Avatar m tn The Gabapentin was given to me by my ENT doctor to help with vocal cord and coughing issues (maybe due to Lymes). My Neurologist also wanted me on Gabapentin for leg pain and leg restlessness (Peripheral Neuropathy-maybe due to Lymes) at night. My dosage keeps getting higher. But I still feel about the same. Pain in the back of my calf muscles, back of knees, both sides of knee and left lower back pain. Seems like the doctors are guessing. I have also be on Vicodin and Naproxen for pain.
3135572 tn?1342657739 I have been on gabapentin for a while now. 900 mg 4 x day. I have not had any twitching from it. I used to have the twitching before I started the med. Everyone reacts differently, so I would suggest checking out the side effects you can find a more comprehensive list on line. Check out the manufacturer web site.
529159 tn?1224991026 have you tried drinking tonic water with quinine? this is an old fashion remedy for leg cramps?
Avatar n tn Not to say gabapentin is side effect free but the only annoying side effect I had with gabapentin was a sore throat that persisted for 2-3 weeks and then went away. However, others have experienced dizziness on gabapentin. With both meds, the dose is slowly ramped up to a therapeutic amount. Typically, you are prescribed 1 capsule on the first day, 2 on the second day, and so on and so forth. This minimizes the side effects.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin works for some people and not for others. Compression of a nerve or nerve root typically isn’t helped that much by medications unless the compression is relieved first. Medications can help ease pain but not numbness once the compression is relieved.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Gabapentin may help control your condition but won’t cure it. You must continue taking gabapentin even if you feel well. You must not stop taking gabapentin even if you experience side effects like unusual changes in behavior or mood. If you suddenly stop taking gabapentin, you may experience withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, nausea. Your doctor would decrease the dose gradually over at least one week.

Avatar f tn About 6 months ago, almost nightly I began having recurring painful feet, or leg cramps, for which my doctor prescribed 100 MG of Gabapentin daily at bedtime. It hasn't helped and also, the warning sheet for side effects was scary. When I got my annual bloodwork done in May, my FREE T4 was high at 1.21. My doctor lowered my Synthroid dosage from 75 to 50 MCG.
293157 tn?1285873439 Hi everyone, I'm having a difficult time with my legs... I get these horrible pains in my thighs...usually it was my left leg only, now it's both legs. When I get up in the morning, it's not bad, but as the day progresses and with the small amount of walking I do at home the pain starts up.. It's really hard to explain it....it's in patches, comes and goes, burning feeling, achy too...it moves around to different areas of my legs..
Avatar f tn t have low potassium (which can cause muscle cramps)? A friend of mine took neurontin, tried acupuncture and used ice for his shingles. He still had flare ups on his head where it bothered him last I knew and was using a soft ice pak.
Avatar f tn I became addicted to oxycodone 15mg in 2012 after my first back surgery, obviously I was on them while I was in the hospital for 7days after surgery then took them for about 4 days once I got home. I tried to stop and became sick and realized I was addicted. I go to a pain clinic for my chronic pain. Since then I had surgery on my elbow and just 2 weeks ago I had another back surgery. My oxycodone has never been upped in dosage so of course it doesn't help with the pain.
Avatar m tn ve heard that neurontin or gabapentin is great for stopping the nerve pain associated with withdrawal. Has anyone had experience with this?
Avatar m tn t working that well, but if I stop taking it, what else is out there, and how would you tolerate it. If the Gabapentin seems to be working somewhat for you, I don't think I would do anything without talking to your GP and getting advice from him. Hope this helps, I tend to babble sometimes LOL ...
Avatar f tn I'm taking gabapentin for TN and occipital neuralgia (I assume is probably lessens the tingling in my arm and leg as well) and most of the time I have reasonable pain control. However, there are times when the pain really flares up and I'm not sure if there's anything I can do for that. I don't know if gabapentin (neurontin) has a "short term" effect--e.g. if I took an extra dose, would it help?
