or change to tiagabine, as i hear this is absolutely weight neutral and has a similar mode of action. i have been taking 1800 mgs. of gabapentin (600 3xdaily) and wonder what the dose equivalence of tiagabine may be? will tiagabine make me any more tired, anxious, stupified, or what can i expect? please help me with only one more question ...
I am sorry that you apparently are not tolerating the Gabapentin (Neurontin). Sandee has copied and pasted the list of possible side effects for you. Please contact your physician and inform him of how you are feeling. Jamie is correct. It can take time for our systems to adjust to any medication. My mother had similar symptoms the first week she was on Gabapentin. However as Sandee said some ppl just cannot tolerate the medication. Best of luck to you. Please let us know how you are doing.
I'm currently taking that + 300 mg gabapentin/day with not a lot of releif... I take it for TN, though, and that is notoriously resistant. Other experience: Lyrica is MUCH more expensive (even with insurance I pay about $50/month for Lyrica, compared to $5 for generic gabapentin!) Good luck.
to stop trying, and go back to what worked. I am so happy, but the reason I am posting is that I took the gabapentin today, I was in so much pain, and only little oxycodones for breakthrough pain.Today I took my first and second dose, like he wanted, and right this minute, I don't know if it will continue, my sciatic nerve pain has lessened by at least 50%! It is like a miracle. I have had that unending nerve pain since 1995! Since I had my first back surgery!
In clinical trials in diabetic neuropathy and epilepsy, therapy with gabapentin was not associated with an increased frequency of serum aminotransferase elevations or liver toxicity. Rare individual case reports of liver injury from gabapentin have been published, although the causal relationship of gabapentin with the liver injury was not always clear. The latency to onset in these reports was 1 to 8 weeks and associated with cholestatic pattern of enzyme elevations.
Is this a side effect from the medicine or an allergy? It's 1pm and I still have the sunburn rash, the whole right side of my face is red.
hi I have tried neurontin up to 2700mg then broke out in a rash head to toe and my doctor switched me to lyrica and it has worked the best for my severe neuropathy pain. i have gained 20 lbs but I couldnt function if it wasnt for this drug. I am now on 225mg of lyrica twice a day though I find myself uping the dose every 6 months or so due to breakthrough pain it has been a great drug for me.
could no eat sleep or think and was stressed, agitated and exhausted for weeks, now my legs go weak and have falls a lot, balance and co ordination issues. this is one hell of a dangerous drug, the pain clinic gave me no information on the side effects, nor did my GP,it can cause abnormal thinking, suicide, worsening of depression, it used to wean people off ice. This drug crosses the blood brain barrier which accounts for foggy thinking, head wooziness, toxins in the brain.
When we met, I quickly told him the circumstances of my treatment, the drugs and dosage and then proceeded to show him the rash. His sharp intake of breath when he saw my back was all it took to confirm that I was not just 'all in my head' with this. I mentioned that my doctor was not inclined to give me anything more than basically over the counter hydrocortisone, and he agreed that that would not even begin to touch what I was dealing with.
Approx 3-4 days later started to get redness around underside of all fingers and on the palms of both hands. Now have a rash over the redness. There are no bumbs and does not itch. I havenot changed any cleaners, soaps etc. Is this caused from the medication or something else.
The medical costs for all of this was approximately $40,000 for Dr visits, emergency room, and many tests to rule out everything else so the Drs believe he had Shingles and it went into PHN - no rash whatsoever. Once the diagnosis came, they started Gabapentin pills, gradually increased dosage over 1 week until he got relief - Gabapentin 400 mg 3 times a day and his pain was finally managed. It is now one year later, he has tried to reduce the amount, with no luck, the pain comes back.
Please help getting desperate. I have a burning rash on my scrotum and glands. This started while being treated for a fungal and bacterial jock itch. Now after seven months I've been told its red scrotum syndrome. Its hot and burning but doesn't really itch. A biopsy of scrotum shows inflammation but no infection. It looks and feels worse whenever the area gets hot and is easily irritated. I suspect this is caused from the topical medications including steroid creams.
Other treatments include cooling lotions like those containing camphor or menthol, capsacain or local anesthetic creams, amitriptyline and gabapentin tablets and electrical cutaneous nerve field stimulation. Please discuss this possibility and these options of treatment with your dermatologist. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
I went to a neurologist with my MRI in hand, and the neurologist said that the pinched nerve in my neck was not enough to cause the rash and pain I had on my left forearm. He felt it must be Shingles, although he said this was not his field. He said he would make a call and find out the correct medication for this problem and prescribe it if I wanted. I agreed for him to treat it as Shingles. He prescribed the Lidoderm Patch for the pain on my arm to be work 12 hrs., and Acyclovir (200 mg.
Nervous situations can cause a flare up a Neurologist couldn't find anything either and suggested I see a Rheumotologist but I don't have arthritis and never had the fever . I sleep with the AC on all year 'round and can't wear sleeves and anything but cotton. The sores and scares are embarrassing to me. The bumps ooze a clear liquid after a small amount of blood. Anybody out there that can HELP?!!!
The doctor gave me hydrocortisone cream but it has not worked for the symptoms i have been feeling. I have no visible signs of a rash it just burns and feels in flammed everyday. But the strange thing is that the longer I stay naked the symptoms decrease to a feeling close to not feeling any at all. What could this be?
I've seen a GP, and 3 Dermatologists, and an Allergist. I've been scraped, biopsied, and prescribed EVERY usual cream and pill. Ive never had this issue before, and HOPE to God someone out there can help me figure out what this is. The rash is accompanied by an unusual 99.5 lowgrade fever, that has persisted for this entire period. Approx. 2 months ago, my hair began thinning greatly, and this symptom comes and goes from week to week.
I was pleasantly surprised that the rash began to retreat from my thigh and crotch. I then ran out of the cream. Within 2 days, the rash was back in full force. I called her instantly. She couldn't see me for 3 weeks. I went to a "doc-in-the-box". She offered no diagnosis. She merely wrote a 10-day course of doxycycline and Triamcinolone cream - no impact. I called the dermatologist again. She again said it'd be 3 weeks before she could see me. I went to a urologist.
The only place the rash has not traveled to at this poing is my face and my feet. If you look at the pictures and imagine what you see EVERYWHERE excet a few spots here and there (none on my left underside of forearm but on the right - none on my feet) - that is what 80% of my body looks like. i run a low grade fever at night. I have made the decision to stop taking Incivek as of tomorrow.
Everything I read says shingles, but a rash eventually shows up with that and I never get one. My skin feels like a very bad sunburn with no marks. Just my clothes rubbing on it hurts. When these skin pains come, along with it is muscle aches around the area. Right now it is on the right side of my stomach and wraps around to the right side of my back resulting in back pain too. I am very frustrated not knowing what this is or how serious it may be.
Gabapentin 300mg Baclofen 10mg The morning the redness was not there, it could have been anything, like from my bath or heating pad, not sure. I am just keeping an eye on my left mid back to see if any rash appears and then I will fill the script I was given for shingles. Just wanted you input or any info anyone may know of on this, my whole family swears that I have “never” had Chicken-pox before which also has me Very confused.
If your child doesn't like socks and her feet get icy cold it damages the vessels and when the feet warm up again it can be excruciating and itchy. There's not always a rash, it can be anywhere on the feet and it is common on the ends of the toes, which will feel like they are so hot and itchy that they are going to explode. Keep feet moisturised and get a cream from the pharmacy for when the itch is bad.
I have just visited a Neurologist at Johns Hopkins on my Pins and Needles pain caused by an elevated body temperature. There is no rash involved with these pins and needles. He told me he had never heard of such a problem caused by body heat. He told me that he could prescribe a drug that has had some good results with Shingles pain and other neurological pain. The drug is called Gabapentin. It has had an almost instant relief for me.
I have been on gabapentin 1800mg (for neuropathic pain) for 5 years now and Lamictal 150mg (lowered from 300mg originally)..for abt 18 months this I take for mood stabilizing. I have noticed no side effects from either drug alone or combined, except possibly some short term memory problems that may or maynot be related to the lamictal.
Hi, Tammy, I'm no stranger to TN, and it's rearing it's ugly head again, lately. I take a combination of Gabapentin, and Trileptal (a kin to Tegritol). Trileptal makes me dizzy, but if I ramp up very slowly, it becomes tolerable. So, I start with 300 mg each of G and T at bedtime, for three days. Then, I add the same doses in the morning, so that my morning and evening doses are 12 hours apart. I do this for three days, and then add a noon dose if necessary.
I have itching daily around the area of radiation after two years of having none but slight pink areas that never bothered me. What could be the cause? Feels like Poison Oak rash (mild but very itchy) and I use baby diaper lotion to help contain the itching. I see my doctor today. Should we press for a biopsy? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/258482'>radiation after masectomy w/ nodes</a>.
I've tried topical things and they don't help. I've started to get what looks like a rash on my neck and head as well, but could be caused from me scratching and the heat combined. Looks kind of like a heat rash on my neck. Any help or suggestions are greatly welcomed! Thanks!
