Gabapentin and cognition

Common Questions and Answers about Gabapentin and cognition

neurontin

I believe this is helping for my nerve pain in my legs and right arm...just not enough. I try to keep all of my meds on auto refill. But periodically the Lyrica doesn't go through and I find myself running out of it for a few days. Grrr. This happened on Thursday. The pharmacy was waiting for dr. authorization and it didn't happen until today. So, I didn't have any Lyrica from Thurs. morning until this morning. Saturday through today has been pretty rough.
I spoke with the MS Specialist and she doesn't think 100mg of Gabapentin should give me this reaction.... so it could be me. She also informed me I have PPMS, she was being professional and told me about it being progressive but that it could level off for sometime and not alway just keep getting worse. She wants me to keep my Appt with the other Dr at the MS Clinic who will deal with my Physio and Medications... and she wants me to discuss my symptoms or side effects with him next week.
Well. Skin sensitivity now up and constant on certain parts of body. whatever. Prescribed gabapentin on tuesday. Anyway, first thing today, I find out my doctor made "an error" and the date she wrote in the form was the date she filled it out rather than the date I had initially been instructed to be off work. In doing so, and my being stupid and not having caught "the error", I now have a black mark on my file for a loan I have insurance for.
Also, gabapentin works off label to slow you down and in the process probably have less stress with contributes to headaches and migraines. You should sleep better as well. So if you have headaches and demyelinating disease it may help.
So I posted a while back about my vertigo/dizziness, slow cognition, trouble finding words... and I just wanted to post what is going on with my symptoms now and see what feedback you all could give me. For the past 2 days I have had this pain in my neck/base of head. My neck feels somewhat strained and it feels like a headache in the base of my head. There is also just pain where my neck and head connect... hard to describe, but its not constant.
- can a neurogenic bladder really be rretrained to behave or am I wasting time and $$ doing the physical therapy? -how can I tell the difference between fatigue and depression if I can't get out of my chair and doing things? I only have 30 minutes with him so I have to get my questions organized in advance. And that 30 minutes doesn't include his neuro exam and his questions of me!!!! Do you have your list started for Aug. 6?
I'm taking 1800 mg gabapentin/ day and that does help with the pain (and the TN pain, too). If I try to cut the dosage back, the headache is right there. Steroids have done nothing for the headache. I received the MRI report and it states that the cerebellar tonsils are low lying without meeting the criteria for chiari malformation. Is it possible to have symptoms without herniation being obvious on the MRI?
Carol, I do take ampyra and find it makes a difference with my walking stamina, There is anecdotal evidence that it also helps with ON, cognition and heat sensitivity. The down side of it that Ess mentions is it is not particularly good for people who experience neuropathic pain. The drug does such a good job of completing the eroded nerves signals that it allows the pain to also be increased. I hope that maes sense.
We're all very happy that you have chosen to be here with us! Please make yourself comfy, kick off your shoes and snuggle down. It's going to be a bumpy ride, but the end result is so worth it!
sporadic burning/tingling/numbness in arms and legs tremor in hands which is exacerbated with writing/typing pain in low back which goes down to popliteal fold area/ knees neck pain - associated with years of poor posture and cracking left and right Onset of symptoms started with heaviness in forearms and slight tremor bilaterally in ring fingers after working out about a month ago (was performing tricep pushdowns) Have always been heavy lifter and had weak wrists.
X10! I can also relate to the cognition problems, pain, and other symptoms seeming to be much worse when feeling like this Even sleep, when I do sleep, does no good. I wake up and barely able to get out of bed. And as far as your husband is concerned when he says "I have that too", well everytime I complain or comment on a cognition problem, my fiancee says "I do that too" LOLOL She says it's just a product of old age, it.
I also have the vibrations (mainly on one side) and they are always there and a daily reminder of when my next dose of Gabapentin is due. I am now on 1200 mg a day which seems to have helped things. I am guessing they are here to stay and the Beach Boy song comes to mind "Good, good, good, good vibrations". They obviously had something different in mind!
Morning Lovelies, Welcome to part 34! Please come on in and make yourself at home. It can be done!
Hi Tramadol Warriors, Welcome to Part 12! We're so happy to see you! Come on in and get comfy.
Hi Friends, Welcome! Please make yourself at home ... snuggle down by the fire and hang on. It's a bumpy ride.
You're in the right place if you want off the Tramadol! You can do it! I believe in you!
I forgot to say something, I am on 2100 mg. gabapentin, and Zoplicaone to sleep, and muscles relaxants (flexeril) for the spasms., but, I think that is all. They say they won't give me any of the shots because I'm to old. I am 52 now, and am recovering from a 9cm tumor that was removed from my right ovary 4 months ago. They took verything at that time. I'm wondering if this could also be menopause thrown into this mess as well. Think I need to see the Dr.
Please make yourself at home and snuggle down. It will be a bit bumpy, but worth it!
Understanding is essential! You can do this. And yes. Eventually you will heal!
I know it's hard to forget, but it's almost over, and these next few days are going to feel like millennia, but they'll be over, and then look at how strong you were, normal people couldn't make it through this, only us, the secret bad *** society. Turn the radio louder, and scream, and cry. This will end, and you will feel better!
When I lost my ability to speak normal last August, I ended up at a local hospital where the neuro there claimed that I had a mental disorder and should see a psychiatrist.Humiliated and disdained. He did a 5 minute in office test and said that there was nothing wrong with me even though the doc on call that I saw at first said that I had weakness in my legs, my right hand and had notable dysatharia as well as extreme left leg tremors.
Unfortunately, that did not last. I started having the same signs again, and when I tested it was positive again. And ever since I can't get it to be negative again, meaning the candida if that is what I have has become resistant to the supplements that I was using. As I started a new treatment, I will take the test this week-end to see if there is any progress.
