Gabapentin for herniated disc

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin for herniated disc

neurontin

Avatar n tn Hi there. Herniated discs can cause moderate to severe pain due to nerve roots impingement by the disc matter exiting at that level. The therapeutic options for this are NSAIDs, epidural injections of steroids, physiotherapy and surgical decompression like discectomy and bone grafting. you need to consult a neurosurgeon for evaluation. You have been prescribed drugs like flexeril, muscle relaxant, gabapentin, anti convulsant used for neuropathic pain, opioids, etc.
Avatar f tn I had I had a car accident September 4 in the Florida 2017 and I live in New York, I and I found out I have 2 Herniated disc and a bulging ,One of the disc was bulge before after the accident it became herniated,I have 2 Bulge in the neck,I had one in the neck before after the accident I got another one, Now it’s pinched and sending pain down my left leg and left arm...I am on gabapentin medication....
Avatar m tn The pain from any nerve compression (like with herniated/bulging disc, osteophytes from arthritis causing narrowing of foramina pressing on particular radicular nerve) etc is indeed excruciating, especially at night. I should know--every disc in my back is herniated or bulging, and the pain you described is identical to some of mine. It is narcotic-worthy. And, it will pass most likely unless it has become chronic..
Avatar m tn This is true of gabapentin and pregabalin which were originally invented for seizures. Pregabalin is similar to gabapentin but has less side effects and often people who can not tolerate gabapentin benefit from pregabalin. However it is more expensive. The same is true for medications such as amitryptiline, which was originally used for depression but is now a mainstay of treatment for neuropathic pain. However, it has several side effects and may not be used in patients with heart problems.
Avatar f tn Had a couple numb toes and felt like a stone bruise on the bottom of my foot along with the horrible pain in my leg. Mine was caused by herniated disc on the nerve. Had 2 laminectomy which failed and still had the sciatic nerve pain. I found out about a med called neurontin (generic is gabapentin) and within an hour of starting this med the pain had let up quiet a bit - the next morning the sciatic nerve pain was about 97% gone.
1039200 tn?1314912008 I suffer from bi-polar disorder herniated disks and i take gabapentin, morphine for that and triliptal for bi-polar, which they dont seem to be working as well as they used to anymore so ive asked my pharmacist what she recommends and she recommended lyrica. As you know pharmacists know way more about drugs than doctors, but I am super excited to get started on my Lyrica tomorrow!
Avatar n tn I was only getting the injections until I was rear ended and now my L4 to S1 is now herniated with a tear at S1 with disc protrusion. That is why they put me on Gabapentin. I have been doing the injections for a few years now and with a good doctor the injections will last longer then others. I would not worry yourself about the injections and blocker doing more damage. They are to make like more comfortable and assist you in motion for daily life.
Avatar f tn I had been diagnosed with a small herniated disc in my lower back. Lumbar l-5. I have been dealing with back pain since April 2015. Avatar m tn Herniated disc doesn’t cause swollen glands in the neck. Please consult a neurologist for the treatment of the herniated disc and examination of the swollen glands in the neck to find out the cause of swelling. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards!

Avatar m tn is the postero paramediane position of the herniated disc,is it a bad position or a regular position of the herniated disc. Cause they say to me that the postero paramediane is not the common position where the herniated disc exits.

I also have a little arthritis and slight scoliosis in my lower back, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalja, osteopenia and vitamin d deficiency (which should be okay just ended a 12 week of vitamin D pills that I took once a week. Someone suggested that I drink Gatorade which I did and last night wasn't so bad I was able to get a good amount of sleep.

Avatar m tn This material may sort of be squished out from in between the two bones; this is called a herniated disc. The disc may push on surrounding structures, namely the spinal cord and/or the nerves exiting from the spinal cord. Most often, it is the nerves that are pressed on, and not the spinal cord itself. In most people, the pain of a herniated disk resolves over 4-6 weeks. The most severe pain actually eases up within 1-2 weeks. Only a minority of people every require surgery.
Avatar n tn The pain is unilateral-right and most severe on the top and side of the head and at the base of the neck. Her right eye tears and right nostril runs. She has a herniated disc in her neck but the doctors have said this is unrelated. Steroids helped a while back, but now they're back again and steroids, antiseizure meds, and painkillers don't help. A couple doctors have looked at the MRIs and haven't found anything obvious.

Avatar n tn The most common cause of a foot drop is peroneal nerve injury at the level of the knee, although patients who have lower back problems such as degenerative disc disease may experience foot drop as a result of a herniated disc at the L5 nerve root level where the peripheral nerve exits the spinal cord, known as an L5 radiculopathy. Although your symptoms initially sound like they were primarily motor, it sounds as though you have developed symptoms typical for a peripheral sensory neuropathy.
