for short periods of time or it can be addicting too. What do you think?
I was prescribed gabapentin along with my Fentanly, but the pharmacist kind of scared me due to the doses I was prescribed. I was to start on 300mg. capsules 3 times a day, then the next week go up to 6-300 capsules (2-3 times a day), then the next week 9 capsules per day ( 3-300mg, capsules per day). I had never taken it before, and when the Pain Management Dr. told me that I might start walking into walls!, (which I forgot to even TELL the pharmecist!

Wait, what? DANGER, WILL ROBINSON. That's right. Gabapentin can get you high. And does, if your brain's wired for it (in the same way my body's not wired to get anything from benzos). Not only that, but our bodies adjust to it frighteningly fast, to the point of having to double up the dose only a few days later in order to get the same effect. I'm sure you can see why this would be perilous territory for an addict.
