Gabapentin and kidney function

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin and kidney function

neurontin

I've quit and resumed it several times, and my body handles it fine now - I will add that to get a reasonable amount of pain relief I needed to go to 600mg/day, and after a lot of fooling around found that 300mg in the morning is essential, followed by 300mg later in the day. If you are youngish and have excellent kidney function these drugs can clear the body pretty quickly; there is a wide variation in the normal population.
I will keep taking the gabapentin, and give it time to work... and up it slowly.
) The problem is while Mandelamine, and the BP and Heart meds and Gabapentin are covered, the Vesicare is NOT COVERED and it is approx. $179.00 for 3 month supply. WHICH OF COURSE ON A FIXED DISABILITY INCOME, I CAN NOT AFFORD! Without these med, my timing will continue to decrease and I will back in the vicious cycle of having the stents every 6 weeks or so again. Why would that medicine NOT be covered?
I have just started having pain...and until the blood test I had for my MRI 2 weeks ago I never thought twice about my kidneys or liver. I am also a caffine addict with diet coke and cofffee. I am just trying to drink water now. I think just the combo of all them did it. I will see how it goes for the next couple weeks.

these may include kidney disease, too little water intake, and loss of water due to diarrhea and/or vomiting. •A decreased concentration of sodium (hyponatremia) occurs whenever there is a relative increase in the amount of body water relative to sodium. This happens with some diseases of the liver and kidney, in patients with congestive heart failure, in burn victims, and in numerous other conditions.
Kidney function needs to be re-assessed as you had a problem in recent past. Polycythemia vera can also affect your kidney function. You also need to get liver function tests done and get a complete blood picture for anemia. Low sodium in blood, hypothyroidism and malabsorption syndromes causing low protein in blood have to be looked into. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Nuerologist prescribed brain MRI, CT Scan of pelvic girdle and spine, EMG nevre function, etc and ruled out MS, tumors, and spinal stinosous . EMG confirmed deterioated function of nerve specific to that foot. Nuerologist could not offer a probable cause or disease. GP could not offer probable cause or disease. Lack of sensation has started to restricted her mobility. I don't even know where to begin looking or who to ask at this point. Thanks very much.
I have been taking norco throughout my pregnancy because I felt like taking just my breakthrough meds was better then taking it with Morphine, and also better then taking nothing and being unable to function as a human being. My dr was not in agreeance, she throught I should stay on the morphine because of withdrawals but I convinced her that if they got to any point where I was uncomfortable I would take it but I was unable to persevere and just take my norco.
Udkas, I will pray that you find relief very soon. Little has given me so much distress as the whole kidney-and-bladder-and-the-plumbing-between system. Fortunately, since my 1986 surgical experience, I've only had one serious stone problem. The 1986 episode began in 1983, though. Sometime when I'm alert and have time, I'll write up the gory details of that for everyone's amusement. It's a doozy. Peace and blessings to all.
Opioid-induced hyperalgesia is a condition where the increased use of opiates, like Oxycontin and hydrocodone, heightens one's sensitivity to discomfort and reduces their tolerance for pain. Essentially, people will increase the amount of painkillers they are taking as their discomfort continues to escalate, but the added medication can actually make their pain worse.
Do not take Lyrica if you have had kidney problems, or have had heart problem including heart failure. My CREAT was 1.31 and BUN 36 when she ordered it and she knew it. Currently I take 15 mg Morphine every 6 hrs. and 5mg oxycodone as needed for breakthrough . It's not doing the trick anymore. I need a raise. This prescription is a year plus old.. Thanks in advance for any replies in this issue....
I've tried just about everything you could possibly think of (including homeopathic and alternative medicine theparpies) and I can't function with this level of pain. That is why I am considering the Ultram; for pain control and nothing to do with losing weight. Is it worth it?
also could this drug alter my brain function since I know it is used for bi-polar and seizure disorder... I'd like to know more about this med both from a neurologists view and from a weight loss specialists view.
I also do not have depression or suffer from anxiety as that has all been ruled out. The only prescribed meds I take are Gabapentin, for the nerve pain and Detrol, for my over active bladder. They first suspected I had MS or a problem with my upper motor neurons misfiring. It may end up that I will develop MS but they won't prescribe anything to halt the progression of my symptoms until I receive a diagnosis.
One doctor told me I haveBack Pain with Sciatica, Hematuria and he went on im his notes I have MS and the MS is called Arthralgia and Muscle problem. Now another told me that Diagnostic were that he note Facet Arthrosis in the lower spine -L4-L5 and L5-SI and mild facet hypertrophy. But no significant disc bulge or protrusion is seen at any level. Disc space are well maintained. Now after my baby was born 2 month she came down with Baterial Meningitis after I stop breastfeeding expain that to me.

As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.
Mix that with an Opiate use (Oxycodone, Codine, Vicodin, Oxycontin, Percocet) which stimulates the Liver and paralyzes it's function of producing sugar, resulting in severe hypoglycemia, all available by prescription in which our doctors today give out so often, and kiss controlling BG levels at all.. You may find yourself in a severe hypoglycemic, unconscious state with completely relaxed muscles, knocking on deaths' door, as I have, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MARIJUANA!!!!!!
Neurontin (gabapentin), usually prescribed for seizures and nerve pain helps my painless tingling as well as my anxiety. The only problem is it's half short life, which is only about six hours, so you have to take it three times a day, usually. I take a 100 mg. capsule and within an hour, my tingling is gone. I'd advise anyone with tingling due to anxiety to give it a try as it has a very benign side effect profile.

They finally gave me a very small dose of ativan and sent me home!! After much research, I learned that opiates and antidepressants and somas and gabapentin (which I was shoving in my mouth at a non-prescribed, alarming rate prior to this) cause suppression of our respiratory function. Imagine that???? LOL I am off ALL my Rx's now and still struggling, but no more breathing crisis! Besides your breathing episodes, I also related to your sinus and bronchial issues.
First off, it bothers me when people say "abusing pills". Sorry, but you can not abuse an inanimate object. I also hate it when people confuse physical dependence with addiction. They are different in my book. Anyway, I am having a problem with my back hurting in my kidney area.
What I want to know is if there is anyone out there on Lyrica that is having a urinary/kidney problem? My lower back have really hurt now for a few days and nothing is helping. It hurts to walk. I try to drink a lot of water daily as I don't drink soda. It has been increasingly difficult to urinate. The urge is there but I have to push on the bladder to achieve any results - sounds fun-huh? Somewhere I read that Lyrica does this to some people.
Nothing helps relieve it and tried to enroll in a clinical trial, but couldn't because of Chronic Kidney Disease and arthritis pain. Any suggestions for relief would be greatly appreciated. Presently am taking 600 mg of Gabapentin. Thanks in advance.
I have talked to the neurosurgeon who did the surgery and he shrugged his shoulders and said I have no idea and sent me back to my neurologist. He gave me a series of injections in both shoulders and the pain stopped for a couple days but then came right back. Then we tried message therapy, it helps but only for a short period. And I have tried changing my pillows on my bed and sleeping in different positions and nothing seems to help for long term. What can I do?
I've been fighting the desire to call the dr for about a month now, but it has become excruciating and it is 24/7 and I am to the point that I cannot function. I've even considered the ER during the night, as it is completely unbearable. OTC meds do not touch it! I had carpal tunnel surgery on the other wrist about 15 years ago, so maybe that's what it is on the other arm. I will try the wrist brace tonight on the left side.
x-rays, ct scans, abdominal and renal ultrasound, MRI's, ekg, emg, evok potential, nerve conduction study, liver function, colonoscopy, endoscopy, upper/lower gi, barium enema, thyroid, sugar, lyme disease, numerous blood tests, and so many other tests that I can't remember them all and I forgot to write them down, but they checked every organ, my muscles, nerves, bones, blood, skin and they did exploratory surgery, kidney surgery and two Epidural Steroid Injections which didn't help with th
