4186651 tn?1357830957 Has anyone else taken Gabapentin for all of these pains neuralgia migraines? I'm petrified to take this drug because of all the bad side affects! Did it help or harm anyone? Or should I wait to see the NS first before I take it?
Avatar n tn It will be best that you consult a neurologist and treatment options could be anticonvulsants such as gabapentin, antideprassants and topical lidocaine lotion. Now a day, few recent treatments could be rhizotomy (cutting the affected nerve to relieve pain) and TENS (a electrical pulse therapy). Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I was put on Gabapentin and ibuprofen but was NEVER told this was the assessment. Been in chronic pain for 5 years now, after a hysterectomy. What is the best treatment. Am on 2400mg Gabapentin and 60mg of Cymbalta, but don't really want to have to take this for life.
Avatar f tn Treatment of post herpetic neuralgia are antidepressants, anticonvulsants (such as gabapentin or pregabalin) and topical agents such as lidocaine patches or capsaicin lotion. Opioid analgesics may also be appropriate in many situations. For more information visit http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn Hi, one has to look for the cause of neuralgia. Please describe your symptoms in detail, also how old are you and do you have diabetes? Neuralgia can be effectively treated with medications but cure is not possible. Drugs like gabapentin, amitryptline etc are quite efficacious. For more information visit http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone! I've recently been diagnosed with occipital neuralgia, which isn't exactly common for a 24 year old. When I went to the pain management doctor, I think that he did not quite believe the diagnosis from the neurologist, and informed me that he would give me a "very low dose" of the steroid injection. He also told me that I should try massage therapy instead (I had done this for a few months before, but it did not help).
2047903 tn?1330187549 I am on 900mg/day of Tegretol and 900mg/day of Gabapentin. I just started the Gabapentin a few weeks ago and the side effects are not nice. I have also found out yesterday that my dosage will probably have to be raised as I had the usual pain last night about two hours after taking my evening dose. My neuro has told me that surgery will soon be in my future if the Gabapentin doesn't help.
Avatar m tn t know, she started me on nortriptyline, after being on the nortriptyline for 2 months and no change, she switched me to gabapentin, I am now taking 1200mg 3 times a day. Some days I notice a difference, other days no change at all. My Neurologist said to stay on it and it should be helping. About 3 months ago the same type of pain started on the left side of my neck, about 1.
Avatar m tn I used to drink very heavy 15 years ago but then stopped for a long time and then started doing it sensibly. I then stopped 3 years ago to look after my mum who became ill. I was doing fine until last year when I started getting shooting pains up and down the left side of my head which has now gone inside. I also have nystagmus and tachardiya. My neurologist says I have trigeminal neuralgia but the symptoms don't seem to be improving despite being on Tegretol and Gabapentin.
Avatar n tn Hello Dear, Glossopharyngeal neuralgia is a condition in which there are repeated episodes of severe pain in the tongue, throat, ear, and tonsils, which can last from a few seconds to a few minutes. Symptoms include severe pain in back of the nose and throat, back of the tongue ,ear, throat, tonsil area, larynx The pain occurs in episodes and may be severe. It can sometimes be triggered by:c hewing, coughing, laughing ,speaking, swallowing . The goal of treatment is to control pain.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid. Drug of choice for trigeminal neuralgia is carbamazepine but as the dose may vary according to severity therefore I would advice an oral medicine specialist consultation or at least a physician to confirm this diagnosis and get you treated accordingly. Take care.
Avatar n tn glossopharyngeal neuralgia for about 8yrs mostly controlled, but have now developed glossopharyngeal neuralgia spreading through my torso and if it lasts long enough and severe enough I get TN with it. Used to only occur 1 every few weeks but now increased many daily with long duration hrs if not controlled by extra doses of Gabapentin. Longest I've had it before treated at hospital 2hrs of wavelike spasms lasting 1min to 5min. I became all bent sideways and just able to stand.
Avatar n tn There are two anti-convulsants that are frequently used for nerve pain and they are Neurontin (Gabapentin) and Lyrica (Pregablin). I myself take Gabapentin for nerve pain. You are first person that I have come across that takes a different anti-convulsant from Neurontin or Lyrica for nerve pain. Both neurontin and lyrica have side effects but they may be more tolerable than the side effects from Tegretol. If you go to http://www.drugs.
Avatar m tn There is a chance of a misdiagnosis here if Tegretol is not working. It is the gold standard for treating trigeminal neuralgia. If it is not working, it may possibly be pain of some other cause. The neurologist may be able to help you sort this out.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your info on how Trileptal works for Tregeminal Neuralgia. I would be interested to see how it works with other people as well, in place of Carbamazapine and Gabapentin so I have some ammunition when I see my neurologist. I don't think Gabapentin is doing much if anything for me, I am currently taking 2700 mg per day in addition to Carbamazapine.
Avatar n tn Usually, if I can lay still and/or go to sleep the pain goes away and may not resurface for several days but always comes back. I went to an ear doctor but since it wasn't an actual infection he did not offer much help. Can someone please offer me some advise on what this might be and how I can try and overcome it? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Up to 70% of genital HSV infections are clinically unrecognized. The majority of patients with genital herpes have symptoms and signs unrecognized either by themselves or their clinicians. A recent retrospective study on clinical presentation of the disease reported 51% of cases to be atypical (11) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11385226. Currently, many doctors rely on the typical clinical presentation of the disease.
681148 tn?1437661591 ve noticed for the past week that the sensations and the pain come and go. I rarely take the Oxycodone but still need the Gabapentin on the prescribed basis. I hope this information is of some help to you. Please ask me any relevant questions that you think I may be able to assist you with. I have a follow-up with my doctor Thursday and if I have any information that I think may be of use to you, I will send you a post. Good luck!
Avatar f tn I'm taking gabapentin for TN and occipital neuralgia (I assume is probably lessens the tingling in my arm and leg as well) and most of the time I have reasonable pain control. However, there are times when the pain really flares up and I'm not sure if there's anything I can do for that. I don't know if gabapentin (neurontin) has a "short term" effect--e.g. if I took an extra dose, would it help?
Avatar m tn About a year ago, as a 42-year-old male I suffered from shingles. In the last couple weeks, I've had started having some extremely painful areas on each foot, a finger, an elbow and and leg that inexplicably n the span of a few days with no lingering effects. The foot pain was the worst, the others tolerable. Could this be postherpetic neuralgia?
Avatar f tn What medications are proven to help neuralgia of mouth, and a list of medications that I cannot take because of tardive dyskinesia caused by some medications.
Avatar n tn He diagnosed my situation as glossopharyngeal neuralgia. I was put on gabapentin twice a day and it helped for a while although I had break through pain. The dosage was increased approximately a year later after being sent to a neurosurgeon. Another year went by with the increased medication, then the pain started to worsen and I was put on carbamazepine also. The combination of medication made me feel sick so I opted for the micro vascular decompression surgery to relive the pain.
Avatar f tn This could be caused by trigeminal neuralgia...it eminates from the head. I take "gabapentin" twice daily. Try googling this medication and see if it fits your circumstances. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Symptoms of Trigeminal Neuralgia after dental visit. Sensitive to many of the treatments. Tolerate Gabapentin but makes me very drowsy. I would like to hear about natural elements I can explore. I have also developed multiple allergies to many foods and animals I did not have an issue with previously.
Avatar n tn Hi, trigeminal neuralgia is a disorder affecting the areas of the face where the trigeminal nerve's branches are distributed, including the lips, eyes, nose, scalp, forehead, and upper and lower jaws. Often caused by an artery that compresses the nerve, the condition can bring about stabbing, mind-numbing, electric shock-like pain from just a light wind or a finger's glance of the cheek.
Avatar m tn Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc which you need to evaluate and avoid, , but hardly varies with age. Drug of choice for trigeminal neuralgia is carbamazepine but as the dose may vary according to severity therefore I would advise an oral medicine specialist consultation or at least a physician to confirm this diagnosis and get you treated accordingly. Take care.
Avatar n tn I have been on gabapentin for about three weeks and my back and stomach are broke out in hives or my daughterin law says they look like boils on my back .
Avatar f tn My sister in law is diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia ... she is currently on Pregalin 75 for 6 weeks ???
