Avatar f tn I take 300mg Neurontin at night for Migraine prevention and have gained 5 pounds on it over the course of 6 weeks. I hope that that the weight gain will taper off.
768044 tn?1294223436 In the Migraines and Headaches Community, tia1977 posted a question asking what the best prescription for migraine prevention was. I think that this is a very interesting question that we probably all want to know the answer to and I still think that there is no simple answer since we are all so individual and unique... BUT! I remembered an article I read called "Evidence-Based Guidelines for Migraine Headache in the Primary Care".
Avatar n tn I have recently been prescribed Verapamil for migraine prevention but I'm also taking Norvasc. Should these medications be taken together? The Norvasc was prescribed a number of years ago by a different doctor for Migraine prevention. It hasn't helped my migraines but I've continued to take it. Since they are both blood pressure meds, I'm doubtful I should take both.
Avatar f tn to treatments: Propranalol (Inderal; for tremor reduction and/or migraine prevention) Celexa (antidepressant) to events: busy day (or some other brief phrase about overdoing things) Thank you.
Avatar m tn I was intialkly prescribed Tramadol for the pain, and then Nortriptyline for migraine prevention. I started at 25mg once at night. That decreased the headaches probably about 50% then moved to 50mg at bedtime. That didn't really help the headaches anymore, but I began to notice the side effects. I was REALLY drowsy and I started to have mood swings (I'd be sad or anxious for no reason). So, we decided to go back down to 25mg again. Also...
Avatar f tn I have been on Gabapentin for years. It is a generic for Neurontin, which is prescribed as an anti-seizure med, but off label is prescribed for nerve pain. It usually takes higher doses for nerve pain. I was taking 900 mg per day, 3 am, 3 noon, and 3 nightly. Now I take 3 at night and 2 during the day. I am on other pain meds to help with the pain from 2-level cervical disc herniation and multi-level DDD and radiculopathy in my arm, hand, back and leg.
1088430 tn?1259159773 I am currently taking anywhere from 300mg to 600mg of Magnesium citrate a day. The recommended dose for migraine prevention that has been proven in scientific trials is 400mg per day (in one trial) and 600mg per day (in another trial)... so, basically, I think that if 400mgs works, then that's all you should take. But, some people find that more is helpful, or sometimes people's doctors will prescribe more.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Gabapentin 100 mg for a couple of days and have had severe migraine slash sinus headache ever since. What does be from the medicine?
Avatar f tn s original indication was for seizure disorders at a much higher dose than I listed above, numerous post-marketing studies have been done showing benefit for anxiety, migraine prevention, sleep cycle disorders, and panic attacks. You might want to discuss this with your provider on your next visit. I hope this helps...
2024985 tn?1328846203 You will eventually come to a risk-benefit formula that works best for you, balancing the need for steroids, either inhaled or oral, with their side effects, with the reduction in frequency of potentially life-threatening episodes. There is no "one shoe-fits-all".
128966 tn?1212772935 hi Shazz, The reason i asked about the stress and depression is that this usually are the triggers for migraine. Aside from Lexapro, it would also be good to relax, de-stress and avoid, if possible, from being depressed. This will definitely decreased your migraine attacks. Have fun:) Take care and keep us posted.
1132246 tn?1260288259 You are only supposed to take 1 pill in 24 hours but this is the only thing I found that will take away my migraine!! We are leaving for mexico in 2 days and I have my Relpax packed and ready for an attack!! That's how much confidence I have in this drug. I am also taking magnessium and feverfew daily but found that taking 800 mg 2 times a day gave me bad runs. So I am only taking 500 mg a day.
1807779 tn?1333840302 I take fiorcet whenever I have a bad headache. It works well for me.
Avatar m tn I am now taking hydrochlorothiazide (both for moderate hight blood pressure and to lower my water levels for the inner ear), and gabapentin for a neck spine condition (unrelated to the vertigo). My PCM states I am "suspect" for Minear's Syndrome but has not made a clinical diagnosis as of yet. Bottom line is I am trying to find a way back to normal. My work requires me to get up into high places (aircraft mechanic) and this condition is keeping me from my work.
Avatar m tn Some types of migraines can present like this, not much fun, but could even be a migraine, do you get any other symptoms with this electrical charge, mine feel like bolts of lighting shooting through my head, they are painful like touching an electric fence, I take both migraine meds and another drug called Gabapentin which is an anticonvulsant that is used to treat epilepsy, but they have found this medicine to be helpful for people with MS that are experiencing neuropathic pain.
768044 tn?1294223436 But, everything on the original list I gave you are common first line preventative treatments for migraine prevention that lots of people who use the migraine tracker take... so adding all of them would be helpful. But, personally, for me, the addition of Botox Injections, Beta Blockers, Magnesium and Coenzyme Q10 to the migraine tracker would be helpful.
Avatar f tn When I tried getting off of them over about 3-4 weeks along with not taking my COQ10 and Magnesium, I had the very worst migraine ever. This time at the ER, nothing helped me. I had a severe, vomiting migraine for 60 hours straight. Then the only thing that helped me was sleeping. So I went back on all three and since then my headaches have been mostly mild which is a major accomplishment for me since they were 24/7 severe since a major stroke. I also get some other treatments and meds.
Avatar f tn I was on it before for migraine prevention. Doc had me stop it a month before coming off my birth control.
237152 tn?1206651036 s why they start you out on a low dose and move you up over several weeks. I took it for migraine prevention and it changed my taste of everything. I hated it but it is good for migraine prevention and anti-seizures pain etc. I finally adjusted to it, I felt like you at first. I just hate all medication but sometimes you don't have an option.
Avatar f tn I have had a "migraine" for over a year now and nothing has helped. I have been on migraine preventatives, gabapentin, morphine, blood pressure meds, anti-anxiety medication, amitryptiline, Thorazine, steroids, you name it I have taken it. I have also had MRI's, CT scans, sinus surgery, lumbar punctures (5) and blood work multiple times. I have seen 3 neurologists, a headache specialist, acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic.... EVERYTHING!
Avatar f tn I saw a headache specialist for this on a regular basis. If I developed a migraine that lasted for more then a week I would see the Dr., who would prescribe a 'burst' to zap the headache. We always found that my headaches would respond to Methergine. I finally decided that because my headaches were under control and the triggers were identified ( inflammation and strain from neck ), I could turn my med. prescriptions over to my PC Physician in order to eliminate so many appts.
1397091 tn?1296576718 I had a migraine start last Monday and tried to tough it out with a few hydrocodon and phenegren. It got worse so I broke down and went to th ER four days later and that nasty lady doc was there. I still have the stabbing pain behind my left eye, it won't go away. Thank God it was put in my charts that I was to be givin stadol for migraines. She only gave me 1mg but at that point I didn't care just needed some relief. She took 1 and a half hours to get to me.
734343 tn?1239601741 I get food cravings after a migraine has worn off completely.... and sometimes it's for the things that trigger my migraines, like cheese or chocolate!! I don't get it at all!!
Avatar n tn Why were you taking it? For your heart or for migraine? If you were taking it for your heart it could increase your risk for angina or heart attack. you might need to try a different heart med.
Avatar f tn Hi Guys, Well I decided to go to my GP today because all my symptoms are getting to me! And I felt so confused! I am not sure if I am any less confused but I do feel happier for off loading my burden and my GP doesn't think I am crazy so this has made me feel better too. My Dr said migraines usually cause some numbness, pins and needles before the headache but not like what I am experiencing, so he does not think my stuff is from the migraines but probably from the TM!
