Fosamax heart disease

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax heart disease

fosamax

Avatar n tn Many women with RA, especially those who have taken prednisone, could be prone to osteopenia or osteoporosis. Also, our inability to do lots of weight-bearing exercise can contribute. I was lucky that I had a female rheumie many years ago who thought to order a bone density test that caught it early. Fosamax has brought my bone density back within normal limits, and I continue to take it to maintain.
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.

Avatar f tn If you have cancer risks in your family, your risk is obviously elevated. If you have a family history of heart disease, your risk for stroke is also elevated, and therefore your need to adjust for those risks accordingly. If you do not have additional risk concerns, I would say that you might want to seriously consider what might happen if you don't take the medications. In this case, does the risk out weigh the benefit or is it the other way around?
Avatar f tn I stopped taking Fosamax before the extraction (I had taken it for less than 4 years) and am not going to take the drug again. Is there concern that I will have a complication because of the Fosamax? I had hoped for a bone graft and/or socket perservation...
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar n tn Assuming loose teeth refering to increased tooth mobility, which is associated with periodontal disease, occlusal trauma, or bone pathology. Fosamax is not likely to cause tooth mobility.
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.

Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know any adverse effect with Fosamax, a medication for treating osteoporois or brittle bones? My regular doc (who knows I have HCV) prescribed it to me. I know that the liver processes all drugs and reading the side effects is scaring me. I have stage 2 fibrosis and failed the traditional interferon/ribavirin treatment already.
Avatar n tn She had hers removed at 50 before she was finished with menopause and regrest the loss. Since heart disease is a major cause of death in women, the heart palpitations could be a major problem. There is no medical evidence of the link between heart palpitations , absence of estrogen and death from heart disease but that does not mean there is no link. That may come out later. She also says that the body produces more fat in women who don't have estrogen in order to create estrogen from fat.

Avatar f tn DEXA scan showed increased bone density loss to that of a DEXA scan done before bc (ordered by gastro due to 30+ yrs of steroids). BC surgeon prescribed Fosamax and Calcichew/Vit.D3. A bone scan showed osteo arthritis in both hips, hands and feet. No meds prescribed. I am on weekly injections of 12.5 mg methotrexate for Crohn's. My GP suggested I stop the Arimidex for 3-4 weeks to see if the pain diminished, which miraculously it has.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.

Avatar f tn Well depression and pain go together as well as anxiety. I have myofascial pain as well and osteophytes. I'm sorry about the fractures. Can you take fosamax? I'm glad the epidural block helped so much. PT just damaged me more. Accuputure didn't help much. I understand you wanting to help yourself . I can't get dressed on my own yet and have no pain meds. I was on many things and really bad reaction to them . I have to ask my husband for help all the time and he is tired.
Avatar m tn If you have osteoporosis, I think it is best to take the medication prescribed by your doctor. Supplements and herbal remedies are not approved by the FDA. I have not seen any studies to indicate that this is an effective alternative. While this may be beneficial, I would think the treatment plan would be the one your doctor prescribes.
