Gabapentin for restless legs

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin for restless legs

neurontin

Avatar m tn It's associated with kidney problems, pregnancy, and iron deficiency. And you don't have to be anemic to be low enough on iron to experience RLS. If you have restless legs, you should have your serum ferritin checked: This is a measure of body iron stores-not just your hemoglobin and hematocrit, which is what doctors test for when they suspect anemia. If it's below 30, supplement with iron for two months.
Avatar f tn Hi, Not sure about everyone else but I know that for me the restless legs is one of the worst symptoms. I told my doctor that I was struggling and he prescribed me Ropinirole tablets, one to take before bedtime. I took one last night and, fingers crossed, it seemed to work. Most of you are probably aware of this but for those who aren't, it might be worth a try.
Avatar n tn Every time my entire legs hurt, they are always cold to touch. I also suffer from severe Restless Legs Syndrome. I wake up every night at 2-3 AM and am either restless or in pain, or both, staying awake for several hours sometimes unable to sleep. In mornings, I have associated heaviness and pulling tired sensations. I have fatigue, probably secondary to the insomnia. I require Norco 10/325 QID and even that is not sufficient for full relief. EMG/NCS negative.
Avatar f tn I have RLS, and I have the painful kind, where my legs hurt all the time, I take codeine for it. Lots of things do trigger RLS and make it worse, but I have no idea how the thyroid works with that. There is an rls.org website that has a list of stuff that can make RLS worse. Remember "worse" is generally temporary, like a lot of standing one day will make your legs hurt more for a while, until you've had a chance to rest.
Avatar f tn I have suffered from a form of restless leg for over 20 years, when my brain wants to relax especially at bed time, my leg muscles in top & bottom start to go into spasm, causing my legs to kick out. Its so sever that if prevents me from falling asleep. I am on tablets called Ropinerol they work to a point but the older I get the worse the spasms get.
Avatar f tn Is there any help out there for itchy legs? I have been reading about other people suffering with symptoms like mine. It doesn't sound very encouraging. I have been suffering for several years now. I've tried different lotions but nothing seems to help. Mine seems to be worse during the winter when I have to wear long pants. There is no rash to be seen but I have to scratch sometimes making my legs bleed. It keeps me awake at night.
Avatar m tn I am a 39 year old male that has suffered for years with restless legs, leg/joint pain, both of which have caused many sleepless nights. The pain is more noticeable during weather changes (doesn't matter if its warm to cold or cold to warm). My legs twitch almost constantly and is very noticeable especially when sleeping, I have been told i have had my legs have spasmed to my chest. I have also had multiple arthroscopic knee surgeries due to a parachuting accident when i was younger.

Avatar n tn I have been on gabapentin for about three weeks and my back and stomach are broke out in hives or my daughterin law says they look like boils on my back .
Avatar n tn I actually slept through for two nights in a row. The drugs name is Gabapentin. It makes you sleepy so it is taken at bed time. They have me on 300mg capsules and I take 1-2 at bedtime. My cat was finally able to lay on my upper leg last night and I didn't have to throw her off. So I would suggest this medication. I don't know what other medications your on so be sure to check for interactions with this drug with the others you may be taken.
Avatar f tn When I run out before I pick up my next script I find that Gabapentin really helps with the restless legs, sleep etc. It is almost like a universal drug. I heard that Gabapentin used to be used for Opiate withdrawl but I can't remenber where I heard that from. WEhat have you headr about Gabapentin and it's uses? If you could let me know it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks and I wish you all the luck in your carck addiction...

620923 tn?1452915648 When it is really bad it can last as little as 30 minutes (hands) or all day (legs). The bad pain usually it last for a couple of hours and then calms down some. Does it flare? There are good days and bad days. I haven’t been able to figure out what exactly triggers it though. I know that exercise usually has negative effects. The days following I will be really sore and feel like I got beat up. Sometimes my legs ache because of the weather (rain, cold), but it’s hit or miss.

Avatar f tn s experience with one drug may vary, this drug is usually indicated for moderate- to -severe primary Restless Legs Syndrome. Take is exactly as prescribed and watch out for the more common side effects such as sleepiness, dizziness or blurring of vision. Take care and regards.
7827044 tn?1399391443 Please ignore this original post. I am back to taking the gabapentin and no long blame it for all my issues I had going on. I feel better now taking it again and will NEVER again quit a medicine cold turkey. Worst experience ever.
Avatar m tn How long have you been taking it? That will really factor in to how bad the w/ds' are. IMHO 1mg is not a real high dose to jump at.. I did 4mg twice.. I wanted it over with.. Tapering iwth sub takes time.. so if you have the time do it.. but it really depends on how long you have been taking the sub and what strength are you using as Pillguy asked the 2mg or 8mg.. That will make a difference too. Don't worry too much...
1179332 tn?1297478990 At you point in my past my doctor put me on Sinemet (sp?) for restless legs. If I remember correctly it is a Parkinson's medication. I also took it at a very low dose. I couldn't tell you if it worked or not cause it turn's out I had an allergic reaction to it. But it might be worth inquiring about.
Avatar f tn Muscle relaxers might work but not for long. Hylands RLS worked wonders for me and for others but everyone is different. It's over the counter.
1591337 tn?1297101349 try my fetal stretch. I have been suffering with severe restless legs syndrome for 35 years. A month ago, I accidently found a method to eliminate the symptoms for approximatel 24 hours. I call it the fetal stretch and it has changed my life. When i feel the symptoms resuming, i simply lay on my side, get into a very tight fetal position, really stretching the back and legs, hold for 2 minutes, release, and symptoms disappear for about 24 hours.
Avatar n tn I'm 8 weeks pregnant with my second child and my restless legs are giving me a fit. Does anyone have this problem or any things I can try for relief? I'm at my wits end because it's affecting my sleep and my sanity! Thanks for any suggestions.
Avatar f tn But you may need sleep aids. For me, melatonin worked best. All this plus Hylands Restless Legs and heating pads..
