Gabapentin for headaches

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin for headaches

neurontin

Avatar f tn Gabapentin is a good drug for some things, and not for others. General side affects are things like headaches, stomach pain, dizziness, dry mouth, sleepiness---the normal things that can happen when you go on any drug. Most of the time, gabapentin doesn't have extreme ill affects on anyone unless you skip a dose. I do know of people who say the drug can be addicted in high doses. Considering that you're just starting the medication, I wouldn't guess you'll be on a high dose.
Avatar n tn I am a 50 yr old male. I was prescribed Gabapentin for neurological pain management by the VAMC in Tampa, Florida. According to some post I've read, Gabapentin is a med that one must be weened off of. I've been taking Gabapentin off and on to help with pain so I can sleep. I don't take it all the time because of the side effects. Sometimes, but not all the time, I feel like I'm having a bad hangover after the medication wears off.
Avatar f tn Hi could anyone help me please?
Avatar f tn I have tried Tizanadine in the past but for some reason that medication gives me bad headaches. Can any one recommend any thing that may work better for me to mention to my doctor?
Avatar f tn I am supposed to start taking two 100 mg capsules of Gabapentin at bedtime for the continuing head to toe pain since tx three years ago, and am wondering what to expect. If anyone has tried it for pain I'd like to hear about it.
Avatar m tn Lyrica is still one of the newer ones but works really well. I take Topamax and Lyrica. I take Topamax for headaches and Lyrica for neuropathic pain. My pain is well controlled but they do have their side effects.
Avatar f tn He also may want to try something like Topamax, Lyrica or Gabapentin which does work for some. I hope this has been of a little help to you and please know that my thoughts are with you as you struggle with this pain and please know you are NOT alone!
Avatar n tn I was on 900 mg of gabapentin daily for over a year for peripheral neuropathy - it neither caused headaches, loss of thinking ability, nor did it lower my IQ... And no, it doesn't have opiates.
Avatar m tn For the past 2 months headaches and lighthead .... have done almost every test all negitive . What can I do ??????
Avatar m tn If you look into opiates they cause an increase in intercranial pressure and are likely to cause rebound headaches if you suffer from headaches already so they are usually a last choice for headaches. I get that part. However, there are several other non narcotic options, has he tried any of those??? In the ER we are no longer allowed to give narcotics for migraines or headaches...its a cocktail of different meds and most leave headache free. I would hold out on jumping into opiates....
Avatar f tn I took gabapentin 3 X day for 7 weeks to prepare me for brain surgery (4.6 cm meningioma--all ok) It made me EXTREMELY physically unstable. I had to have help walking and could not drive. That was 11 months ago. I still need help if standing to long or if I am in a room with a lot of people. Way wobbly. Dr said maybe a year and l'll be ok. I don;t think it is from the surgery, I think it is Gabapentin related. That's how it feels. Anybody else?????
Avatar f tn t do my job any more now when I concentrate I get a bad headache it hurts all the time I am seeing a nuroigist at OHSU she thinks that my pain resistors are screwed up from surgery and meningitis I had Botox injections a month ago and I feel that they are not helping a few days ago we took a vacation I live at 4000 feet we went to the beach we got there I was a little light headed but felt good we stayed for 6 days I had some headaches but I was much better we headed home and at about 2000 feet
1143135 tn?1277940418 I've been getting headaches at the base of the back of my head for years! In fact, almost any time I ever got a headache it was at the back of my head, although in the past 16 months (since I first realized there was something wrong) I have had headaches in my temples and at the top of my head as well., I was dx'd MS 3 months ago. I've been on 1200mg Gabapentin for 3 months, but still get the headaches, mostly at the back of my head.
Avatar m tn hi, had headaches for the last 3years been put on gabapentin , iv found what feels like a small hard lump behind ear ,
Avatar f tn She is a frequent headache sufferer already and takes Gabapentin daily. We were thinking it was due to her period at first, but the headaches seem to be lasting longer than usual. Also she has been feeling wobbly throughout the day. Could these symptoms be stress related? She had a panic attack yesterday before an exam. Plus, she's double majoring, one of which is in engineering. Advice?
1364792 tn?1278051187 I get headaches all the time. I believe this is a symptom of MS in my case. Think about it (but not too hard, you don't want to get a headache lol), if you have brain lesions, couldn't they cause headaches? I think they could. I take tramacet as required for headache relief. My headache frequency seems to be quite a bit less now that I'm on gabapentin, but sometimes i still need the tramacet. I often wake up with a headache that goes away on its own.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I also applaud Gabapentin (neurontin) it works well for me also but does take some tapering or getting used to, I should say
Avatar f tn I found this drug did not help my sleeping although it says it causes sleepiness. Gabapentin helps for my sleeping with no side effects to speak of BUT watch what you mix Gabapentin with. It can have side effects with other medication so I have to monitor what I take and when.
620923 tn?1452915648 So the neourligst is put me on the drug called Neurontin 100 mg three times a day, to see if that helps for the headaches. so far nothing , but she said it could take up to 2 weeks before I noticed something. So know i wait and go to theraphy and see if this helps. The dr from cleveland said that it the symptoms are still bothering me in 6 months then I need to go and have a MRI with a CSF folw study done. So that is where I am. Has anybody taken Neurontin for Chiari headaches???
Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
