Gabapentin and drowsiness

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin and drowsiness

neurontin

Avatar m tn sciatic nerve damage. The Gabapentin works great, aside from the fact that I get brain fog and drowsiness. This drug separates me from pain, however, makes me a zombie! Does anyone know of a drug or supplement that I can take with the Gabapentin to combat the somnolence?
Avatar f tn I have recently been prescribed to Robaxin, Vicodin and Gabapentin for back pain/sciatica. Anyone have experience with these meds?
5657776 tn?1371799886 It is now almost 3am so I took 20 mg of cyclobenzaprine and the am dose of gabapentin. Is this safe? Like I said I am new to these meds and want to make sure I am not overdoing it.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your info on how Trileptal works for Tregeminal Neuralgia. I would be interested to see how it works with other people as well, in place of Carbamazapine and Gabapentin so I have some ammunition when I see my neurologist. I don't think Gabapentin is doing much if anything for me, I am currently taking 2700 mg per day in addition to Carbamazapine.
Avatar n tn Gabapentin and Lyrica are in the same class of anti-convulsants and have similar actions. However their side-effect profiles may differ somewhat. If you are finding that the side-effects with gabapentin are tolerable then it would probably be best to increase the dose under doctor's advice. There is a long way upwards that you may go with the dose before reaching the upper limit, as Jason80 points out.
Avatar m tn "It is not a narcotic, therefore much easier to taper down your dose." I respectfully disagree. Gabapentin can be downright dangerous to come off if not done right, and in THIS case, we're talking very high doses. OP, I agree completely with vicki that you need to seek medical attention for this, and soon. You are risking very a serious health crisis taking the much Neurontin. PLEASE read the info below.
Avatar f tn it is true that you need to taper off under the supervision of a doctor valium will make you feel severe drowsiness be careful and the gabapentin takes time to work google the pills you want to take before and find out about interactions ok :)
Avatar m tn Other drugs like gabapentin, pregabalin, amitryptline, carbamazepine are also effective and are relatively safe as compared to nortryptline. For more information visit http://www.drugs.com/nortriptyline.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nortriptyline http://www.patient.co.
Avatar f tn I take gabapentin.. I had uped the dosage to 2400mg a day... and found my Vertigo started up daily and I had to lower my dose to 1800mg..which so far has helped abit with the Vertigo but I seem to have pain in the evening...deep muscle pain in my thigh area. I will be seeing my neuro in two weeks for a follow up and will tell him that I can't seem to take to high of a dose of gabapentin as it starts my Vertigo which is horrible.
9704730 tn?1405741284 I have been taking about 900 mg a day since September. It gives me a lot of side effects such as drowsiness and the inability to think quickly. I wanted to know if it is possible that I am still in withdrawal from the tramadol or if it's the neurontin. If it's the neurontin how can that be managed without a taper as I return to work next week and cannot function properly while taking the neurontin.
Avatar f tn I have been having drowsiness since past 4 months, sometimes with and without nausea. I have got my MRI of the brain, certain blood tests which were normal. one of the doctors diagnosed is as muscle spasm but i am so confused whats going on. please help me! Thanks!
Avatar f tn I had a trial of amitriptyline 10mg daily to treat the symptoms, but had side effects (weakness and drowsiness affecting my ability to work) even when quartering the tablet (2.5mg). Are there any other treatments my doctor can prescribe to treat this disorder?
Avatar m tn Most common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, and swelling of extremities. On the other hand, amitriptyline or Elavil, is a tricyclic antidepressant. It is officially approved as a preventive medication for patients with frequent migraines and chronic fatigue syndrome. Common side effects is due to its anticholinergic activity such as weight gain, dry mouth, changes in appetite, drowsiness, nausea, constipation, insomnia and changes in sexual function.
293157 tn?1285873439 Hi Sweetie, I have taken gabapentin for years and I will have to tell you it is a wonderful drug, if it works for you. You might be tired at first but it will quickly fade, take your first dose at bedtime. You might feel a little loopy at first but that will soon pass too. How much has he started you on? I didn't have weight gain with it but some people might. It interrupts the pain signals in the central nervous system.
382218 tn?1341181487 Hey there Girl, I got this off of MedlinePlus and thought it would help you. I take gabapentin and never noticed a headache with it but it could be a side effect for you. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Despite being very happy with the medication overall, I continue to suffer from drowsiness and the need to sleep more - up to 12 hours a day compared to my normal 7 hours a day before I used to take cipralex. I am sure this is directly due to cipralex even though the side effect is not listed as a common side effect of taking cipralex.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue, and the aches and pains(especially legs from my thighs to my ankels) are leading the doctor to think fibromyalgia. I was just wondering about these meds because I NEED some relief and I've heard many mentions of these meds. Can they be taken with provigil?
Avatar f tn Gabapentin (Neurontin) can cause fatigue, somnolence and dizziness. As Remar said Gabapentin is generally cleared by the renal system and rarely - if at all effects the liver. Vicodin (Hydrocodone) an opiate - can also cause some "sluggish" and sleepy-like symptoms, especially as it's effects begin to wear off.
Avatar f tn in legs-he says numb but he just cannot move his foot/leg even after telling it to move; excessive sleepiness and drowsiness; and of course the continual excruciating pain). As the patients wife I am terrified and I don't know what to do. We are on Medicaid and the insurance wants us to drive clear across the state for treatment. If he needs more than one appointment a month there is no way we can continually drive that!
Avatar f tn Also my doctor prescribed a medication called Provigil to help counteract the drowsiness caused by my medications because I do take several and all of them may cause drowsiness. Perhaps you can research Provigil and see if that may be an option for you, I know it has helped me tremendously. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I will stick on the last half mg for a couple of weeks, and see how things develop. I know that fatigue and drowsiness is not listed as a side effect of zocor, but there is a lot of stuff on the net suggesting the side effects of statins are far more extensive than we realise. Anyway, I have been off of it for five days now, with no change to the fatigue. Will probably risk staying off for a couple of weeks, and then go back on. Thanks for your comments.
Avatar f tn I started Gabapentin after being taken off Topamax because I was experiencing every known side effect. I was placed on the Gabapentin because of the pins and needles in my hands and feet as well as to help control my horrible migraines I was experiencing. I have not had any side effects thus far. I am on 300 mg 3x a day. I take one in the morning and 2 at night. I find it helps me sleep better this way as well. I do notice if I do not take them at the same time each day I am out of whack.
1573548 tn?1330456863 I am so glad you got a new doctor. I had the same issue. I had a good doctor but then he transferred to another area and I was assigned a new doctor. I stuck with her even though I felt like she didn't take me or my pain seriously. He talked to me like I was a child. She also took away any paid meds I had to "change to something better" but I realized later she was only getting me off of all the pain meds. I ended up with nothing but 800 mg ibuprofen and otc drugs.
Avatar m tn 2 weeks after my last unprotected encounter, i have been experiencing drowsiness, and between 7pm and 8PM i start to get really sleepy which is not my usual. It's 4PM and the whole day today i feel like i wanted to lie down and sleep. i remember going to sleep last night at 8pm and waking up at 4am today. I think that is enough sleep, yet it feels like i wanted more.
