Gabapentin high

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin high

neurontin

Avatar m tn Don't try to replace an opiate high with it. I just got prescribed Gabapentin last month, for opiate withdraws. I googled the snot out of it, came up with lots of info........ it causes drowiness at high doses (stoned), and weight gain. I'm only taking 300 mg per day, (i've read stories of 2400mg per day) aslso read that at 1000mg for longer than a month requires a taper down so you don't get WD's from it.
Avatar m tn Overdosage A lethal dose of Gabapentin was not identified in mice and rats receiving single oral doses as high as 8000 mg/kg. Signs of acute toxicity in animals included ataxia, labored breathing, ptosis, sedation, hypoactivity, or excitation. Acute oral overdoses of Gabapentin up to 49 grams have been reported. In these cases, double vision, slurred speech, drowsiness, lethargy, and diarrhea, were observed. All patients recovered with supportive care.
293157 tn?1285873439 However the gabapentin has not seemed to help my hand, as this pain continues despite titrating to such a high dose. I recently started on amitriptyline for my neuropathic pain, am up to 50mg per day, and I think it is helping. The stabbing and burning sensations are lessened, although the numbness and incoordination remain. Because I seem to be responding better to this latter drug, I am now slowly weaning off the gabapentin.

6937315 tn?1386287618 Has anyone ever been put on gabapentin for severe anxiety/panic disorder? My doctor just prescribed it for me to help ween me off xanax that I've been on for 7 years. Was wondering if this has ever helped anyone?
Avatar f tn Also, some drugs have to be at a higher dose to work while others can work in small doses and work together well with others..Gabapentin seems to work well at high doses. You will get used to the tiredness (if you have it) soon. If you need to get off of it it took me a long time because I didn't have antoher drug to substitute to get off of it with so I used Benedryl to sleep because if you go off of it you taper and it gives you insomnia.
Avatar m tn Now this new guy armed with the MRI that should have been done with contrast puts me on Neurontin (Gabapentin) working up to high doses for a month with instructions to come back if it dosen't fix the problem.I haven't been feeling well(besides the back) so my PCP did a viral count, blood work and was alarmed by the results right around 39,000.
Avatar f tn So my dr gave me gabapentin for tramadol withdrawals. It has helped wonderfully. This was 7 days ago. So I think I am over the withdrawals from the tramadol but I have been taking high doses of gabapentin in that 7 days. Like anywhere from 900-1800mg a day to stave off withdrawals. My question is how long will it take to develop a gabapentin addiction because I've read horror stories about the withdrawals.

Avatar f tn From what I understand, there's a few differences. First, pregabalin cost a lot more than gabapentin. That's cause gabapentin is generic. Lyrica (pregablin) is effective for fibromyalgia when gabapentin is not. gabapentin often requires 1800mg / day to work (built up slowly over time), while pregabalin can be effective at 150mg TID. And the change of side effects build as the does is increased.

359574 tn?1328360424 I'm on gabapentin right now for nerve pain. There isn't any real problems to worry about. It does take a little while to kick in, though---I didn't notice results until 2 months on the pills. Also, if your dosage is increased, you might feel a little dizzy the first few days as you adjust. Otherwise, I like the results I've been given.
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Guys, has anyone out there been on Gabapentin without weight gain??? I've only been on it a few months, and I have gained about 8 lbs. already. What other, if there is another.... pain control can we use that DOES not make us Gain weight. It also makes me kinda spacey, but does seem to help sometimes. I was wondering if it is OK to taper down the dose and would that help..?? Hope someone can help me with this one....
Avatar f tn Since I started taking gabpentin for nerve issues I havd noticed a decline in my cravings for crack cocaine. In addition when I do use I do get high - so it appears if this continues I will hopefully be able to put that pipe down forever - at least I hope.
Avatar m tn Can someone tell me what Gabapentin or tizanidine is? What its used for and will it help with suboxone withdrawals? Any info would help. Thanks.
Avatar n tn You mean for a total of 600 Mg of Zoloft, 450 Mg Effexor and 900 Mg of Gabapentin each day? If so you better talk to your doctor about this dosing. 250 mg of Zoloft (per day) is about the Max and 350 Mg of Effexor per day is about max also. Not sure on the other drug. Either way those dosages sound high to me.
1805240 tn?1317228731 If I am calculating your dose correctly you are on 600mgs of a Gabapentin. This is not a high dose and you may want to discuss an increase of the Gabapentin with your physician. There are other similar medications that may be more beneficial too. This is a discussion that needs to be between you and your physician. The journey through Chronic Pain is not easy.... but with a good physician and the right medications it can be easier. I hope you will find a solution to your increasing pain.
Avatar f tn I am om hydromorphone, gabapentin,500 mg tylono snce last April. I have become jittery. Now they want to add effexor. I am getting frightened by all this.
620877 tn?1282764097 For those of you who take Gabapentin (Neurontin): Just curious what side effects you have experienced (and at what dosage), and how long they lasted? I just started this last weekend, 300mg once a day at bedtime. I am having a really hard time waking up in the morning and for the first half of the day I feel a little "loopy" or my head feels "swimmy"....if that makes any sense.....
Avatar m tn ve been having muscular pain in the shoulder area around the teres major/minor or infraspinitus it feels like somebody is twisting the muscle sending pain shooting down my arm, my doctor has prescribed first co codamol 30-500s then gave me gabapentin then changed the co-codamol to dihydrocodine, the problem i have is that the amount i was prescribed to take is not working , I have increased the dosage of gabapentin (as suggested by doctor) to 900mg and the dihydrocodine (not by doctors advice) t
1318483 tn?1318347182 Hi Addi I am sorry for your discomfort. It would seem to me that if you were on that high of a dose of gabapentin (well over the maximum recommended as far as I have learned) then 75 mg of Lyrica 2x daily is a Very low dose. I was on 2700mg gabapentin daily before we gave up and I am up to 200mg Lyrica 2x daily. So you can see the comparison there. I don't know if your new pain in your feet is a side effect.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
1831849 tn?1383228392 I have been on gabapentin for 2 months, It helps somewhat with pain, it helped me to sleep very sound, until this week, I can't seem to get to sleep and awake alot during the night.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed gabapentin after surgery, for the nerve pain I was having in my legs. The dosage was gradually increased to 600 mg, three times a day. It really did the trick. The doctor told me i would be on the meds for about 6 mos. Over the last 10 days I have been gradually decreasing the dosage and am now on 1 600mg tablet at night. Has anybody had trouble getting to sleep at night and if yes, what did you do?
Avatar m tn Just wanted to let everyone know how things are going. I can't believe how well gabapentin has worked. I've been thru the withdrawals going cold turkey 3 times in the past without anything to help. I was presribed gabapentin about a month ago for pain. It didn't help for that. I did some research on it and it is used for withdrawals. It has been 90% easier than before and trust me, I know how bad it is.
Avatar m tn Hello, I am new to this group. I have had more than 85 blood tests since I was diagnosed with Lyme in July of 2014. All have been negative. I have been on may drugs for pain and currently on Gabapentin for vocal cord/coughing issues and leg pain (knee, calf, left side back). I don't think it is helping much. Is anyone else on Gabapentin?
Avatar f tn Has anyone expierence swelling of the face with gabapentin? I know it can be a side effect. My question is; Is this an allergic reaction or is the dosage too much? Actually my face feels stiff at times and cheeks get sore. If it is the gabapentin, what would be the alternative? Thank you med help family........
