Gabapentin dosage for neuropathy

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin dosage for neuropathy

neurontin

Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
Avatar m tn diabetes, B12 deficiency etc., internist sent me for NCV test. The doc who performed the test found neuropathy in legs and recommended MRI of brain and cervical spine. Brain MRI showed lesions but my doc did not think this indicative of MS. She sent me for lumbar MRI. Nothing significant showed on that to explain foot problems. By now pain had been so bad I could hardly walk at times. Then it would ease up a bit. Numbness, paresthesias and fasciculations driving me mad.
Avatar f tn One of the main ones is Duloxetine, which is a generic for Cymbalta. I take that for my neuropathy… It helps considerably, but doesn’t eliminate the pain. If you look it up, Cymbalta (Duloxetine) is listed as an anti-depressant, but it’s used “off label” quite often for pain. Check with your doctor and see if that might be possibility for you.
Avatar n tn Is this for neuropathy??Just curious I was taking neurontin for a while and it worked really well.(till I found out I was alergic.) My grandmother who also had extremely painful neuropathy also took neurontin and had great success. Just a thought I don't know much about what your problem with the feet is. Ours was due to diabetes. Hers was type II, mine is type I.
Avatar m tn This is a question for your local pharmacist. As far as I know it doesn't but I'm no pharmacist either.
1645454 tn?1301109800 Am currently taking 300 mgs Gabapentin q 4 hrs for Trigeminal Neuralgia and now, severe neuropathy from knees to feet. While it helps with the TN, it's not helping with the neuropathy. So, am going to try Lyrica. My question is: what would the same dosage of Lyrica be? The doc just told me 100 mgs Lyrica 3X a day?
1475202 tn?1536270977 Thank you for any suggestions. My dosage is 300mg twice daily. I have tried reducing it by half for one week and noticed no change so I increased back to the prescribed dosage since my conserns of a more severe seizure.
Avatar f tn When I take Neurotin(Gabapentin) and it stops working, I start doubling up. I have a strong tolerance to medication as well. Just to start I have to take 2 at a time, but when it stops working I have to take 4. I'm on Oxy Morphone for pain, Neurotin, and Robaxin. Even with all of that, I still have breakthrough pain.
Avatar f tn Dentist just say wait, but I can’t bear pain in my lower front 5 teeth’s, and dentist doesn’t care to do anything. I am on ibprufen 800 3 times a day, already completed antibiotic and steroid dosage for last 2 weeks, but no improvement. Still can’t open mouth much to eat proper food and feels pain 24 by 7. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I've been on gabapentin for a few years to manage pain from multiple spinal fusions (I've have 5 total fusions and I am totally fused from C2 down to T2), chronic pain & fibromyalgia. It used to help with the pain and excruciating neuropathy from all the damaged nerves but like most meds it lost its effectiveness over time. It kept getting increased and for at least the last 6 months my dosage has been 800mg/3x a day.
Avatar n tn I have taken tramodol for five years for my neuropathy and I swear by it!
1168718 tn?1464983535 Hi Candy I have been on lyrica for 4 yrs now gained about 20lbs but it has been a wonder drug for me no more neuropathy pain. the pain before was a 20 on the pain scale felt likea ice pick being jabbed into my legs over and over again.
280418 tn?1306325910 Should I go to Johns Hopkins and get a skin biopsy to check for small fiber neuropathy? Mine is idiopathic -not diabetic, not toxicity from vitamins or other toxins. Every test has come up normal - MRIs, Lumbar punctures, bloodwork etc.
Avatar f tn Traumatic neuropathy may be managed by systemic administration of gabapentin and/or amitriptyline with titrating dosage.nutritional supplement with Vitamin B1,B6, B12, folic acid and omega 3 fatty acid is helpful for nerve healing. Seeing a neurologist who is experienced in managing traumatic neuropathy is advised.
Avatar n tn I have post herpatic neuropathy. I have taken Tegretol and Gabapentin with good effect, however after a few months I developed terrible migranes. I've also tried Lyrica and Lamotragine with the same side effect. My neurologist has prescribed Topamax with these medications but it doesn't help the headaches. Normally I suffer from the very occasional headache and am a very healthy person. Triptans to do not relieve the migrane caused from the gapapentin.
1983221 tn?1333506185 I also applaud Gabapentin (neurontin) it works well for me also but does take some tapering or getting used to, I should say
Avatar f tn 12 and have chronic neuropathy in the right side of my entire body. I was put on Gabapentin by my doctor and was taking the Maximum a person can take in a day which is 3600mg a day now the doctor has backed off the Gabapentin to 900mg + added 450mg of Lyrica so far I don't feel a improvement, the Gabapentin was controlling the Nerve pain with hydrocodone 5-325 tab morning and noon but so far I haven't found any cure to just be normal again.
372366 tn?1284403873 I have been on Carbemazepine for about 15 years and have tried Topamax, Gabapentin, Lyrica all in combination but the Amitriptyline (Elavil) seems to have done the trick. Apparently it is a drug that used to be used as an antidepressant and now they use it almost strictly for pain control and it apparently works by making your R.E.M. sleep more restful or something like that...all I know is that it works for me and the only side effect is a dry mouth.
Avatar m tn Used to take high dose of gabapentin and no longer working and decided to try Lyrica. Dr.said if could get used to taking the amitripline during the day it could help and it does but can't function. Now back to just taking it at night and have to suffer all day as the lyrica isn't doing it for me Just hoping someone has a suggestion for daytime relief. Thanks for helping.
Avatar n tn My 9 yr old daughter is the same. She can barely walk for the pain in her feet, her hands are getting worse as well. We have much more testing to go through but the neurologist said she has this neuropathy and autonomic dysfunction. She's been started on gabapentin but it's not helping yet. But we aren't at full dosage yet. See a good neurologist and keep us posted. Praying for you.
Avatar f tn My vision changes anytime the dosage of gabapentin is changed, so I have had to update glasses almost every dosage change. Noticed certain fluorescent lights take time to adjust to, but can't say if it is connected to gaba. Initially when on 300mg/d, I learned if I skipped gaba a couple days, I would go through the adjustment side effects of dizziness, etc. all over again the next time I took it.
