chantix

407029 tn?1253992623 I took Chantix 2 months before I finished my first round of treatment. I was smoke free within 3 weeks of starting the Chantix and on March 4, 2008 I will be smoke free for an entire year! They recommend that you use the Chantix for 3 to 6 months. I did so well with it that I was off it in less than 3 months. When you start forgetting to take it you know it's time to come off it. If I could, I we be a walking advertisement for Chantix.
Avatar m tn I recently made it to one year smoking free thanks to chantix. But during that time and even moreso in recent weeks/months I seem to be getting aggressive, argumentative and short tempered. I wonder if this could be because the chantix is no longer stimulating my brains receptors to release dopamine? Or could this be because the addiction is returning and undermining my determination. Either way, I've made an appt.
Avatar f tn ve been smoke free for over a year without it. I know a lot of peole get side effects from chantix but not much for me. I took it steadily for about 9 month and stopped about 5-6 weeks ago. I started having cravings again and broke down and paid for a re fill. That first pill worked fast and really helped with any cravings. I will take it as needed for however long and try to always have some on hand.
Avatar n tn I have stopped taking them 9 days ago and am now smoke-free 14 days. The thoughts of having to turn to Chantix again to a barrier that encourages me to keep strong and fight any cravings. However now I don't think about it much and at 31 I feel this is the right time to conquer this addiction as I have a thyroid disorder and coupled with smoking my energy was non existent.
Avatar n tn I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different. Are you still taking Chantix? I am assuming not. ALso, I feel compelled to mention that I too had the symptoms you had, except for the trouble breathing, and my vitamin D level was extremely deficient. You may want to get that checked. Wishing you the best.
Avatar f tn Congrats to both. I too am smoke free, about 12 weeks now. Its been a really rough road, I wasnt one of the lucky ones. Hubby was. Off the board I've heard a lot of complaints about people not being able to take the side effects of taking the drug. Nothing about withdrawl from the drug.
1755816 tn?1317861184 I am currently on Norco 500 mg. 3 xs daily and prozac, and chantix to stop smoking. im sure they will let me know in 5 days when I start treatment. also r there certain foods or liquids that r good/bad for u while treating.
Avatar f tn Have you tried Chantix? If you have ins go to your doctor and ask him for chantix. It's a rx designed to block the nicotine receptors. You smoke while taking the med the first week and then you stop smoking, but continue the medicine. After the first week you will notice the cravings are mental but not so much physical. You can google "chantix" and you can learn more about it. I am 30 and have smoking since 12, it's the hardest habit to break.
984138 tn?1359813073 DON"T DO CHANTIX. My son, 19, took chantix for 3 months and the research was not done on young people. He did quit smoking but at a great risk to his health. It has been 10 months of hell since he went off the med. While on the med he has mild side effects but after many blood tests, a positive ANA and anxiety/panic attacks - he is slowly getting healthy again. We did not do our homework and the result was a very sick young man.
Avatar f tn I am ready to quit, and noticed you said you took Chantix. would you recommend this pill? How long after being on Chantix did you actually stop smoking? I was prescribed bupropian, and wonder if maybe Chantix would be better.
Avatar f tn I will tell myself if i clean the kitchen then i can have a smoke, or if i got to get up and make dinner then i can reward myself with a smoke. my DR, is putting me on chantix does it work or am i waisting my money?
228936 tn?1249094248 I started almost a year ago and chantix which made it easier. Now I don't have the same Rx plan and haven't been taking it and really notice the craving. When I see people buy ciggs or smoke I miss it. I'm not that close to caving in and smoking just dissapointed to still miss it.
444932 tn?1273980797 I am now on day number 8 of taking Chantix - still smoking but have cut back. Yesterday, I started the 1 mg twice per day dose and within an hour of my a.m. dose, started itching like crazy. Benedryl gives some relief. It continued throughout the night and this morning. I do not have hives, difficulty breathing or anything like that - just itching that is driving me crazy. Anyone else had this problem with chantix?
Avatar m tn just curious....how long have you been taking Chantix, and can you stop taking Chantix without the need to have either a cigarette or a Chantix 'fix'??
Avatar m tn First thing...stop the Chantix. Yes, in many people even those with no history of major depression Chantix is proven to have the potential to cause depression. There are better ways to stop smoking than to alter your brain chemistry.
950277 tn?1247274551 My mother in law went on the chantix program. She was a smoker of over 50 years. She has been on Chantix for 3months. She actually lights her smoke but does not smoke it. She does this twice daily. She really has quit. It is amazing!
1230229 tn?1447215761 dose any no if your having treatment for hep c can you have the tablets to stop smoking to?
Avatar m tn Ok well it may be the Chantix... but I dont know... most symptoms I know of with Chantix are stomach related. Just in case I would try stopping... if you still get you know thats not it... However, i actually think you may have a sinus infection... Very common when you first quit. Usually appears as though you get a cold or something within the first 3 weeks... it's actually like all the crap is coming up from your system.
1096641 tn?1271707225 I used Chantix and didn't have any complications. I have never heard of headaches related to Chantix and I just googled "chantix and headaches" which brought up several articles but there was nothing that links the two (mentions of Chantix and headache on the same page). Just wondering Terry where you heard/read it? My husband suffered from cluster headaches and they were nothing like the ones you describe. His were so intense and lasted sometimes for hours.
Avatar f tn Today I have 1 year of not smoking cigarettes. Woot whew! I used all the stuff to quit including zyban, patches, chantix and nicotine gum, in that order. I’m chewing 3-6 pieces of 4 mg nicotine gum per day. I told myself that after 1 year of being smoke free, I would deal with my gum addiction. The plan of course is to wean myself off of the gum. I thought I would start by cutting the 4 mg in half and see if that works, the problem is I love the gum….
Avatar m tn I too quit with Chantix and my side effects were minimal......bad dreams and a little stomach upset, but it was a small price to pay for getting back my life, which, after smoking for 40 years I never thought would or could happen : ) In addition to Chantix, I also found whyquit.com, which supports a "cold turkey" quit....everyone has access to the articles regardless of the method you choose to aid in your quit.
