Hi Sweetie, I have taken gabapentin for years and I will have to tell you it is a wonderful drug, if it works for you. You might be tired at first but it will quickly fade, take your first dose at bedtime. You might feel a little loopy at first but that will soon pass too. How much has he started you on? I didn't have weight gain with it but some people might. It interrupts the pain signals in the central nervous system.
While it helped the headache some - a lot was left and I ended up on gabapentin after trying 6 other medications. Your shaking; Might be seizure related if your tumor was a brain tumor. I was shaking really bad initially but it went a away when they upped my KEPPRA.
Your body simply converts Vicodin into morphine, chemically there's little difference in most opiates. Strength and time release is the main difference. You're not at an extremely high dose and morphine is fast acting, so it should leave the body pretty fast also. You're 2 days in, hunker down and wait it out. You'll start feeling better in a few days. Vitamins, minerals, and amino acids help a lot. Immodium is good for the stomach issues and exercise helps with the rls.
He started getting really sick and they finaly refilled his Gabapentin, the first couple days he said he felt better than he had in a long time, but all of a sudden he stopped wanting to see me, then he passed out and wouldn't let anyone take him to the doctor, couldn't remeber things like talking to me on the phone and then he got worse and started becoming mean and cruel. I broke up with him.
He was a mechanic, and many other things in his career and has had a devistating attack to his brain by Gabapentin. What I mean is he was a smart guy who was always on top of what ever was going on and now he acts like he has had a labotimy (sp?). I found him petting the coffee pot like it was a dog, saying how well it worked and how it was a mystery to him. Is that normal? I did not have these issues when I took it, I just always felt like it wasn't doing anything for me.
In clinical trials in diabetic neuropathy and epilepsy, therapy with gabapentin was not associated with an increased frequency of serum aminotransferase elevations or liver toxicity. Rare individual case reports of liver injury from gabapentin have been published, although the causal relationship of gabapentin with the liver injury was not always clear. The latency to onset in these reports was 1 to 8 weeks and associated with cholestatic pattern of enzyme elevations.
My doctor has let me go. I suffer from a spine injury. I have been taking gabapentin and lyrica for the pain. someone told me that morphine would be better. i just want to go back to the way things were before Morphine.
in a coma and a week after coming home I was found having a seziure with 104 fever, pneumonia. Since I have been home I have weaned off Oxycodone, Gabapentin, and all other meds for pain except the 60mg Kadian. I have had nausea and vomiting every day since I have been home. We split the Kadian to 30/30mg and I am still sick. I am hoping it is the Kadian that is making me sick. Even though I have taken it for a long time with no side effects I can't think what else it could be.
DEAR TUCK, WENT TO DOCTORS TODAY AND DECUSSED TO HIM ABOUT MY HUSBAND AND I WERE REALLY UPSET ABOUT THE MORPHINE FOUND IN US. WHEREAS ALL WE EVER GOT OUR DRUGS OR MEDS WAS THOUGH HIM. I TOLD HIM ABOUT HOSPITAL IN MACHIAS BUT HE SAID IT WASN'T SENT THEIR. THE URINE TEST WAS SENT TO SECON OF NEW ENGLAND IN WORCESTOR ,MASS. I ASK FOR A COPY OF OUR URINE TEST AND GOT IT. I TOLD HIM WE WANTED ANOTHER TEST BUT HE SAID IT WAS FROM STATE AND THEY WOULDN'T LET US DO IT SO CLOSE TOGETHER.
He's been doing it off and on for 4 years now and I found his syringes last night while we were cleaning the house - he came clean to me about the addiction and flushed all of his stuff. He wants to quit cold turkey but I am so scared about the whole process and don't know what to do. He wants to detox at home, I've googled it a bit and searched the forums but if there is any personal advice or tips that anyone could offer it would be greatly appreciated.
During this time i was prescribed Tramadol to take daily and Morphine when the pain was really bad. Last year i had a hepaticojejuostomy to try and help, it has stopped the infections but not the pain. My pain team then prescribed a huge number of medication - Amitriptaline, gabapentin, metoclopramide, zomorph 100mg BD. I questioned this at the time as i do not have pain ever day, in fact i can be pain free for months at a time and then unwell for months.
I don't have anything to help get through this, but I found some gabapentin and have read from numerous sources can be a godsend for opiate w/d symptoms. Does anyone have any experience using this?
IT morphine 1 mg per day is equivalent to oral morphine 75 mg per day. Most patients require between 1 mg and 4 mg per 24 hours intrathecally to achieve reasonable comfort. This is equivalent to between 75 - 300 mg oral morphine per day. Even with this "Rolls Royce" technique, 100% pain relief is not attainable nor expected. Co-medication with paracetamol, NSAIDs, amitriptyline and gabapentin may still be necessary.
I took it along with oxycodone and other narcotics I was on, but it was all prescribed and I wasn't abusing any of them. Gabapentin is a serious medication and you definitely shouldn't take it unless you're under a doctor's supervision. It was initially used as an anti-seizure medicine. And if you stop it abruptly, it can cause seizures.
Or know what's in it? I was on a couple of versions of extended release morphine, first Avinza, and then Kadian, with moderate impact. My PM doctor suggested that because the system gets used to a drug, its effectiveness can decline over time, thus requiring more of the med to accomplish the same result. He suggested that a change of meds might help, and started me on Opana, which he described as "more potent" than morphine.
I take a morphine drug and I was just prescribed Gabapentin. I had the same problem as others with my "pain specialists". Suspicious-Yes, Rude- No Sorry you are suffering,...
I would suggest not to detox off the xanax and restoril at the same time as the pain pills. Your dose of morphine (oral) and oxy aren't that high and you could cut 15% of the dose every other day . The detox from the benzos (temazapan-restoril and xanax-aprolazam) can be much more difficult and needs medical supervision.
In the past two weeks, I have gone on a crisis protocol diet of enzymes and amino acids, but have also cut down my dose of gabapentin to 1800 mg per day and I am waking up 1.5 hours earlier than usual, but feel less forgetful. Any suggestions?
He tells me I have an addictive personality and doesn't want to put me on anything other than gabapentin and flexeril. There are days that I want it to be OVER with. How can a doctor refuse you pain medication when you are in dire pain? I do over-medicate, I will take my gabapentin, flexeril and xanax in one dose to just go to sleep for a couple of hours. I have to admit 5 years ago I was smoking pot and I am really tempted again to just go "numb". What do you suggest?

Doc said MRI says MS, referral made and morphine, gabapentin and ibuprofen given.
My PM said she had never heard of anyone having the other symptoms I was having, like teeth grinding and clenching, on morphine, and that's all gone now, too. She also mentioned that I could still be adjusting to the higher dosage of MS. Thanks everyone for your concern and support. This forum is the best. And I wish no one else would suffer coming off of Effexor like I did. Who knew. I was careful and tapered off as directed and still had problems.
Trying to taper off and get off opiates, morphine and oxy. can clonidine be taken at the same time to help with not having as much of the opiates? and help with the withdrawls?

My husband takes Morphine Sulfer 15 mg and Gabapentin 300 mg, he has taken them close to a year, now he is have a problem keeping an erection. If needed could he take something for erectile disfunction, a perscription or something natural. His Doctor said not to worry about it (it is a she) I thought if we found some info maybe we could get her to pay attention. I know for a man this is a problem, and I want to help if I can.
If the pain persists then you may need other pain killers like those containing morphine. Anticonvulsant and antidepressant drugs are also useful and you can get gabapentin prescribed. Hope that this information helps and hope that you will get better soon. Wishing you good health.

Spoke with her recently and she is still having the same symptoms -- taking morphine 2x/day and Lortab for the breakthrough pain with minimal relief. The major muscle goup on the front of your thigh is called the quadriceps (actually made up of 4 different muscles) -- the main mover (rectoris femoris) is actually a knee straightener and a hip bender. At its shortest point, the hip is bent with the knee straight.
Amitriptyline, bupivacaine, clonidine, gabapentin, hydromorphone, levobupivacaine, lignocaine, methadone, mexiletine, morphine, oxycodone and tramadol have been used in the presence of renal failure, but do require specific precautions, usually dose reduction. Aspirin, dextropropoxyphene, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and pethidine, should not be used in the presence of chronic renal failure due to the risk of significant toxicity.
E and was addmitted for Intravenous morphine and that was new years eve. Unfortunately removing my eye wont isn't an option and likely would make it worse. I'm extremely luckly to live in the UK and in my experience the NHS is second to none, if i was in the USA I dread to think how things would be as I'm unable to work and medical treatment in the USA is extremely expensive if y our not insured, especially sustained release strong painkillers.
