Gabapentin dosage for nerve pain

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin dosage for nerve pain

neurontin

Avatar f tn The only possible scenario that I can think of to use gabapentin for balance is that it is given for neuropathy (nerve pain ) and the doc thinks perhaps the nerve pain will go away and you will have increased proprioception (the sense that tells us where are body parts, i.e. arms and legs, feet, etc. in relation to the ground and other body parts). Still I think that's a HUGE stretch, even off-label.
Avatar f tn It depends on if you have nerve or muscle pain or both. Plus many of us have issues besides MS. I for example have MS and Cancer. I also use Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation and Therapeutic Dressage (horse back riding) for pain control. A lot of my pain is made worse by a weak core and stress. I have to keep my core strong, stretch, and use mindfulness to keep the stress down.
359574 tn?1328360424 I'm on gabapentin right now for nerve pain. There isn't any real problems to worry about. It does take a little while to kick in, though---I didn't notice results until 2 months on the pills. Also, if your dosage is increased, you might feel a little dizzy the first few days as you adjust. Otherwise, I like the results I've been given.
Avatar n tn Regimen for traumatic trigeminal nerve injury: Nutritional supplements: VitaminB1,B6,B12, folic acid, and omega3 fatty acid.you can take more than recommended dose. Medications: Amitriptyline/nortriptyline,gabapentin/pregabalin,minocycline, and dexamethathone. Seeing a neurologist or Orofacial pain specialist who is familiar with management of nerve injury is advised.
Avatar f tn t know about the itching but I do know about Gabapentin. It made me nutty lol. My dr put me on Gabitril for my nerve pain and it worked wonders with no side effects. I do know you should talk to your dr if you have not already about lowering your dose on your own. Medications like this are sometimes worse to take yourself off of and need to be monitored by a dr.
Avatar n tn I was taking Gabapentin 300 mg for extreme nerve pain in my foot, it worked like magic for approx. 3 months then stopped being effective. Any Thoughts - Reasons?
Avatar f tn So at the end of the day have faith in your own feelings as you know what you are feeling and experiencing and I think you will find that most people find Gabapentin is very helpful for nerve pain and MS symptoms and it is just a matter of finding the dose that gives relief to you personally.
681148 tn?1437661591 Anyone who has taken Gabapentin (Neurontin) for a couple of months for the nerve pain post Shingles outbreak: What was the dosage you took to deal with the nerve pain and how long did you take it before the nerve pain stopped? I'm not concerned about the safety of the Neurontin at the low dosage I'm taking. I'm actually more concerned about the effectiveness.
Avatar m tn There is a drug called Lyrica that is supposed to work better than the Gabapentin. You might give that a try. I have nerve pain as well and the only thing that has helped me are the opiates. Sorry I cannot give you more advise.
Avatar f tn It is a generic for Neurontin, which is prescribed as an anti-seizure med, but off label is prescribed for nerve pain. It usually takes higher doses for nerve pain. I was taking 900 mg per day, 3 am, 3 noon, and 3 nightly. Now I take 3 at night and 2 during the day. I am on other pain meds to help with the pain from 2-level cervical disc herniation and multi-level DDD and radiculopathy in my arm, hand, back and leg.
1359227 tn?1282522148 I've been on it for several years for nerve pain. It has been, for the most part, effective. I am also on Cymbalta, also for nerve pain. These two meds, plus oxycodone, baclofen and nerve blocks provide considerable relief.
1263071 tn?1270294245 Hi there and welcome to the MS Forum, There are loads of people here both diagnosed and in limbo who can relate to your nerve pain and we all take different drugs, Lulu is right, sometimes you need to try a few things before you will find what is right for you. Please discuss this with your neurologist as chronic on going pain can lead to being very depressed if it's not controlled, well I know I ended up pretty miserable!
Avatar m tn How does allopathic medicine treat nerve “disorders?” One of the most commonly used drugs for epilepsy and nerve pain is Neurontin (gabapentine). And guess what? Gabapentine depletes magnesium and causes magnesium deficiency. Whereas if you take magnesium for nerve symptoms you actually have a chance of eliminating the cause of the problem.
Avatar f tn I'm taking gabapentin for TN and occipital neuralgia (I assume is probably lessens the tingling in my arm and leg as well) and most of the time I have reasonable pain control. However, there are times when the pain really flares up and I'm not sure if there's anything I can do for that. I don't know if gabapentin (neurontin) has a "short term" effect--e.g. if I took an extra dose, would it help?
Avatar n tn The pain usually lasts about 10 seconds, although it once lasted for over 2 minutes. The pain is intense -- like an extreme, intense version of cold sensitivity -- but I don't know that I'd describe it as shock-like, or as the worst pain I've ever felt. (I get frequent migraines, and I think that pain is worse.) I'm wondering if this is how TN normally begins -- if it begins mildly and sporadically, and then inevitably progresses to more extreme pain.
Avatar m tn I am currently using 8mg of buprenorphine,1800mg of gabapentin and 150mg of wellbutrin daily as medicine for pain management and nerve pain. Now I'cant obtain gabapentin anymore and would like to transfer to oxycodone 120mg daily as a substitute for buprenorphine and gabapentin.I would like to know is such change possible.
Avatar f tn Hi, so I've been using gabapentin for withdrawal from hydromorphone. I used the hydromorphone to get off of fentanyl which Id been addicted to for 2 years. So I badly tapered of the hydro, and have been self medicating with gabapentin to nullify my withdrawal symptoms (about 2400mg 2x a day is what I've found at this point works best after establishing a tolerance).
Avatar f tn Gabapentin works for some people and not for others. Compression of a nerve or nerve root typically isn’t helped that much by medications unless the compression is relieved first. Medications can help ease pain but not numbness once the compression is relieved.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed gabapentin after surgery, for the nerve pain I was having in my legs. The dosage was gradually increased to 600 mg, three times a day. It really did the trick. The doctor told me i would be on the meds for about 6 mos. Over the last 10 days I have been gradually decreasing the dosage and am now on 1 600mg tablet at night. Has anybody had trouble getting to sleep at night and if yes, what did you do?
Avatar n tn There are two anti-convulsants that are frequently used for nerve pain and they are Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Lyrica (Pregablin). I myself take Gabapentin for nerve pain. You are first person that I have come across that takes a different anti-convulsant from Neurontin or Lyrica for nerve pain. Both neurontin and lyrica have side effects but they may be more tolerable than the side effects from Tegretol. If you go to http://www.drugs.
Avatar f tn Both meds were taken in conjunction with amitriptilyne. Meds for nerve pain are mostly off label uses for drugs. This means they are intended to treat something else. because of this there is no "written" methodology for prescribing them. You can work wioth your doc to find the right dosage and combination to treat your pain. It may take a while, because these drugs need to be titrated, but it can be done.
